Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks
With no formal training, Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) succeeded in developing a new and expressive style to become one of the most influential artists in the postmodern revival of figurative during the 1980s. In a series of notebooks from the early to mid-1980s, never before exhibited, Basquiat combined text and images reflecting his engagement with the countercultures of graffiti and hip-hop in New York City, as well as pop culture and world events. Filled with handwritten texts, poems, pictograms, and drawings, many of them iconic images that recur throughout his artwork-teepees, crowns, skeleton-like silhouettes, and grimacing masks-and these notebooks reveal much about the artist's creative process and the importance of the written word in his aesthetic. With over 150 notebook pages and numerous drawings and paintings, this important book sheds new light on Basquiat's career and his critical place in contemporary art history.

Mária Medvecká, Pozdrav maliarke Oravy / Greeting to the Painter of Orava
Medvecká bola svojou tvorbou, životom i kultúrno-spoločenskou prácou pevne spätá s rodnou Oravou. Vyštudovaná učiteľka pôvodne pôsobila na viacerých oravských školách. Už vtedy spoznala krásu prírody a ľudí Oravy. V zložitých rokoch 1942 1947 štud
ovala maľbu v Bratislave, vo Viedni a v Prahe. V tom čase tiež spoznala časť európskej maliarskej moderny. Blízke jej bolo aj dielo prof. Jána Mudrocha a niektorých našich starších klasikov a maliarov Generácie 1909. Po ukončení štúdia sa v roku 1947
vrátila domov na Oravu. Spolu s manželom, maliarom Ctiborom Belanom, synom a dcérou žila v Medvedzí, kde v roku 1979 otvorili Galériu Márie Medveckej. V jej tvorbe maľbe a kresbe dominovala krajina, príroda. Boli to aj figurálne kompozície a pra
covné motívy, po roku 1950 poznamenané doktrínou socialistického realizmu. Maľovala aj kvetinové zátišia a obľúbené, civilistické i emotívne, detské portréty. Popisný realizmus vystriedala jej vrúcna a rýdza realistická maľba maľba vnútornej sily,
expresie, dynamického rukopisu i pôsobnosti farebných nálad a vôní oravskej krajiny v premenách ročných období. Mária Medvecká sa tak stala jedinečnou maliarkou jej" Oravy. Texty katalógu pripomínajú aj doteraz málo publikované širšie ľudské i malia

Jana Farmanová: V znamení panny
Výber diel výtvarníčky Jany Farmanovej, rozdelených podľa maliarskej techniky na akvarely a kresby, nasledujú maľby, prezentuje diela z rokov 2013 - 2014. Do pozornosti je daná doteraz nie až tak samostatne vystavovaná časť tvorby, venovaná technike akvarelu. Akvarel ako technika vyžadujúca si sústredenosť maliarky, jej koncentráciu a rýchlosť je esenciou pre jej ďalšiu maliarsku tvorbu.
Zámerom je aj poukázanie na situácie zo života, ktoré autorka násobením zobrazovania postupne rozvíja a uceľuje tak vlastnú autorskú ikonografiu. Farmanová si vyberá témy, ktorým dominuje jej rodina, najmä život dcér, ku ktorým sa vo svojej tvorbe vracia ob-dekády, ako ku zdroju inšpirácie a dekódovania vzťahu k súčasnosti. Nie je potom náhodné, že situáciam, ktoré tematicky spracováva dominuje tvár – definovaná v maliarskom žánri ako portrét. Farmanová, maľuje momenty, s ktorými empatizuje a chápe, ktoré utvrdzuje v existencii pri svojom bytí, s paralelným konaním a rozmýšľaním iného jedinca. Maliarka celoživotne otvára cesty k akceptácii myslenia iného človeka, preto aj v maľbe ako aj v životnom postoji jej ide o porozumenie, ktoré potom tlmočí v maliarskom jazyku.

Biblia pauperum
Szlovákia középkori templomai a romanika és a gótika korában épültek a 11. századtól a 15. századig. Ezeket a templomokat általában teljes egészében kifestették, azzal a céllal, hogy a hívő "a hit titkait ne csak szívével és eszével, de mint művészi kompozíciót és szimbólumot: érzékeivel is megragadja." Ezekről a képekről ismerték meg a hit titkait, az Ó- és Újszövetség történeteit, Szűz Mária, Jézus Krisztus és a szentek életét. Ezek a falfestmények egyfajta teológiai program szerint készültek. A szentélyben a faliképek általában az Újszövetségből vették témájukat; a szentélyt a hajótól elválasztó diadalíven az Ószövetség prófétáit és történeteit ábrázolták; a templom hajójában általában az utolsó ítéletet és az egyes szenteket bemutató képsorok kaptak helyet.
Szlovákia több mint száz templomában láthatók ma román és gótikus stílusú falfestmények, általában freskók. Ezek közül ebben a könyvben az alábbi témakörbe tartozó képsorokat mutatjuk be: A Maiestas Domini képkompozíció, A karácsonyi ünnepkör képei, A szenvedéstörténet képei, Az önálló Kálvária képek, Az Utolsó ítélet képsora, Szent Mihály kép, Vir dolorum kép, Veronika-kendő, Köpönyeges Mária, Ábrahám kebele kép.

The names Joe Simon and Jack Kirby are synonymous with comic books and together their partnership (which began in the 1940s) ushered in the Golden Age of comics and greatly influenced everything that followed. The Simon and Kirby Studio created such memorable characters as Captain America and the Sandman and were the first to publish in comic books the genres of western, crime, horror and romance (later appropriated by Roy Lichtenstein for his pop art paintings).
