Carlos Drummond de Andrade patrí k najväčším osobnostiam brazílskej literatúry a zároveň je považovaný za najvýznamnejšieho národného básnika 20. storočia. Popularita jeho poézie trvá dodnes, pretože sa sústreďuje na otázky, ktoré sú nanajvýš aktuálne: rutina a všednosť existencie brazílskych veľkomiest, odcudzenie, nostalgické spomienky na dospievanie, samota a ľudské vzťahy. Bol majstrom v zachytávaní všedných, každodenných okamihov, ktoré transformoval na výpovede o hlbších témach ľudskej existencie. Jeho štýl je známy iróniou a humorom.
