Christo and Jeanne-Claude. L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped
1961, three years after meeting Jeanne-Claude in Paris, Christo made a study of a mammoth project that would wrap one of the city's most emblematic monuments. 60 years, 25,000 square meters of recyclable fabric, and 3,000 meters of rope later, the artists' vision finally came true. Discover their posthumous installation with this book gathering photography, drawings, and a history of the project's making. Like most of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's work, L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped is temporary and runs for 16 days from Saturday, September 18 to Sunday, October 3, 2021.
Carried out in close collaboration with the Centre des Monuments Nationaux, the historic structure is wrapped in recyclable polypropylene fabric in silvery blue and recyclable red rope. The project is the posthumous realisation of a long-held dream for Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who first drew up plans to wrap the Arc de Triomphe in 1961 while renting a small room near the monument. Published as a tribute to the late artists and their lifelong partnership, the book includes original sketches, technical data, and exclusive photography, creating a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the genesis of this prodigious artwork.

Brněnská secese vyrostla v mnohotvárný a současně celistvý fenomén doby. Objevná poznání jednotlivých uměleckých disciplin tvoří celek překvapivé obsažnosti a výtvarné síly. Jakoby navzájem souzněly verše Neumannovy Knihy lesů vod a strání s geniální hudbou Leoše Janáčka a zářivou barevností obrazů Joži Úprky. Mají společnou schopnost hlubokého poznání přírody, země, krajiny a lidí. Architektura je přirozenou součástí hnutí i samostatnou tvůrčí silou, která vytvořila příznivé prostředí a spolehlivý rámec doby a její kultury. Svým výtvarným úsilím a charakteristickým stylem směřovala secese k nalezení výrazové jistoty a vytvoření slohu jako hodnověrné formy kultury společnosti. F. X. Šalda ve stati Nová krása z roku 1903 označil secesi jako nejvyšší kulturní hodnotu. Jako jednotuumění a života, která je výrazem nutnosti a nikoliv spekulací.
Dne 28. 7. 1914 se lidé probudili do děsivého rána. Rakousko-Uhersko se ocitlo uprostřed rozsáhlého válečného konfliktu, který ničil hodnoty dosavadní společnosti. Secese, založená na ušlechtilých principech se ocitla na hraně závratně probíhajícího rozpadu společenského a kulturního. Teprve po čtyřech letech válečného běsnění přišel nový začátek, založený však na odlišných základech nové vývojové epochy.

Třetí svazek Uměleckých památek Moravy a Slezska organicky navazuje na předchozí díly (A–I, 1994; J–N, 1999) – formálně, metodikou výzkumu i zpracováním; k tomu bylo vše vyloženo v Úvodu 1. svazku UPMS. Na vymezeném území (viz mapu na proponovaném přídeští) se zabývá 270 sídelními celky, městy, městečky, vesnicemi a jejich částmi v abecedním uspořádání sub č. 655–802, obsahujícími díla umělecké povahy v rozsahu od slovanské kultury po současnost. Zabývá se hist. urbanismem, výtvory z oblastí architektury, sochařství, malířství a uměleckého řemesla – pokud se nacházejí in situ. Zmiňuje i depozitní instituce, archivy a muzea, a souborně charakterizuje jejich umělecké sbírky. Významnou součástí tohoto svazku je rejstřík umělců se základními biografickými údaji, zahrnující na 3000 jmen obsažených v dosud vydaných dílech, a také obrazová složka reprezentující 2010 fotografií a 356 výkresů.

Skrytá krása detailu
Kniha představuje širokou paletu originální výtvarné výzdoby pražských staveb, navržených významným architektem Osvaldem Polívkou (18591931) v období kolem roku 1900, tedy v éře pozdního historismu a secese. Polívka je znám jako spoluautor Obecního domu a projektant řady bankovních paláců v centru české metropole, byl rovněž tvůrcem tzv. Nové radnice na Mariánském náměstí. Méně už je známo, že spolupracoval také s řadou pražských stavitelů, jako byli např. Václav Havel nebo Antonín Novotný, na projektech průčelí činžovních domů.
Podrobná fotografi cká dokumentace Pavla Hrocha nás seznamuje s desítkami pozoruhodných detailů, z nichž mnohých si návštěvník Prahy při zběžné prohlídce nepovšimne.
Kniha představuje architekta Polívku a jeho nevšední tvorbu a poté podrobně dokumentuje celky i detaily výzdoby jeho pražských realizací z období 18911922. V Dodatcích nechybí soupis všech jeho staveb, curriculum vitae a slovníček jeho spolupracujících výtvarníků a architektů.

