Následně autor analyzuje jeden po druhém Sartrovy argumenty pro nepochopitelnost smrti, vyvrací je a předvádí, o čem vlastně přemýšlíme, když přemýšlíme o smrti: totiž o svém životě samém a o jeho konečném čase, o světě, na kterém se tento život odehrává, a o těch, se kterými tento svět po konečný čas života svého i jejich sdílíme, a také nevyhnutelně o podstatě toho všeho - tedy o otázkách filosofických.

Od evoluční teorie k nové teorii stvoření
Přibližně ve stejnou dobu, když Marx začal prosazovat komunismus, uvedl Charles Darwin teorii evoluce. V roce 1859 Marx poprvé zveřejnil materialistické pojetí dějin a ekonomiky v díle „Příspěvek ke kritice politické ekonomie“. Ve stejném roce Darwin publikoval svoji knihu „O původu druhů“ a položil tak základ teorie o evoluci živých tvorů. V první polovině 19. století byla teorie evoluce všeobecně přijímána, ale Darwinova teorie se od jiných evolučních teorií zásadně odlišovala.Před Darwinem byla příčina evoluce popisována jako životní síla nebo dějiny řízené Bohem, duch byl považován za substanci, neredukovatelnou na hmotu. Naproti tomu Darwin obhajoval neřízenou mutaci a přírodní výběr. Tato obhajoba byla ryze materialistická.Neodarwinismus má mnoho nevyřešených problémů. Navzdory tomu je stále živý. Důvod, proč darwinismus přežívá, spočívá v tom, že jeho jediná alternativa, totiž teorie stvoření, je těžko akceptovatelná.„Evoluce samotná je zoology přijímána ne proto, že byla dokázána pozorováním, nebo že se její pravdivost dá dokázat z logicky sestavených důkazů, ale proto, že její jediná alternativa, totiž stvoření, je zřejmě neuvěřite lná.“ (Profesor D.
