A gép közben átvette fölöttem a hatalmat. A világ nagy robajjal átvonult felettünk. Mindannyian meghemperegtünk kicsit a sárban, aztán lassan felálltunk és továbbléptünk. Ha mocsár volt, hát mocsár volt. Mégis igazgyöngyök lapultak már a zsebeimben. Szolgáltam tovább a gépemet. De most Anyám nyelvéről beszélek. Az édes anyanyelvemről. Kopott költőim, regényes napjaim, székely és csángó barátaim, emigrációban élő íróink nyelvéről. Különös sorsok, ízes történetek csalogattak városról városra. Felpörgetett, színes napok vártak rám. Sokkal több füstös konyha, mint fényes palota. Végül felfedeztem újra a hitemet.

Man Ray

Rays of Light Man Ray, multitalented master of modernist imagery Man Ray (1890–1976) was a polymath modernist, working in painting, sculpture, film, printmaking, and poetry. But it was his work in photography, with nude studies, fashion work, and portraiture that saw him pioneering a new chapter in the history of camerawork and art. With a wide-ranging collection of both his famous and lesser-known works, this monograph gives a vivid overview of Man Ray’s multifaceted practice and photographic legacy. It traces Ray from his artistic beginnings in New York through to his central role in the Parisian avant-garde, where he featured in the first Surrealist exhibition with Jean Arp, Max Ernst, André Masson, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso and produced such now iconic works as Noire et blanche and Le Violon d’Ingres. Through numerous examples of still life, portraiture, and beyond, we see how Ray constantly experimented with new techniques, pushing photography out of its documentary domain into ethereal, poetic expressions through multiple exposure, solarization, and the particular brand of photograms he wittily termed “rayography.”

Gótikus templomok a történelmi Magyarországon

A magyar történelem hagyatékát fényképezőgépével hosszú évtizedek óta megörökítő Kaiser Ottó fotográfus új albumában a történelmi Magyarország területén fellelhető gótikus remekműveket mutatja be. Bár a török megszállás évtizedei és a történelem más viharai alaposan megtépázták a gótika örökségét, Kaiser Ottó fotói ékesen tanúsítják a gótikus építményköltemények időtlen szépségét.

Joel Meyerowitz: A Question of Colour

Joel Meyerowitz: A Question of Color traces the experiments in color and black-and-white photography of the young Meyerowitz, a pioneer in the history of color photography. An early advocate of color photography, Joel Meyerowitz has impacted and influenced generations of artists. For fifty-eight years, the master photographer has documented the United States’ ever-changing social landscape. During the late 1960s, Meyerowitz carried two cameras: one loaded with monochrome stock, the other with color. Just how, when, and why American fine art photographers switched from black-and-white image-making, prized within the gallery system, to color photography, once seen as the preserve of tourist photography, has been the cause of much debate. In Joel Meyerowitz: A Question of Color, Meyerowitz tells the story of his early days as a photographer when he was told that serious photographers took black-and-white pictures. "But why," he asked, "when the world is in color?" He then bought a color camera and various rolls of film and began to experiment with color techniques: a passion he continues to pursue. 194 illustrations / 120 in color

Magnum Magnum

Magnum Magnum showcases the best of Magnum members, celebrating the vision, imagination, and brilliance of both the acknowledged greats of photography in the twentieth century and the modern masters and rising stars of our time. Since its founding in 1947 by Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger, and David “Chim” Seymour, the legendary cooperative Magnum Photos has powerfully chronicled the people, cultures, events, and issues of the time. Now, to commemorate its seventy-fifth anniversary, Magnum Photos and Thames & Hudson join forces to publish an updated and expanded edition of the original hit publication Magnum Magnum, which was previously presented in three formats and nine languages and sold over 200,000 copies worldwide. Organized by photographer, Magnum Magnum is built upon a founding concept that made Magnum such a unique creative environment; a collaborative process where each of the four founders edited the other’s photographs. This book evokes the same creative spirit, with each photographer selecting and critiquing six key works by another of the agency’s photographers, along with a commentary explaining the rationale behind their choices. This new edition, updated on the occasion of Magnum’s seventy-fifth anniversary, adds the twenty-five photographers who have joined Magnum in the last fifteen years. With more than 150 new photographs and over 700 pages, this book is the definition of an updated classic. 533 color illustrations