Kengo Kuma: Complete Works 1988-Today
After Tadao Ando, Toyo Ito, and Fumihiko Maki, Kengo Kuma has breathed renewed vigor and lightness into Japanese architecture. Departing from the modernist skyscraper of the 20th century, Kuma traveled through his native Japan to develop a truly sustainable approach, translating local craftsmanship and resources into site-specific, timely buildings. Informed by tradition, and with both feet firmly planted in the present, this "materialist" heralds a new tactile architecture marked by its engaging surfaces, innovative structures, and fluid forms, reconnecting people with the physicality of a house. Kuma's objective, above all else, is "just to respect the culture and environment of the place where I am working."
To this end, Kuma shaped the China Academy of Art's Folk Art Museum partially from discarded roof tiles; created a Chapel out of birch and moss in Nagano; and worked with local craftsmen to sculpt the V&A Dundee into a twisted, layered reflection of the Scottish coastal cliffs. With an extraordinary sensitivity for space, light, and texture, Kuma reveals unexpected qualities in materials, finding the weightlessness of stone in Chokkura Plaza and the softness of aluminum in the thatched roof of the Yangcheng Lake Tourist Transportation Center.
More recently, the architect brought his philosophy to the Japan National Stadium built for the Olympic Games, originally planned for 2020. Kuma has said the stadium could be "the catalyst that will transform Tokyo back from a concrete city. I want it to set an example that will help alter the direction of Japanese architectural design."
In this XXL-sized monograph with some 500 illustrations spanning photographs, sketches, and plans, Kuma guides us through his entire career to date, detailing milestone projects as well as ongoing works.

Airport Wayfinding
Airports are places with multi-layered identities that millions of people pass through and where cultures meet: On the one hand, the history and the design heritage of the particular country can be identified and local characteristics are intensified and reinforced almost stereotypically. On the other hand, airports represent hypermodern functional environments in which processes are internationally standardized and maximally efficient, with a strong emphasis on entertainment and consumption. Guidance systems navigate people through airports. The graphic language creates an image in the viewer’s head carrying the respective identity in its own compact form through color, fonts, and pictograms. The authors, both specialists in the field, decipher this identity and trace its emergence and evolution over the decades. From the perspective of information design, they examine and analyze the wayfinding systems of approximately 70 airports by aligning their identities and functions.
Opravy historických staveb
V poslední době se při opravách starých staveb setkávám stále častěji s názory na řešení dílčích problémů, které jsou mylné, stavbě neprospívají a mnohdy ani neodpovídají fyzikálním zákonům. Mnoho lidí opravuje své staré domy (leckdy svépomocí), a to je pole pro vznik a šíření laických řešení. Lidé se spíše poradí se sousedem nebo na sociálních sítích než s odborníkem.
Není to problém jen současnosti, už v 1. století po Kristu o tom psal klasik stavitelství a architektury Vitruvius:„… nikdo se nepokouší provádět doma nějaké jiné umění, např. ševcovské, valchářské nebo něco z ostatních, jež jsou snadnější, leda stavitelství…“ Proto jsem se rozhodl napsat knížku, ve které bych chtěl využít dlouholeté zkušenosti s opravami a obnovou starých staveb a pokusil se upozornit na mylné názory, se kterými se setkáváme. Motherland
Parangole is an annual, independent journal that challenges ideas on urbanization, design and architecture by initiating a global dialogue on topics such as mobility, migration, fluidity and multiplicity. The journal expands on the cultural, social and political significance of what it means to live in the city. The title of the magazine pays homage to the work of Brazilian artist Helio Oiticica, extending his central tenet that "life is movement" from the body to the city. Founded in 2004 by partners Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, Neri&Hu Design and Research Office is an inter-disciplinary architectural design practice based in Shanghai, China. Neri&Hu works internationally providing architecture, interior, master planning, graphic, and product design services.
