Kitáb-i-Íqán - Kniha jistoty
V Knize jistoty (v perštině známé jako Kitáb-i-Íqán) od zakladatele Bahá’í víry Bahá’u’lláha (1817 – 1892) je obsažen podrobný výklad podstaty a účelu náboženství. V té samé knize se Bahá’u’lláh o tomto druhém nejdůležitějším Bahá’í spisu vyjádřil takto: „Ve skutečnosti jsou do tohoto stručného výkladu zhuštěna všechna Písma a jejich tajemství.“
Kniha jistoty vysvětluje Bahá’í postoj k Prorokům Božím a jejich misi v historii společnosti. Obsahuje mistrovský výklad jediné sjednocující pravdy tkvící v základech všech předchozích náboženských zjevení. V pasážích, jež odkazují nejen na Korán, ale i na Nový a Starý zákon, jsou Proroci Boží líčeni jako hybná síla jednoho nepřerušovaného procesu probouzení duchovního a morálního potenciálu lidského rodu. V této knize, kterou Bahá’u’lláh zjevil v Bagdádu v roce 1862 za pouhé dva dny a dvě noci, je vysvětlen koncept postupného zjevování náboženské pravdy po sobě jdoucími Proroky Božími, které známe jako zakladatele světových náboženství a které Bahá’u’lláh nazývá Projevy Božími. Dalším cílem tohoto díla je přesvědčivě obhájit duchovní misi Bahá’u’lláhova předchůdce – Bába.
Kniha objasňuje častá nedorozumění, která u následovníků hlavních náboženských systémů vyvolávají různé alegorické pasáže z Nového zákona, těžko srozumitelné verše z Koránu i záhadné muslimské tradice, a odhaluje význam slov, kterým bylo podle starozákonního proroka Daniela dáno zůstat „zapečetěnými“ až do „času konce“.
Osmělujeme se tvrdit, že „ze všech knih, jež Bahá’u’lláh zjevil, jedině tato Kniha pokládá široké a nevyvratitelné základy k úplnému a trvalému usmíření mezi následovníky velkých náboženství světa tím, že strhává odvěké bariéry, které je od sebe tak nepřekonatelně oddělovaly.“

The book also highlights the role played by the pension system as a mechanism of savings redistribution from wage earners and the self-employed to the funding of big corporations at home and abroad, in a process intermediated by profit-making pension fund management companies. The book compares the resilience of Chile’s private pension system with the reversals of the privatised pension system in recent years in countries of Latin America and Central-Eastern Europe. It outlines a program of structural pension reform towards a more progressive, public-based system.
The Sound of Welsh Patagonia
An ethnographic study of the Welsh-Patagonians that live in the settlement of Y Wladfa. In 1865, a group of 153 Welsh settlers emigrated to Argentina, following an offer from the Argentine government of one hundred square miles on which to live, with the hope of creating a little Wales away from Wales, free from the influence of the English. The Sound of Welsh Patagonia explores the historical and present-day implications of this emigration through an ethnographic account of how and why Welshness is created, sustained, and performed in the Chubut Province of Patagonia, Southern Argentina. The monograph is based on eighteen months of ethnographic fieldwork in the village of Gaiman and surrounding areas with a community of Welsh Patagonians who live in the Chubut Province. Drawing on data gathered from in-depth participant observation and interviews, it argues that the individual and collective subjectivity (of both the Welsh self and the broader community as Welsh) was performatively constituted in the settler colony through the dynamics of seeing and being seen, and through the dynamics of hearing and being heard. In making this argument, The Sound of Welsh Patagonia analyses a series of ethnographic encounters to consider the usefulness and limitations of concepts that have been developed to theorize the self, such as subjectivity, subjectivization, performance, performativity, and self-cultivation.

The story is told through the life of Robert Dudley Edwards, famed as an eccentric but emerging as a deft operator in a dangerous political world. Written by his granddaughter, the journalist Neasa MacErlean, the book also describes his harrowing family life, and the damage inflicted by the narcissist personality disorder of his older daughter Mary. His younger two children, Owen and Ruth, went on to become well-known historians, and the book also explains the dynamics of this family of historians.
Lost Nottingham
The city of Nottingham has been an important centre of trade and industry in the East Midlands since the Middle Ages. Famous particularly for lace-making, centred on the preserved Lace Market area, it was also home to the household names of Boots the chemists and Raleigh bicycles. Since the Norman period the layout of Nottingham and its streets remained virtually the same until the mid-twentieth century. In the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, Nottingham began to see many historic quarters of the city disappear. Large areas were demolished; centuries-old streets disappeared, particularly around the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre where numerous ancient caves under buildings were also destroyed; and famous old buildings such as the Black Boy hotel, Holy Trinity Church and Victoria train station fell victim to the bulldozers. Nové vymezení středověké filosofie - Latinský věk (354-1664) jako éra znaků
John Deely (1942–2017) nám líčí dějiny latinského myšlení, a to z hlediska vývoje sémiotiky, která je podle něj jedním ze základních přínosů latinské civilizace. Deely rozplétá její zápasy od doby Augustinovy přes scholastiku až do první poloviny 17. století, kdy latinský věk předává štafetu novověkému myšlení. Latinská křesťanská filosofie se zabývala především dějinami spásy, usilovala o charakterizaci Boha, světa a člověka v něm, přičemž šlo vždycky o poctivé úsilí vysoce vzdělaných lidí. Deely nabízí příběh, který do latinských staletí vnáší novou perspektivu, než na jakou jsme v novověku zvyklí. Teologické spory odsouvá stranou a současně nabízí možnost pochopit, o co šlo. Dokáže se držet tématu výkladu světa a pokud možno nezabředávat do zákrut středověké teologie či do politických dějin.
Augustin z Hipponu jako hlavní otec-zakladatel latinské tradice zavedl do latinského myšlení pojem znaku (signum). Přitom se domníval, že jenom překládá řecký pojem sémeion. Avšak zatímco sémeion se vztahuje pouze k projevům přírodním, signum se vztahuje také k jazyku a lidskému nitru, jež rozhodujícím způsobem přispívají k rozumění. Naše představy, zkušenosti, paměťové stopy atd., věci existující ve světě i ty v naší mysli mohou vystupovat též jako znaky, tj. označovat něco jiného. Tato základní figura je po celá staletí upřesňována a doplňována, aby nauka vyvrcholila v pozdní scholastice Janem od sv. Tomáše alias Johnem Poinsotem (1589–1644). Nauka možná vyvrcholila, ale svět už neovlivnila: ubíral se jinam, inspirován Poinsotovými současníky, jako byli Galileo a Descartes. Teprve Charles S. Peirce (1839–1914) se začne obírat středověkou scholastikou (tu pozdní patrně neznal), navazuje na latinské myšlení a buduje novou nauku, sémiotiku, jež je v Deelyho podání paralelou k novověké filosofii, jak se odvíjela u Kanta, a mostem k postnovověkému myšlení.
Teolog Vladimír Boublík ve svých dopisech Monice
Dochované dopisy římskokatolického kněze, teologa a exulanta Vladimíra Boublíka Monice Schreier z let 1963 až 1968 a z posledních týdnů jeho života v srpnu a září 1974 přinášejí zajímavé svědectví o životě patrně nejvýznamnějšího českého teologa, žijícího od roku 1952 v římském exilu. Sbírka intimně laděných dopisů přibližuje všednodenní život dvou lidí, které svedla dohromady Moničina pouť ke hrobu svatého Petra. Korespondence zároveň otevírá čtenáři možnost nahlédnout do Boublíkova ryzího teologického díla, jehož část byla přeložena do češtiny.