Nero Dolce & Gabbana

Black, the most powerful and overwhelming color, is the symbol of Dolce&Gabbana and encapsulates opposite feelings that attract: sensuality and rigor, tragedy and love. But Dolce&Gabbana goes beyond the sartorial perfection of their clothes: it is first and foremost a way of being, questioning, and thinking. In this large format book, printed in black and white, the great masters of Italian and international reportage, who have portrayed Sicily since the 1950s, are contrasted with the most important fashion photographers, who have interpreted Dolce&Gabbana Black from behind their lenses since the 1980s. These include Sergio Larrain, Bruno Barbey, Ellen von Unwerth, Gian Paolo Barbieri, Mert&Marcus, Helmut Newton, Peter Lindberg, Paolo Roversi, and Giuseppe Tornatore. In these photographic masterpieces, which range from advertising campaigns to the most iconic editorials and shots never before seen by the general public, published here for the first time, the stars of cinema, entertainment, and the fashion system – featuring Monica Bellucci, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, and Madonna among others – will alternate with suggestive portraits of ordinary people, in a constant dialog that puts Dolce&Gabbana Black at the center.

Alex Webb: Dislocations

A contemporary reimagining of Alex Webb's long out-of-print, limited edition book Dislocations. Recognised as a pioneer of colour photography, Alex Webb is able to juxtapose gesture, colour and contrasting cultural tensions into a single beguiling frame, resulting in evocative images that elevate fractured and multilayered meanings. His book Dislocations, first published in 1998 as a limited edition accordion book with Canon Laser prints (then considered state of the art), brings together pictures from the many disparate locations over Webb's oeuvre, meditating on the act of photography as a form of dislocation in itself. Spurred by the pandemic, and its world of closed borders and disrupted travel, Webb reconsidered the impossibility of creating this series of images: the result is this reimagined edition of Dislocations, which includes new photographs taken in the twenty-five years since the original. This characteristically exquisite book brings a fresh perspective to Webb's expansive catalogue, and speaks to the palpable sense of dislocation in our time.

The Bigger Book of Breasts

While the original Big Book of Breasts was an overview of busty models of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, The Bigger Book of Breasts profiles the top models in encyclopedic form, with personal information and all-new photos, as well as the top models of today. Stars include Virginia Bell, Roberta Pedon, Hitomi Tanaka, Luna Amor, Nadine Jansen, and more. New and Bigger Busty Beauties An encyclopedic guide to the biggest-breasted stars past and present The Big Book of Breasts was an immediate best seller when it debuted in 2006. Its 396 pages introduced readers to the top naturally bountiful nude models of the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s, amazingly mammiferous beauties including Virginia Bell, Roberta Pedon, Mary Waters, Keli Stewart and many more. We listened, and The Bigger Book of Breasts answers! Not only are there more pages with all new photos of your favorite big breast models of the ’50s through ’70s, there are also personal profiles for each and every one. Which model married comedian Richard Pryor? Who inspired Russ Meyer’s first film? Where are those free Mary Waters loops? And yes, Roberta Pedon is alive and well! Further updating the “Bigger” theme, we added the 12 most incredible, natural, and provocative breast models of today, gathered from across the world by Berlin-based photographer, Bernd Daktari Lorenz. Nadine Jansen, Luna Amor, Miosotis Claribel and the incredible Hitomi Tanaka prove breasts are bigger than ever, and bigger is beautiful, for both breasts and books. Wrap it up with stunning photos of our original cover girl Kelly Madison and The Bigger Book of Breasts is a bigger treat for all.

Saul Leiter - The Centennial Retrospective

Celebrating the centennial of Saul Leiter’s birth, the official retrospective of a revolutionary figure in twentieth-century photography. Saul Leiter photographed and painted nearly every day for over sixty years, amassing an enormous archive, most of which remained unseen during his lifetime. Finding inspiration within a few blocks of his apartment in Lower Manhattan, he was a master at discovering beauty in the most ordinary places. Celebrated today for his evocative colour photographs of New York in the 1950s and 1960s, which were unknown in their day, Leiter also found success as a fashion photographer for Harper’s Bazaar. All the while he was shooting black-and-white street scenes on his daily walks, and nudes and intimate portraits back home, while continuing his painting explorations with abstract watercolours, whimsical sketchbooks and painted photographs. Created in collaboration with the Saul Leiter Foundation, this definitive monograph brings together these diverse yet interconnected bodies of work – including much that was previously unpublished – to reveal the complete artist for the first time.

