Kniha zahrnuje texty, které vznikaly v šedesátých a devadesátých letech minulého století. Jádro svazku tvoří úvahy, projevy, polemiky a rozhovory úzce či volněji související s událostmi československého roku 1968. Jejich vůdčím motivem je vědomí novodobé krize základního vztahu ke skutečnosti: analýza příčin a projevů této krize, stejně jako východisek z ní. Kosík v nich uvažuje například o vztahu morálky a politiky, individua a „velkých“ dějin, socialismu a demokracie, ale zamýšlí se také nad smyslem politiky, nad samotnou ideou a realitou socialismu nebo nad funkcí vědy a techniky v moderních společnostech. Mimoto přemítá o osudu malých národů a ideji střední Evropy. Své úvahy rámuje reflexemi politického dění v Československu šedesátých let, jehož byl v roce 1968 nejen pozorovatelem, nýbrž zároveň aktivním účastníkem. Yet few studies discuss the notion of inclusion and what it entails in intergovernmental negotiations. This book delves into the UN’s relationship with CSOs, exploring who participates in negotiations and how their input is integrated into ratified documents. Drawing on ethnographic research, the author uncovers the complexities of accreditation, participation, and the interpretation of CSOs’ contributions. Offering a sociological analysis, she highlights the increased exclusion of CSOs despite their apparent inclusion in institutions of global governance unbounded to public accountability. Leah R. Kimber examines the practices of exclusion CSOs are subjected to in UN negotiations by opening the machinery of intergovernmental negotiations in light of the UN’s future and legitimacy.

Kniha Toulky podkrkonošskou minulostí 2 navazuje na naším nakladatelstvím vydaný regionální bestseller Toulky podkrkonošskou minulostí, kterou napsal František Jirásko. Ten se ale zabýval pouze bývalým politickým okresem Vrchlabí a zdaleka tak nepostihl celé Podkrkonoší.
Kolektiv autorů, historiků, publicistů (Jan Tomíček, Oldřiška Tomíčková, Radek Drahný, Věra Kociánová) si předsevzal zpracovat zbývající část Podkrkonoší a několik let pracoval s cílem pozvednout podhorský region ze stínu Krkonoš a nabídnout milovníkům krásné krajiny, cenné přírody, historických památek a kulturních zajímavostí pozvánku k putování kouzelným Podkrkonoším. Druhý díl knihy, který místním patriotům a milovníkům Podkrkonoší předloží malou historickou vlastivědu tohoto regionu.

Vinou toho, jak je nastaven systém voleb politického vedení, stávají se demokracie stále častěji vládou neznalých a iracionálně rozhodujících politiků, a příliš často selhávají. Podíl na politické moci většině voličů přináší jen málo užitku.
Celá řada sociálněvědních výzkumů ukazuje, že možnost politické účasti paradoxně činí nezanedbatelnou část voličů iracionálnější a zaujatější. Vzhledem k tomuto chmurnému zjištění Brennan tvrdí, že nový systém vlády, který nazývá epistokracie neboli vláda znalých, může být lepším systémem než demokracie a že je možná na čase začít s tímto nápadem experimentovat.

In his short life, Liverpool-born Alexander Foote went from being a volunteer in the International Brigade in Spain to becoming an agent of Soviet military intelligence in Switzerland. Pretending to his friends that he was a dim-witted Englishman with private means, Foote became the key telegraphist of the so-called ‘Red Three’ network of radio stations, communicating top secret German intelligence to the USSR from under the noses of the Swiss authorities. The information from Foote’s Morse key originated from sources in Germany and came to Foote via the enigmatic figure of Rudolph Rossler, known as Agent Lucy. Where he obtained the information from is a mystery that has never been solved. During the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk, Soviet generals came to depend on the information from Foote’s transmitter and those of his comrades.On his release from a ten-month remand in a Swiss gaol on an espionage charge, Foote absconded to Paris in 1944 before being invited for debriefing in Moscow.
