Audrey Hepburn Photographs 1953-1966
Our Fair Lady. The many facets of Hepburn's beauty, on and off set. In his distinguished career as a Hollywood photographer, Bob Willoughby took iconic photos of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Jane Fonda, but remains unequivocal about his favorite subject: Audrey Kathleen Ruston, later Edda van Heemstra Hepburn-Ruston, best known as Audrey Hepburn. Willoughby was called in to shoot the new starlet one morning shortly after she arrived in Hollywood in 1953. It was a humdrum commission for the portraitist often credited with having perfected the photojournalistic movie still, but when he met the Belgian-born beauty, Willoughby was enraptured. "She took my hand like...well a princess, and dazzled me with that smile that God designed to melt mortal men's hearts," he recalled. As Hepburn's career soared following her Oscar-winning US debut in Roman Holiday, Willoughby became a trusted friend, framing her working and home life. His historic, perfectionist, tender photographs seek out the many facets of Hepburn's beauty and elegance, as she progresses from her debut to her career high of My Fair Lady in 1963. Willoughby's studies, showing her on set, preparing for a scene, interacting with actors and directors, and returning to her private life, comprise one of photography's great platonic love affairs and an unrivalled record of one of the 20th century's touchstone beauties.

Kompozice je základem, na kterém stojí každá dobrá fotografie. Když Michael Freeman vydal knihu The Photorgrapher’s Eye (v českém překladu vyšla ve vydavatelství Zoner Press pod názvem Očima fotografa), stala se rázem celosvětovým bestsellerem, vždyť jenom v češtině vyšlo již její čtvrté vydání. Early black and white
The distinctive iconography of Saul Leiter's early black-andwhite photographs stems from his profound response to the dynamic street life of New York City in the late 1940s and 50s. While this technique borrowed aspects of the photo-documentary, Leiter's imagery was more shaped by his highly individual reactions to the people and places he encountered. Like a Magic Realist with a camera, Leiter absorbed the mystery of the city and poignant human experiences. Together with Early Color (2008), also published by Steidl, Early Black and White shows the impressive range of Leiter's early photography.

Galéria Svet je prehliadkou 59-ich fotografií z celého sveta. Ponúka nahliadnutie na krásy prírody Madagaskaru,
Nórska, Afriky, ale aj Slovenska či Antarktídy a Severného pólu, na ktorom mal ako jeden z mála fotografov vlastnú
výstavu. Anton Fiala nielenže precestoval a na fotografoval všetky svetové kontinenty, ale na každom z nich mal
výstavu vlastných fotografií. Fotograf Fiala cestuje vždy s malou skupinou ľudí prevažne do miest, ktoré nie sú často
navštevované. Pri svojej práci používa analógové aj digitálne fotoaparáty, prezradil.
Anton Fiala je vášnivý cestovateľ a fotograf. Pred 43mi rokmi začal fotografovaním krás slovenského Liptova, Oravy,
Spiša a Kysúc. Pravidelne vydáva cestovateľské publikácie, zúčastňuje sa cestovateľských besiet a premietaní.
Výstava fotografií Antona Fialu Galéria Svet je pre návštevníkov prístupná v Slovenskom národnom múzeum, v sídelnej
budove na Vajanského nábreží v Bratislave. Fotografie budú vystavené do 30. júna 2014.
Anton Fiala sa narodil v roku 1955 v Bratislave. Po ukončení štúdií na SOU polygrafickom (odbor reprodukčný grafik –
fotograf), pokračoval od roku 1975 v štúdiu na FAMU v Prahe, odbor umeleckej fotografie. V rokoch 1972 až 2014
realizoval 109 samostatných výstav a zúčastnil sa na viac ako 94 výstavách v zahraničí, na ktorých získal veľa
významných ocenení. Jeho diela sú zastúpené v zbierkach renomovaných galérií a múzeí doma i v zahraničí.

