Andres Petersen Cafe Lehmitz
Cafe Lehmitz, a beer joint at the Reeperbahn, was a meeting point for many who worked in Hamburg's red-light district: prostitutes, pimps, transvestites, workers, and petty criminals. Anders Petersen was 18 years old when he first visited Hamburg in 1962, chanced upon Cafe Lehmitz, and established friends that made an impact on his life. In 1968 he returned to Lehmitz, found new "regulars," renewed contact, and began to take pictures. His photographs, which we first published in book form in 1978, have become classics of their genre--Tom Waits used our cover picture for his LP Raindogs. Their candidness and authenticity continue to move the viewer. The solidarity evident in them prevents voyeurism or false pity arising vis-a-vis a milieu generally referred to as "asocial." The "other" world of Cafe Lehmitz, which no longer exists in this form, becomes visible as a lively community with its own self-image and dignity.
Pohledy z okna mého bytu - Views from the Window of my Flat
V rozsáhlém časosběrném projektu Pohledy z okna mého bytu (1981-2003) vytvořil fotograf a galerista Jiří Hanke jeden z legendárních souborů české fotografie. Na příkladu „osudu“ jedné z mnoha ulic Kladna jedinečným způsobem zachytil období normalizace i následných transformačních devadesátých let. Především ale osobitě zúročil možnosti fotografie, tematizoval fenomén času a přinesl ojedinělou výpověď o každodenních momentech, ve kterých se koncentroval ubíhající čas.

Understanding a Photograph
John Berger's writings on photography are some of the most original of the twentieth century. Geoff Dyer is the author of four novels and several non-fiction books. Winner of the Lannan Literary Award, the International Centre of Photography's 2006 Infinity Award and the American Academy of Arts and Letters's E. M. Forster Award, Dyer is also a regular contributor to many publications in the UK and the US. He lives in London.

Jaromír Funke - Mezi konstrukcí a emocí
Jaromír Funke (1896-1945)patřil mezi novátory moderní fotografie, podobně jako Jaroslav Rössler, Man Ray, László Moholy-Nagy, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Alexander Rodčenko, Paul Strand, Edward Weston a další. Podobně jako oni se Funke - roku 1922 - vydal na cestu k abstrakci, která vyústila v jeho vlastním -ismu, "fotogenismu".
Reagoval také na kubismus a vytvořil vzorová díla nové věcnosti a konstruktivismu, stál nejblíž Bauhausu. V průběhu dvacátých let akceptoval jako jeden z prvních také iracionální směry, poetismus a surrealismus. Na Bretonově pojetí zázračného setkání založil po polovině třicátých let svoji „emoční fotografii“. Byl typickým všestranně vzdělaným intelektuálem své doby. Součástí knihy je Antologie textů Jaromíra Funkeho.
Kniha přibližuje především logiku utváření a proměn Funkeho tvorby, zasazuje Funkeho dílo do kontextu evropské avantgardní fotografie a kultury. Prokazuje, že Funke patří k jejím průkopníkům.
Jde o první velkou monografii tohoto světově proslulého fotografa. Na knize spolupracovala paní Miloslava Rupešová, dcera Jaromíra Funkeho.

Fotografie jako mýtus
Soubor textů renomovaného esejisty a historika umění, tentokrát věnovaných černobílé fotografii. Kniha je ohlédnutím jednak za Kroutvorovou dlouholetou prací v pražském Uměleckoprůmyslovém muzeu, jednak za jeho celoživotním tématem, kterým je umění a kultura přelomu 19. a 20. století. Tentokrát je reprezentují jména jako Drtikol, Sudek, Bufka, Feyfar, Svoboda, Reich, Pinkava. „Patřím ke generaci,“ říká letos jednasedmdesátiletý autor, „která zažila vzestup, slávu i ústup černobílé fotografie, patřím ke generaci okouzlené černobílou magií. Fotografie pracuje s časem, se zlomkem vteřiny, ale i s dlouhou expozicí, která představuje běh dějin, historii. Ta první expozice je jen malé cvaknutí, ta druhá, která zachycuje dobu i lidské osudy, má mnoho ozvěn. […] Fotografie umí zachytit čas, předat ho budoucnosti, umí nás ale také vrátit do minulosti a zpřítomnit ji.“