Nick Waplington - Comprehensive

An expansive and timely survey on contemporary British photographer and artist Nick Waplington, with work spanning his entire 40-year career – his first comprehensive retrospective volume London- and New York-based artist Nick Waplington uses photography to capture the complex and far-reaching aspects of our lived experience. He rose to prominence in the early 1990s with Living Room and has since become known for his unfiltered depictions of people and places, and the sociopolitical backgrounds that define them. From the chaos, violence, and euphoria of riots, protests, and free parties to the surreal, hypnotic quiet of his large-format landscapes, Waplington’s work (in all its messy humanness) transcends stereotypes and confounds expectations, and this book is no exception. Including never-before-published images, offering new insight into both well- and lesser-known projects, as well as Waplington’s painting and artistic practice, the book opens with a newly commissioned introduction from Simon Baker, one of the leading curators of contemporary photography in Europe and director of the Maison Européenne de la photographie (MEP), Paris. This is the most extensive survey of Waplington's work to date, and includes previously unpublished photographs, as well as paintings, sketchbooks, and other artworks that complement his practice.

Negatives

A gorgeous hardcover time capsule of the emo music scene as it was from 1996 to 2006, featuring never-before-seen photographs and never-before-told stories from key emo musicians, photographers, and icons. While the term emo has become a familiar label, there was a time when that wasn’t the case. Many bands of the mid-to-late '90s would never have classified themselves as such. With the advent of the 2000s, the previously underground emo scene was put on the map, and the term and sound of the genre morphed into something new. Today, the musical and cultural impact of this movement is alive and well, responsible for some of the biggest and most influential acts of the 21st century, from Jimmy Eat World to My Chemical Romance, and the emo label has been reclaimed by those who can’t imagine life without it. Through rare and never-before-seen photographs Amy Fleisher Madden, founder of Fiddler Records (Dashboard Confessional, New Found Glory, Recover, and more), thoughtfully and lovingly put together this moving archive of the second and third waves of emo. With a foreword by Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional and revealing essays from Frank Iero, Geoff Rickly, Norman Brannon, Matt Pryor, Jesse Johnson, Andrew McMahon, and Bob Nanna, as well as insights and bite-sized narratives from photographers and other musicians of the era, this heartwarming time capsule expounds an extraordinary moment in music history—a scene that gave life to not only numerous big names but also to a powerful sound and even more powerful friendships. Featuring more than eighty bands, including: - Jimmy Eat World - Dashboard Confessional - My Chemical Romance - Texas Is the Reason - Taking Back Sunday - The Get Up Kids - Thursday - Fall Out Boy - American Football - Jawbreaker From basements and VFW halls to dive bars and holes-in-the-wall, during long overnight drives through the middle of nowhere and stolen moments of sleep in carbon-copy motels, Negatives captures the heart of what made up this tight-knit community, an official archive of life as it was, taking you on stage, behind the curtain, and on the road. A UNIQUE LOVE LETTER FROM EXPERT AUTHOR: The first of its kind, Negatives is not a critic's take—rather a touching and heartfelt time capsule and photographic archive of the scene as told by those who lived it. Collaboration

A radical new history of photography from a team of esteemed writers and thinkers that focuses on the complex collaborations between photographer and subject. Collaboration is a groundbreaking publication, by five great thinkersand practitioners in photography, in collaboration with hundreds of photographers, writers, critics, artists, and academics. This collection uses the lens of collaboration to challenge dominant narratives around photographic history and authorship. Working with an accumulation of more than six hundred photographs, each entry breaks apart photography’s “single creator” tradition by bringing to light tangible traces of collaboration?the various relationships, exchanges, and interactions that occur in the making of any photograph and in the shaping, undoing and transforming archives. The book explores themes such as coercion and cooperation, friendship and exploitation, shared interests and competition, and rivalry or antagonistic partnership. Collaboration foregrounds key issues facing photography, including gender, race, and societal hierarchies/divisions?and their role in shaping and reshaping identities and communities, and provoking resistance or conformity. The photographs are presented alongside quotes, testimonies, and short texts offering perspectives on the array of themes, geographies, contexts, and events. The editors introduce each cluster of projects by providing a framework to understand and decode the complex politics, temporalities, and potentialities of photography. Collaboration reconstructs the infrastructure of photography as a collaborative practice and offers a pedagogical tool for practitioners and scholars of photography. 724 color illustrations