The Asylum of the Birds
Asylum of the Birds is a new body of work by Roger Ballen, one of the most original image-makers of our times. Ballen has always sought to push the boundaries of photographic practice and has created an aesthetic and artistic vision unlike any other contemporary photographer. The images in Asylum of the Birds have been photographed entirely within the confines of a house in a Johannesburg suburb, the location of which remains a tightly guarded secret. The inhabitants of the house, both people and animals, and most notably the ever-present birds, are the cast who perform within a sculptural and decorated theatrical interior that Ballen creates and orchestrates. The resulting images are painterly, complex and surreal. They are richly layered with graffiti, drawings, animals and found objects. In a world where photographers seek to avoid definition, and whose work is often banal, Ballen is a true original who not only defies genres, but has defined his own artistic space as well.
Karl Blossfeldt
A fascination for flora: Timeless photos in which plants become sculptures German photography pioneer Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) photographed plants so beautifully, and with such originality, that his work transcends the medium itself. Over more than 30 years, he took thousands of photographs, revealing a formally rigorous talent whose precision and dedication bridge the 19th- and 20th-century worlds of image making and bring a distinctly sculptural aspect to a firmly two-dimensional art form. They are still lifes, piercingly final statements on their subject, and have endured owing to their aesthetics and the ongoing fascination of students and photographers. It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer it takes a lot of looking before you learn to see the extraordinary. David Bailey The portraits in this book have been personally selected by Bailey from the wide range of subjects and groups that he has captured so brilliantly over the last five decades: actors, writers, musicians, politicians, film-makers, models, artists and people encountered on his travels to Australia, India, Sudan and Papua New Guinea; many of them famous, some unknown, all of them engaging and memorable. Baileys Stardust will be accompanied by a major exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London, in spring 2014, which will then tour to venues on four continents. The book, like the exhibition, is structured thematically, with iconic images presented alongside many lesser-known and previously unseen portraits, and includes an illuminating introduction by the art historian Tim Marlow. Initially engaged as an assistant to John French in 1959, Bailey was contracted by British Vogue the following year. He has since worked for the French, Italian and American editions of the magazine, created album sleeves for major recording artists such as the Rolling Stones, directed television commercials, and made documentary films, including in-depth studies of Cecil Beaton, Luchino Visconti and Andy Warhol. Baileys photographs helped to define the cultural and social scene of the 1960s, and immortalising figures from the worlds of fashion, music, film and art soon elevated Bailey to the status of celebrity himself. Antonionis cult film Blow-up (1966), about a London fashion photographer, was inspired by Bailey, whose life was also dramatised recently in the BBC film Well Take Manhattan (2012), which tells the story of his 1962 New York fashion shoot with the model Jean Shrimpton.
Jiří Valenta
Jiří Valenta (1936 -1991), významný malíř českého informelu a protagonista takzvaných Konfrontací. Po opuštění Československa v roce 1968, navázal na svou dosavadní tvorbu, ale nepodařilo se mu najít napojení na německou galerijní scénu. V roce 1975 přestává malovat a začíná v tajnosti fotografovat, své práce ovšem nijak neprezentuje a nechává je pouze ve formě diapositivů. Zemřel v Kolíně nad Rýnem.
Jaromír Funke - Between Construction and Emotion
The first large-scale monograph on this internationally renowned photographer.
Jaromír Funke (1896-1945) was a innovator of modern photography, just like Jaroslav Rössler, Man Ray, László Moholy-Nagy, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Aleksander Rodchenko, Paul Strand, and Edward Weston, to name but a few. Like them, Funke set out (in 1922) on the road towards abstraction, which would eventually lead him to his own particular “ism” – photogenism.
Funke also responded to Cubism and created exemplary works of the New Objectivity and Constructivism, but he stood closest to Bauhaus. During the 1920s, he was one of the first to adopt irrational approaches such as Poetism and Surrealism. In the second half of the 1930s, Funke established his “emotional photography” on the basis of Breton’s notion of the magic encounter. He was a typical universally educated intellectual of his era.
This book focuses primarily on the ideas that shaped and transformed Funke’s work, while placing it within the context of European avant-garde photography and culture, of which he was a pioneer.
The book was prepared in cooperation with Jaromír Funke’s daughter Miloslava Rupešová.

Nové, přepracované vydání legendární knihy Miloně Novotného - Londýn, která vyšla poprvé roku 1968. Nemusíme být pamětníky, abychom ocenili suverenitu, s níž fotograf zachytil kosmopolitní přístav v ústí Temže a zároveň osobitě vystihl náladu města, udávajícího tón šedesátým letům. Jistá zašlost významu britského impéria se promítla do duší jeho obyvatel. Právě to fotograf rozpoznal a osobitě podal. Kniha se stala mezníkem v příběhu fotografie hlavně svým pojetím.
