Česká publikace Kapitoly z dějin designu je rozšířenou verzí původně dvoudílné knihy, kterou v letech 1998 a 2000 vydalo Slovenské centrum dizajnu v Bratislavě. Oproti slovenskému vydání bylo české obohaceno o kalendárium starších historických období, o závěrečnou kapitolu věnovanou designu počátku 21. století a obrazový materiál. Vypuštěny byly stati zabývající se designem slovenským, naopak přibyly ty, které jsou spjaty s českými zeměmi. V poválečných dějinách je více pozornosti směřováno k mezinárodně akceptovanému okruhu Kovářovy školy, jinak je situace domácího designu pouze zevrubně komentována v širších souvislostech vývoje v zemích tzv. reálného socialismu a v kontextu proměn souvisejících s rozkladem tohoto systému. Autor Zdeno Kolesár se prostřednictvím obrázků a poznámek pokusil naznačit signifikantní tendence designu v poválečném Československu, resp. České republice. Nicméně si je plně vědom fragmentárnosti tohoto náčrtu. Záměrně zvolený titul snad upozorní čtenáře na to, že se jedná pouze o některé kapitoly z dějin designu, nikoliv o vyčerpávající pohled na jeho historii, zahrnující všechny jeho projevy.Ve druhém českém vydání autor rozšířil předposlední kapitolu, v níž se zaměřuje na devadesátá léta 20. století. Nové stati se věnují minimalismu, ekologickým souvislostem designu, obnovené víře designérů v aplikovanou vědu a posunům akcentu postmoderního designu od vnějších stylových příznaků k hlubším koncepčním souvislostem designérské tvorby. Více prostoru je věnováno nizozemskému designu, který v tomto období zaznamenal impozantní vzestup. Přibylo i několik nových fotografií. Od prvního českého vydání uplynulo pět let, takže text závěrečné kapitoly týkající se designu počátku nového století narostl na dvojnásobek a kapitola byla obohacena i o aktuální obrazový materiál. Základním úkolem pro designéra přestává být definování vztahu funkce a formy v tradičním vymezení, často jde spíše o tvorbu uživatelského rozhraní jako metafory zprostředkující pouze tu část komplikovaných technologií, která je pro používání nevyhnutelná. Nedávná minulost poskytuje příklady překvapivého spojování světa rozumu a citu, nejnovější techniky a emotivních řešení. Nový romantismus jako by se vyžíval v bohaté dekoraci. Na rozdíl od romantismu 19. století však vztah současných designérů k technice není skeptický. Právě naopak. Nové technologie zároveň paradoxně umožňují integrovat do výrobních procesů „středověké“ řemeslné metody. Dále se stírají hranice mezi volným uměním a designem. Tzv. parametrický design zase zpochybňuje tradiční pole působnosti člověka a stroje.
