The author
Gilles Néret(1933–2005) was an art historian, journalist, writer, and museum correspondent. He organized several art retrospectives in Japan and founded the SEIBU Museum and the Wildenstein Gallery in Tokyo. He directed art reviews such as L'Oiland Connaissance des Artsand received the Élie Faure Prize in 1981 for his publications. His TASCHEN titles include Salvador Dalí: The Paintings, Matisse,and Erotica Universalis.

Francis Bacon
Published to accompany the first Francis Bacon retrospective in Paris for twenty years, this catalogue analyses Bacon's works from 1971 onwards in light of his relationship to literature. Kniha editora Daniela Lišku približuje jednu z najvýraznejších postáv košickej výtvarnej scény 20. storočia maliara Júliusa Jakobyho širšej verejnosti prostredníctvom Jakobyho fascinujúceho maliarskeho diela a jeho názorov a myšlienok. Obrazy a předobrazy
Publikace dokumentuje tři mezinárodní přehlídky současného umění, které Karel Císař připravil za posledních zhruba deset let. Výstava Vzpomínky na budoucnost (2009) byla věnována aktuálnosti moderního umění v soudobém umění, Obrazy a předobrazy (2013) vztahovaly díla současných západoevropských umělců k ukázkám středoevropského meziválečného výstavnictví, funkcionalistické sklářské tvorby či surrealistické typografie a výstava Síť, gradient, opilecký krok (2017) představila dva americké umělce vycházející z aplikované matematiky a politické ekonomie. Vzhledem k tomu, že tyto výstavy zároveň naznačovaly obecnější tendence vývoje umění ve sledovaném období, publikace by rovněž měla přispět k poznání dějin současného umění a k problematice metodologie jejich zkoumání. Císařovy texty jsou doprovozeny překladovými statěmi předních teoretiků současného umění (Juliane Rebentischové, André Rottmanna, Lars Bang Larsena a Yve-Alain Boise), které vyšly v době konání výstav, námětově se dotýkají prezentovaných prací a vycházejí z různých metodologických přístupů (kritické teorie, post-strukturalismu, psychoanalýzy ad.). Schiele
Egon Schiele (1890-1918) bol priekopníkom rakúskeho expresionizmu a jedným z najvýraznejších portrétnych maliarov 20. storočia. Jeho tvorbu definuje nepokoj a výrazná farebnosť a deformované postavy sa vzpierajú tradičnému vnímaniu krásy. Schiele najprv pod vedením Gustava Klimta začal tvoriť v secesnom štýle a potom sa vydal svojou vlastnou, drsnejšou estetikou ostrých línií, obscénnych krikľavých odtieňov a afektovaných natiahnutých postáv. Schieleho portréty a autoportréty šokovali viedenskú konzervatívnu spoločnosť. Mnohí Schieleho súčasníci považovali jeho diela za nepekné a pre mnohých boli z morálneho hľadiska neprijateľné.
V dnešnej dobe je Schiele obdivovaný za svoj revolučný prístup k zobrazovaniu postavy a za svoj priamy a neskutočne horlivý, až zúrivý kresliarsky štýl. Táto kniha vyberá zo Schieleho tvorby to najlepšie a predstavuje jeho krátku, avšak plodnú kariéru a jeho nesmierny prínos k rozvoju moderného umenia.
