Songs of True Accomplishment
The profound teachings by Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche are in the style of penetrating, pith instructions. This book embodies his subtle and percipient wisdom expressed through the age-old tradition of spiritual songs.The main practice in the Kagyü teaching system is Mahamudra. The lineage of Mahamudra chiefy comes through Marpa Lotsawa’s two root gurus, Naropa and Maitripa. Growing up, however, he had no inclination to become the ruler of a country. Instead, he renounced his kingdom and took ordination as a monk. He studied and became extremely learned. Later, he stayed at the great monastic university of Nalanda in eastern India… Naropa underwent twelve minor and twelve major trials. The minor ones were in his search for his master, Tilopa and the major ones were inflicted by Tilopa. In the end, his realization became identical to his teacher.Naropa’s songs of realization are the Song of Naropa and the Summary of Mahamudra. It is both important and necessary to study and reflect upon such extraordinary teachings on the view of Mahamudra. When put into practice these instructions are incredibly effective.Teachings like Mahamudra, also known as the path of liberation, as explained by Naropa in this book, have the complete, true view. A beginner can embark on this training in a very gentle and relaxed way. It is not necessary to grapple with too many difficulties.Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Thaye was foretold by Buddha Shakyamuni in the King of Samadhi Sutra. When Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche taught this sutra, he mentioned that Gampopa was predicted but I did not say much about Jamgön Kongtrül. In the sutra the Buddha is recorded as saying, “In the future, when the time of degeneration has begun, there will be a great bodhisattva named Lodrö who will vastly benefit beings by means of the five types of knowledge.” In fact, Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Thaye established the body of the Buddha’s teachings, which he collected and composed, within five treasuries. In this way, he delayed the disappearance of the Buddhadharma. When he realized the view of Mahamudra, he spontaneously wrote down the song included here.
Kant Incorporated
Corporations are legal bodies with duties and powers distinct from those of individual people. Kant discusses them in many places. He endorses universities and churches; he criticises feudal orders and some charitable foundations; he condemns early business corporations' overseas activities. This Element argues that Kant's practical philosophy offers a systematic basis for understanding these bodies. Corporations bridge the central distinctions of his practical philosophy: ethics versus right, public versus private right. Corporations can extend freedom, structure moral activity, and aid progress towards more rightful conditions. Kant's thought also highlights a fundamental threat. In every corporation, some people exercise the corporation's legal powers, without the same liabilities as private individuals. This threatens Kant's principle of innate equality: no citizen should have greater legal rights than any other. The Evolution of Socket Bayonet Manufacture
In the case of military muskets and rifles the bayonet was, and still is, an integral part of the ‘weapon system’. There are many excellent books covering the history of the bayonet in its myriad varieties adopted and used by the armed forces of the world. These books provide a wealth of detail on national variations and often include many rare, and in some instances, bizarre bayonets. They focus on the end of the bayonet’s story and do not cover its beginning – the conversion of more or less amorphous pieces of iron and steel into finished products. That is the focus of this publication.It might be asked why, out of all the bayonets of the world, these three have been selected since at first sight they appear very ordinary and mundane when compared with some of their more ‘exotic’ brethren. However, as with the arms they were fitted to and whose manufacture has been covered in two earlier companion volumes, they are the only bayonets whose manufacture is described in varying degrees of detail in contemporary publications. They also share another kinship since, like the weapons they fitted, the Russian M.1808 is a direct copy, and the Enfield Pattern 1853 bayonet a descendant of, the French M.1777. This bayonet was a major landmark in socket bayonet design. It may be distasteful and not something to be contemplated lightly, but the socket bayonet’s function at the end of a musket was to penetrate the body of an enemy in close combat. Earlier bayonets having a plain mortice or ‘zig-zag’ slot engaging with a stud on the barrel to hold them in place, might easily be removed from the musket by one or other of the adversaries twisting it in the wrong direction. Honoré Blanc’s design, with its medial locking ring, prevented such accidental removal and became the prototype for many, if not all, socket bayonets which followed through to the end of the 19th century.

The fates of the six Soviet secret police chiefs—once powerful figures of state repression—serve as stark illustrations. These men, who were responsible for countless deaths during the Great Terror, ultimately shared the fate of their victims, executed by the same regime they served. The author stresses that they were not inherently monstrous but ordinary individuals shaped—and corrupted—by a criminal system. Had historical circumstances differed, they might have lived quiet lives. The positions they held sealed their destinies, making them too dangerous for the regime to keep alive due to the blood they had on their hands, which mirrored that of the top party leadership. Their tragic end highlights how power not only corrupted but consumed its own agents. The author concludes that it was not personal evil but the systemic, criminal nature of Soviet power that transformed these otherwise mediocre men into enduring symbols of terror.A note of gratitude is extended to individuals and institutions who supported the book’s research, especially the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History (RGASPI).

Les ateliers de céramique de la Byzacene du Sud-Ouest is the result of more than three decades of investigation, examining ceramic workshop dumps in the southwest region of Byzacena. Over this period, we have had the rare opportunity to uncover the remains of seven workshops, three of which are still unpublished. Our research unfolded in two main phases : the first focused on locating, identifying, and distinguishing between endogenous and exogenous production in the region, particularly the so-called “classic” types. During the second phase, our efforts shifted to detecting, exploring, and prospecting for new production centers, as well as on the typological, mineralogical, and petrographic analysis of the various products, aimed at disentangling regional production from one another and defining their distribution areas. The task was challenging, especially given the often-pronounced similarities in the clays used and the forms produced. Beyond this technical aspect, which includes body types, slips, shapes, typologies, motifs, and decorative styles, our research stands out for its diachronic approach. This approach reveals the historical factors—both economic and political—that contributed to the the appearance, development, and extinction of these workshops. Additionally, our study of the ceramic rejects from the eight workshops, the subject of this work, revealed a spatial distribution from east to west, with a designated catchment area for each production center and a categorical distribution of types. Chronologically, our findings revealed a synchronisation in the emergence and decline of these workshops and identifying a peak period of activity and production.

