A jelen válogatás 128 szonettet és 5 hosszabb költeményt tartalmaz. A verseket Rákóczi István válogatta, aki nagy szakértelemmel kereste ki az egyes témákat és motívumokat leginkább reprezentáló verseket, illetve segített értelmezni a helyenként kissé homályos szövegeket. Camoes tökéletesen ismeri a régi és az új költészet szabályait, a közönséges kliséket és szabályokat, de képes ezektől elvonatkoztatni, és talán ezért olyan nagy költő. A kor divatja szerint ír szerelmes verseket, rajong a hölgyekért, de érződik, hogy ezek a hölgyek nem egyszerűen a képzelet szüleményei, a kordivattal ellentétben van testi valójuk, és mélyen átélt érzelmek vannak a sorok mögött. És hiú és sértődékeny, és szeretne csillogó beszédével és tudásával felvágni a kiszemelt hölgy vagy éppen a potenciális versenytársak előtt. Sőt, talán épp azért érezzük magunkat egyedül, mert végtelenül sok különböző tekintet elbeszélésének vagyunk kiszolgáltatva, amelyek nem feltétlenül tudnak egymásról. Külön érdekes, hogy egy férfi szerző egy férfi élettörténetét hangsúlyozottan női tekintetek által beszéli el, úgy, hogy a szövegekből mégis hiányzik a kortárs magyar irodalom nemváltó darabjainak néhol modoros mórikálása. A jelzetten nőies hangok empatikus imitálása nem enyhít a Glaukóma versvilágának szikár kíméletlenségén, az érzékelés zavarba ejtően precíz analízisein, éppen ellenkezőleg. Áfra Jánosnak sikerült megalkotnia egy olyan költészetet, amely bár rokon a kortárs magyar líra érzékeny, intellektuális versvilágával, mégis szuverén, komoly, másokkal össze nem téveszthető nyelven szólal meg.
