Kniha je již třetí výběr z textů Zdeňka Lukeše, které byly publikovány v sobotní příloze Orientace v Lidových novinách, tentokrát v letech 20172020. Přibližuje svět architektury zhruba od druhé poloviny 19. století až do současnosti a vedle hvězdných autorů, jako jsou Jan Kotěra, Josef Gočár, Otakar Novotný, Dušan Jurkovič nebo Otto Wagner, Antoni Gaudí a Le Corbusier, defilují zde také Karl Ernstberger, Otto a Karl Kohnovi, Otto Reichner, František Kavalír, Ladislav Skřivánek či Thomas Short, tedy jména dnes už prakticky neznámá. Totéž platí i pro stavby jsou mezi nimi jak slavné dominanty, tak i objekty, o nichž se moc často nepíše.

Connectedness acknowledges the incomplete nature of its project seeing as how this riotous era is not yet finished. With contributions by Greta Thunberg, Bill McKibben, Alice Waters, Tomás Saraceno, Björk and many others, this publication consists of approximately 100 entries, arranged alphabetically, each reflecting on questions, phenomena, terms, possibilities and theories associated with the Anthropocene. Examples of entries include Air, Borders and Coexistence, as well as more complex subjects such as Donna Haraway on the Chthulucene or Anders Blok on Climate Risk Communities. Encina House by Aranguren & Gallegos, an elegant, sloping structure reminiscent of a gazebo, similarly inhabits its surrounding vista. Ensconced in a pine forest north of Madrid, the lower level is embedded in rock and connected to the upper by a natural stone wall. Shinichi Ogawa's Seaside House is an immaculate two-story minimalist marvel in Kanagawa that overlooks the Pacific. Its living area spills onto a cantilevered terrace and infinity pool, almost dissolving into the ocean as one seamless entity. In Vietnam, Shunri Nishizawa's House in Chau Doc exudes tropical sophistication with exposed timber beams, woven bamboo, plants, concrete panels, and inner balconies and terraces. Its corrugated iron panels act as moveable walls and shutters, ushering in views of surrounding rice fields.These homes-along with more than 50 others-are each remarkably distinct in design. They all, however, toe the line between inside and outside, each one symbiotic with its surroundings.

Mariánský sloup
Kniha přístupnou a atraktivní formou pojednává o vzniku, stržení i obnově mariánského sloupu na Staroměstském náměstí v Praze.
Sloup byl postaven jako pomník k poctě Bohorodičky na poděkování za obranu Prahy před pleněním švédských vojsk v roce 1648. Místo, kde stál a opět stojí, lze bez obav označit za duchovní střed Prahy i Evropy. Dílo českého raněbarokního sochaře Jana Jiřího Bendla považují mnozí po zásluze za umělecky hodnotnější, než jsou podobné sloupy ve Vídni a v Mnichově.
Autor nezastírá, že sloup je předmětem ostrých historických, politických a konfesních sporů, volá ovšem po vzájemném porozumění a usmíření. Když se sloup v listopadu 1918 stal terčem politováníhodného vandalského činu, nikdo netušil, že se jeho obnovy dočkáme až v létě 2020. Stržení sloupu se ale mezitím stalo mohutným impulsem pro výstavbu řady nových kostelů na různých místech Prahy (viz epilog knihy).
Autor uvádí do pozoruhodných souvislostí stavby, události i osobnosti, spjaté s Mariánským sloupem. Jeho výklad doprovázejí desítky fotografií, ukázky z dobových dokumentů, reprodukce výtvarných děl, ale i modlitby, dopisy, básně a věroučné reflexe.