Predkladaná pramenná edícia je druhým dielom dokumentov z prostredia Svetového kongresu Slovákov. Nadväzuje na edíciu dokumentov, ktoré vzišli z generálnych zhromaždení v rokoch 1970 až 1990 a boli publikované Ústavom pamäti národa v roku 2021. Predmetná edícia sa zameriava na dokumenty, ktoré súviseli s Helsinským mierovým procesom a z neho vyplývajúcou agendou porušovania ľudských práv komunistickými režimami. Poukazovanie na porušovanie základných práv československým komunistickým režimom patrilo k programovému vybaveniu kongresu, ktorý sa problematikou ľudských, národných a náboženských práv od svojho založenia zaoberal. Pramennú edíciu tvoria memorandá Svetového kongresu Slovákov určené pre kontrolné zasadnutia Konferencie o bezpečnosti a spolupráci v Európe v Belehrade, Madride, Ottawě a vo Viedni. Okrem nich sú do edície zaradené aj ďalšie dokumenty, ktoré obsahovo súvisia s agendou ľudských práv či základným programovým smerovaním Svetového kongresu Slovákov. Buddhist Psychotherapy
A rich resource enabling therapists to bring Buddhist philosophy to modern psychotherapy. Mindfulness-based interventions have become popular mental health treatments in recent years, but these interventions are typically applied by practitioners who lack knowledge of the interventions’ Buddhist origins. The historical, religious, and philosophical foundations of mindfulness offer essential insights for clinicians and researchers alike. This book, a collaboration between two practicing psychologists and an ordained Buddhist nun, examines the early Buddhist philosophical roots of mindfulness and provides a model for modern psychotherapy. In Buddhist psychotherapy, the therapist listens to a client discuss their concerns, considers how the client’s suffering can be conceptualized from a Buddhist worldview, and uses mindfulness and other techniques taught by the Buddha to address the source of their suffering. Předkládaná kniha navazuje na úspěšnou knihu „Dějiny československých legií v datech“. Tehdejší počin byl veden snahou o potlačení selektivního pojetí legionářských dějin, které však do současné doby nezmizelo, přičemž se mu dostává podpory od státních institucí. Některé události, z hlediska celé legionářské historie, jsou sice marginální, dostává se jim však usilovné propagační podpory. Naproti tomu zásadní vojenské akce, spojené v prvé řadě s bojovými akcemi na sibiřské magistrále v létě a na podzim 1918, zůstávají mimo zájem oficiálních autorit. Publikace proto navazuje na svého předchůdce a snaží se, nyní encyklopedickou formou, postihnout vše důležité, co s existencí legionářských jednotek. Více než tisícovka hesel je prioritně zaměřena na legionářské jednotky od úrovně samostatné vojskové setniny výše, na místa jejich dislokace, na velitelský sbor a na způsob jejich přepravy do vlasti. Hesla mají standardní formu, přičemž na sebe vzájemně odkazují. Text je doplněn několika stovkami dobových fotografií a dvěma desítkami map. Podobně jako u předcházející publikace, ta dnešní si klade za cíl obsahovou orientaci čtenáře ve velmi složitém a dynamickém období jednoho z nikoli nevýznamných prvků našich národních dějin.

A mai napig él a köztudatban a vélekedés, hogy Magyarországon 1944-ben senki nem tudott semmit a náci haláltáborokban zajló népirtásról és annak eszközeiről, a gázkamrákról. Ennek egyértelmű cáfolata, hogy a BBC a második világháború minden egyes napján többször sugározott magyar nyelvű adást, még ha azok nem is juthattak el a teljes lakossághoz.
A Londonból érkező üzenetek próbáltak hatni a zsidók üldözésében részt vevő magyarokra, egyrészt hivatkozva keresztény értékrendjükre, országuk gazdag kultúrájára és történelmére, másrészt kilátásba helyezve a háború utáni felelősségre vonásukat. Ám a megsemmisítő táborokról szóló információkat erőteljesen torzította a hazai sajtó masszív ellenpropagandája, amely hiteltelennek bélyegezte az angliai híradásokat, azzal vádolva a szövetségeseket, hogy nem is a zsidó életeket féltik, hanem a gazdag zsidók mesés vagyonát szeretnék megszerezni, a felelősségre vonást a zsidók bosszújaként jelenítette meg, a népirtás vádját pedig megfordította, és a városok bombázását a szövetségesek mögött álló zsidók tervének állította be.
Az Auschwitz-kód a kortársak naplóinak elemzésével egészíti ki a brit rádióadások és a hazai szélsőjobboldali sajtó cikkeinek vizsgálatát, rávilágítva arra, hogy bár a hírek azokhoz is eljuthattak, akik nem hallgattak rádiót, a már akkor is létező információs káoszban még a tájékozottabbak esetében is egyéni érzékenység, és nem utolsó sorban az üldözöttek csoportjához való tartozás függvénye volt, hogy hitelt adtak-e a halálgyárakról szóló híreknek, vagy képtelenségben tartották a zsidók tömeges elgázosítását.
