PEN - 'Poets, Essayists, Novelists' - was founded in London in 1921 to promote friendship, intellectual co-operation and exchange between writers from around the world. It has since become a worldwide network of writers, a community extended to more than 100 countries who for 100 years has worked to celebrate all literatures without exception and protect freedom of expression.
What was PEN's role in shaping the very concept of human rights even before it was adopted by the United Nations in 1948? How did PEN develop fundamental ideas on free speech as well as the equality of languages and literatures? This book tells the extraordinary story of how writers from around the world placed the celebration of literature and the defence of free speech at the centre of humanity's struggle against repression and terror. Cesta bílým terorem je autobiografie Kang -i Sun Chang (*1944), profesorky čínské literatury na Yaleově univerzitě a světoznámé sinoložky. Zaznamenává autorčino dětství a dospívání na Tchaj-wanu během tzv. bílého teroru (1947-1987) a také její emigraci do Spojených států amerických, kam ji postupně následovala celá rodina. Jádro vyprávění leží v období deseti let mezi roky 1950-1960, kdy byl autorčin otec Paul Sun z politických důvodů ve vězení.
Kniha v sobě pojí v evropském prostředí málo známá historická fakta o raném politickém vývoji Čínské republiky na Tchaj -wanu a zároveň živý a poutavý popis životního zápasu jedné rodiny ve specifické době. Čtenáři může přinést nejen hlubší porozumění historickým okolnostem poválečné doby, které charakteristickým způsobem formovaly Tchaj -wan jakožto nezávislý stát, ale také rozšířit jeho pochopení osudu celé Číny v druhé polovině 20. století. Vzhledem k lehkému vyprávěcímu stylu však Cesta bílým terorem nepřipraví čtenáře ani o čistě literárně estetický zážitek.

Výběrová bibliografie Božena Němcová inspirací pro umění 1842-2020 je v českém písemnictví unikátní dílo na téma spisovatelka Božena Němcová (1820-1862). Pro čtenáře bude přitažlivý hned úvodní padesátistránkový přehled Uctívání Božena Němcové v letech 1837-2020, jenž přináší množství objevných novinek a informací o podnětnosti, inspirativnosti nejslavnější české spisovatelky od jejího sňatku v září 1837 až po rok 2020, kdy si světová kulturní veřejnost připomínala 200 let od jejího předpokládaného roku narození. Tento nástin ve speciálním kalendáriu přináší především posmrtný kult a mnoho zajímavých a veřejnosti dosud neznámých událostí a fakt o druhém životě B. Němcové v české i zahraniční kultuře. Většina poznatků je zde publikována vůbec poprvé a zejména pro veřejnost a literární vědu znamená nesporný přínos a objev.

To ověřili v zahraničních databázích odborníci z Národní knihovny v Praze i z Ústavu pro českou literaturu Akademie věd v Praze. Její vydání doporučila univerzitní profesorka Jaroslava Janáčková z Univerzity Karlovy v Praze, naše nejvýznamnější současná literární vědkyně zabývající se osobností a tvorbou B. Němcové. Přáli bychom si, aby kniha nalezla cestu k srdcím všech milovníků a čtenářů ikonické Boženy Němcové inspirující a uctívané.