Ivo Loos
Ač byl Ivo Loos (1934-2009) celoživotní profesí architekt, významně se zapsal i do dějin moderní české dokumentaristiky. Do povědomí veřejnosti vstoupil jako fotograf v šedesátých letech. V roce 1970 debutoval výstavním cyklem Lunaparky /později nazvaný Poutě/ v Malé galerii Československého spisovatele na Národní třídě v Praze. Vystavený cyklus byl výsledkem desetileté práce a vnesl do československé fotografie novou kvalitu. Navzdory narůstající oblibě kinofilmového formátu se Loos neústupně držel formátu čtvercového. Jako architekt vnímal jeho zklidňující účinek na obraz. Tato zdánlivá statičnost dává vyniknout vnitřní dynamice, skryté, nevyslovené, a přece tak bouřlivé. Loose zajímaly hlavně významové vztahy, které vznikají ve vzájemných střetech anonymních lidských postav, tváří, mimiky a gest. Vztahy, v nichž lze vyčíst nejrůznější společenské obsahy. Obyčejnost, prostřednost – to Loos hledal na místech veřejných shromaždišť. Tušil, že právě v nich, v běžnosti životních stereotypů, je obsažena pravda o nás a naší době. Ve svých fotografiích z dalších cyklů i jen započatých sérií dokázal Ivo Loos vystihnout jedinečnost situace a charakter doby. Sestavil sérii „typů“, které spoluvytvářely socialistickou všednost. Loosovy fotografie jsou precizními dokumenty, které mohou být vnímány i jako podobenství o životě v diktatuře sedmdesátých let minulého století. A přesto je Loosův pohled na lidskou existenci do značné míry nadčasový. Fotografie mu byla vizuální pamětí a k jejímu hlubšímu významu podotýká, že “má schopnost říct nám, co jsme”. Ivo Loos chtěl vytvořit celkový obraz městské společnosti, svou fotografickou tvorbu však ukončil v roce 1975. Kniha tvoří průřez jeho cykly: Tváře, Češi, Párkaři, Cesty, Poutě a Hřbitovy. Zároveň obsahuje sérii unikátních fotografií vzniku a instalace náhrobku Jana Palacha, na kterém Ivo Loos jako architekt spolupracoval s Olbramem Zoubkem a který byl zanedlouho po instalaci zničen příslušníky StB.

Umelecký fotograf Rastislav Bero sa vo svojej štvrtej knihe so zvedavosťou malého
dieťaťa ponoril do nekonečných podôb dreva, ktoré podnecujú fantáziu a vyvolávajú
predstavy bájnych i reálnych bytostí a situácií.
Básnik, esejista, spisovateľ, hudobník Daniel Hevier sa nechal inšpirovať obrazovými
podobami dreva a svoje predstavy vyjadril v poetických miniatúrach.
Obaja nám tak sprostredkovali pohľad na veci, ktoré v zhone života akosi nevidíme.
Kniha zaujme obdivovateľov krásy prírody i múdreho slova.
Elliott Erwitt´s Kolor
Kolor is a subtle tribute to George Eastman (who liked words with the letter K because he thought people remembered them better) and his photography empire, Kodak. To select the color photographs for this vast project that have never been published in a book before, Elliott Erwitt sifted through his nearly forgotten ample archive of nearly half a million 35mm—primarily Kodachrome—film slides. Then he began the mammoth task of whittling it down to this epic collection of roughly 450 pages.
For most of these images, the color managed to stay miraculously preserved and every evocative detail is as crisp as the date they were developed, many nearly sixty years ago.
Whether world leaders or sassy showgirls, the subjects reflect Erwitt’s own wry and eclectic sensibility. To say the juxtapositions are intriguing would be an understatement. From marketplaces to military camps, Vegas to Venice, there’s a rich mixture of public pageantry and carefully observed private interactions.

Jméno Viktora Koláře bývá spojováno s Ostravou. Kniha Canada, která je jakýmsi doplňkem k velké monografii Ostrava, ukazuje však méně známé snímky z Kolářova pětiletého kanadského exilu v letech 1968 -1973. Relativně nabytá svoboda ve Vancouveru, Torontu či Montrealu, vykoupená těžkou prací, nutným přizpůsobením se jiné kultuře, jiným zvyklostem, byla pro něj výzvou k hledání sebe samého, ale zároveň i jednou z cest k nalezení vlastního výrazu, myšlení a přístupu k vyjádření fotografickým obrazem.
Lacná kniha Zostra (-50%)
Představuje jiný a nezvyklý pohled na aktuální českou fotografii. Výběrovým kritériem bylo představit fotografii jako tvárné médium, jako jeden ze zásadních prostředků současného umění. Olof Jarlboro se dostal do Sýrie ilegálně. Ve své práci se rozhodl zaměřit na povstalce FSA (Free Syrian Army - Svobodná syrská armáda) bojující proti režimu. Jarlborův způsob bezprostředního zachycení reality jej zavedl na různé fronty největšího města Sýrie, kde měl možnost trávit čas přímo s rebely.
