Filip Hrazdil v krátkých, přesných básních, volně inspirovaných poetikou haiku, zachycuje pomíjivost okamžiků, ročních dob i lidské blízkosti. Minimalistický jazyk a zdrženlivá obraznost dávají vyniknout tomu, co obvykle zůstává nepovšimnuto – tichu, paměti a křehké přítomnosti.

Get Closer

In his latest collection, Ryan Van Winkle uses photographs to access themes of abandonment, generational incomprehension and the very notion of how we end up where we are. This collection is a poetic photo album. Through these poems, Van Winkle looks at life through a lens – to get closer – to meditate on the anxieties and insecurities of a life. He reckons with how we remember and misremember, and how memories and people can be difficult, and at times painful, to hold on to. In reading this collection it becomes clear that while photographs can be carefully ordered, the emotions and impressions surrounding them cannot.

If you want to know her

In this exquisite pamphlet, grief is on every page, yet there is not a maudlin word. The language is clear and vivid, the memories accessible and, despite the emotional weight of loss explored, there is light and joy here. A collection as freighted with gratitude as sorrow. G W Colkitto is a maven of control of form and line, with the ability to say only what is needed and no more, and in If you want to know her, such craft opens spaces that allow the reader to immerse in the poems, feel deeply and leave with grace. An outstanding collection — poignant and true.

The Opposites Game

AUTHOR OF FIVE POETRY COLLECTIONS • NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED AUTHOR, Brendan Constantine presents his newest collection, The Opposites Game. A playful and profound meditation on language, binaries, and the radical act of seeing each other more clearly. In his fifth collection of verse, The Opposites Game, poet Brendan Constantine inspires us to revel in the abundance of life by reckoning its many astonishments (and antonyms). Through a simple yet profound framework of odes, lists, memoirs, and classroom assignments, Constantine asks us to think critically about how we define and understand each other, urging us to look beyond simplistic binaries and engage with the deeper nuances of meaning. The Opposites Game is a powerful reminder of the intricate relationship between words and the realities they represent, and an invitation to explore the rich, beautiful, and often perilous terrain of human thought and emotion.

Happy the Hours

Hours. Landscapes. Seasons. Life. A musical meditation in poetic prose. 'At any given moment in time', writes Quignard, 'a work receives its sudden audition. Bach and Mendelssohn. Froberger in Bach. A bird in Messiaen.'Like Bach, Quignard is anachronistic. In his remarkable body of work, the accomplished musician and writer, who once began writing a thesis on the language of Bergson, probes incessantly the mystery of time. Happy the Hours is the epitome of this probing, a perpetual beginning. Pascal Quignard is laureate of the Grand Prix du roman de l'Academie francaise (2000), the Prix Goncourt (2002) and the Prix Formentor (2023), amongst many other prestigious awards. Happy the Hours (Les Heures Heureuses, Albin Michel, 2023) is the twelfth in his Last Kingdom series.

Darkness

To interrogate darkness at this moment in history is not only timely, but vital and Bonnie Thurston does it with an honesty and precision that holds our attention. From the darkness of a melancholic disposition to darkness that shelters us safely, from sleepless nights and their moons to trusting in the return of the light on the darkest day and longest night, these pieces are poised, precise, full of sensory details, insightful and shot through with hope. There is fear and grief here, but it will not have the last word.

Bronte Journey

Liliana Pasterska is the maven of finding emotional depth in the detail of the everyday. In Brontë Journey we are invited to walk alongside a love story, one that is sundered by loss, yet shines all the more brightly for that. The language is clear and precise. The places resonate with the beauty and grief that unfold in the personal story of Charlotte Brontë and Arthur Bell Nichols at the heart of the collection. The voices of her subjects carry across time, not an act of ventriloquism, but of empathy and immersion. And if for Arthur, grieving as he leaves Yorkshire six years after Charlotte’s early and sudden death, “Roadside fuchsia will greet him / as if nothing had passed.”, the clue is in the ‘as if’. For so much has passed and this exquisite collection has allowed us in, invited us to share a moment with creatures whose lives still touch us. An elegant, heart-stopping collection.

