„Slávne kúpele Slovenska“ nás zavedou postupně do 21 lázeňských míst Slovenské republiky a představí nám svých 121 významných architektonických objektů. Publikace představuje vyvážený přehled historie lázeňství na Slovensku a prostřednictvím dějinných událostí popisuje i vznik jednotlivých lázeňských měst a míst s ohledem na jejich architekturu. Důležitou součást publikace tvoří také příběhy vybraných osobností (architektů, stavebníků, vzácných lázeňských hostů) spojených s dějinami či architekturou lázeňských míst.
Texty o jednotlivých lázeňských stavbách doprovází bohatý obrazový materiál sestávající z dobových pramenů i současných stavebních plánů a fotografií. Závěrečná kapitola je věnována mapám lázeňských míst a vycházkovým okruhům po jednotlivých stavbách.
Kisszeben Keresztelő Szent János temploma
Kisszeben, Szeben (szlk. Sabinov, ném. Zeben, lat. Cibinium) város a Csergő-hegység délnyugati lábánál, a Tarca folyó völgyében. Az Eperjesi kerület kisszebeni járásának székhelye. A város legértékesebb épülete a Keresztelő Szent Jánosnak szentelt, gótikus stílusú római katolikus templom. A háromhajós plébániatemplom a főtéren áll. Alapjaiban római kori, a XIV. század elején gótikus stílusban átépítették. 1461-ben, amikor a husziták fölégették a várost, leégett a templom is. Főoltárán felirat emlékeztet a nagy tűzre. Az újjáépítés 1484-ben kezdődött. A tűztől leginkább sérült szentélyt 1505-re sikerült helyreállítani. Az 1518-ig késő gótikus stílusban megnagyobbítottáka hosszházat. A templom teljes felújítása reneszánsz kiegészítésekkel 1529-ben fejeződött be. 1846-ban újabb tűz rongálta meg a tornyát. A kisszebenieknek 33 évet kellett várniuk a rendbehozatalra. Fő ok a pénzhiány volt. 1863-ban ismét tűz pusztított. Ezután döntött a gyülekezet a templom teljes felújításáról. 1864-1879 és 1895-1897 során két ütemben folyt a rekonstrukciója. E második szakaszban Schulek Frigyes irányította a munkálatokat. A tornyot 1879-ben állították helyre a késő gótika jegyében. Szerencsére, a beavatkozások nem változtattak építészeti jellegén. A költségekhez az egyház és a hívek mellett a város és a magyar nemzeti hatóságok is hozzájárultak. Az ünnepélyes átadásra 1879. augusztus 20-án, Szent István király ünnepén került sor.
