Robert Capa: In the Making

Photographer and war reporter Robert Capa (1913–54) is a legend of photojournalism, and his work, widely recognized and sometimes controversial, shaped the history of the medium. Born Endre Friedmann to Jewish parents in Budapest, he left Hungary in the early 1930s and took the pseudonym Robert Capa, believing that it was easier to sell his work with an American-sounding name. He went on to cover the major events of the mid-20th century: from the rise of Front Populaire in France to the Spanish Civil War, the Second World War and Indochina, where he was killed by a landmine.

Mo Yi - Selected Photographs 1988-2003

Mo Yi is a photographic artist with a career spanning nearly forty years, from the 1980s to today. Man Ray (1890–1976) was a man both of and ahead of his time. With his conceptual approach and innovative techniques, he liberated photography from previous constraints and opened the floodgates to new ways of thinking about the medium.
A close friend of Marcel Duchamp and André Breton, he was one of the few photographers to be mentioned among the Dada artists and Surrealists. He also worked as a fashion photographer, first for Vogue, and later for Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair. Renowned as the creator of Ingres’ Violin – a photograph from 1924 that broke records when it was sold for $12.4 million in 2022 – Man Ray remains an influential figure in the worlds of art, fashion and pop culture, with many other artists referencing his work.