Devour Everything

Devour Everything is a love letter to heroic failure, to creation in the face of destruction, to the mundane made sacred. Ranging from New York to small-town Aberdeenshire, from pop culture to Norse Valkyries, and wrestling with issues of motherhood, memory and loss, Sarah Stewart's deftly illuminating debut collection reminds us that as humans "we are animals / and our bodies remember things." Sumptuous, lyrical, and downright gorgeous throughout, 'Devour Everything' lives up to its title with gusto in its almost militant devotion to beauty. - Jane McKie 'Devour Everything' slides between worlds, crossing and recrossing the slippery borders between reality and illusion, past and present, memory and loss. Sharply observed, playful but deeply serious, these are poems that unsettle all our certainties. - Helen Tookey Sarah Stewart's close attention to the 'thrum of normality' often reveals the fragility within it, giving us poems poised at an edge, tingling with threat. The result is a finely tuned recital of human interactions, where we come to understand that life's encounters can be small but devastating. - Rebecca Goss

Verná svojmu naturelu a autorskému rukopisu, pridáva do tretice knihu Naskladané (2025).

(Michal Habaj)

? / Return

Rooted in the classical tradition of the Chinese “reversible” poem, ? / Return is engaged in the act of looking back—toward an imagined homeland and a childhood of suburban longing, through migratory passages, departures, and etymologies, and into the various holes and voids that appear in the telling and retelling of history. The poems ask: What is feeling? What is melancholy? Can language translate either?

Čitateľ totiž pozná obsah týchto ľudových piesní a vie ich motív i ideu. V dobe tzv. postmodernistickej, experimentovacej, aspoň čo do tvorby básní, veľmi dobre padne čítanie založené na základných ľudských hodnotách a slovenskom ľudovom folklóre.

The New Carthaginians

SHORTLISTED FOR THE TS ELIOT PRIZE 2025SHORTLISTED FOR THE JHALAK PRIZE 2026'© Codex' SHORTLISTED FOR THE FORWARD PRIZE FOR BEST SINGLE POEMLONGLISTED FOR THE GRIFFIN POETRY PRIZE 2026'Profound, sheer originality... a tantalising jigsaw puzzle of a book' Tristram Fane-Saunders, TelegraphIn The New Carthaginians, time – and with it the world – is out of joint. A hijacked plane lands at Entebbe International Airport in 1976, triggering the crisis that will lead to Idi Amin’s Uganda becoming a pariah state and, within a few years, to the young Nick Makoha’s flight from the country. A mysterious writer daubs poetic slogans on the walls of late-’70s New York City, signing them SAMO©. Three characters who are also one – the Poet, a Black Icarus and a resurrected Jean-Michel Basquiat – journey through a time that is both our own and not, watching TV, discussing art and literature and tucking their wings into their jackets on the way to airport security. Concerned throughout with flight and falling, the sample and the loop, The New Carthaginians is a poetry collection of staggering originality: a work by an author at the height of his powers, in which the familiar Western canons of art, history and philosophy are prised apart and reassembled in a new configuration. Drawing on Basquiat’s technique of the ‘exploded’ collage, our heroes’ odyssey gathers the symbols of a new mythos, through which the othering of Black life might be undone and the stage set for some fresh emergence, some transfigured understanding of myth and life. ‘Hold that note,’ writes the poet. ‘In this place you are no longer the chorus … In any future, remember you are a New Carthaginian.’A FINANCIAL TIMES BEST SUMMER BOOK OF POETRY 2025‘In this book, Nick Makoha has found an otherworldly, visionary voice and diction that arrest you from the first page and never let you go.’ Jason Allen-Paisant, Winner of the TS Eliot Prize
