Česká krajina ve středověké transformaci (s. 7 – 43) The Czech Landscape in Medieval Transformation The study deals with the influence of human activities on the landscape in the thirteenth century, hence at a time when the Přemyslid state was undergoing a wave of dramatic transformations, labelled today as the medieval transformation. Special attention is focused on the influence of mills and generally ‘water’ facilities (weirs, ponds etc.) on the environment and further on the role of the forest whose massive depletions settlement progress and colonisation contributed to.

Sen o strážci hradu Karlštejna (s. 45 – 78) Dream of the Guardian of Karlštejn Castle The study deals with an analysis of the narrative texts from the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries concerning Karlštejn Castle, with regard to both the narrative methods used and the period character of knowledge. The aim of this study is not primarily to cast doubt on the facts presented until now on this generally known phenomenon and other components connected with it, e.g. the feudal system here, but rather to table the question of in which way these frames have influenced the conception of the relevant phenomenon.
