The preoccupations of Sean O’Brien’s work have for many of us become newly pressing: the recurrence of history, the shadow of war, the precariousness of a peacetime that can no longer be taken for granted. The Bonfire Party, Forward Prize winner Sean O’Brien’s twelfth poetry collection, takes its title from Eric Ravilious’s 1930s painting, where some revellers watch the flames, while others feed them or run towards them, in a scene of ‘mythic Englishness’. In these poems, the long view afforded by experience results in a truer representation of our predicament and a regretful understanding of human culpability. Just as times and places flow together to create a shifting, at times visionary perspective, so too do the presences of those we have lost, ‘love and death consorting as they must’. In a central sequence – a departure for O’Brien – he writes into the rich imaginative climate of George Simenon’s Maigret novels. The latest volume of the acclaimed and magisterial Hopkins Press edition of Percy Bysshe Shelley's poetry, covering the years 1818 to early 1820, the first phase of Shelley's Italian period. "You talk Utopia," says the worldly Count Maddalo, reproaching the idealistic Julian in Julian and Maddalo. Inspired by conversations conducted on horseback near Venice between the two notorious exiled poets, Shelley and Byron, this poem was among the first of the masterpieces that Shelley wrote after moving with his family in March 1818 from England to post-Napoleonic Italy. The fourth volume of the Hopkins Complete Poetry of Percy Bysshe Shelley covers the years 1818–19 and part of 1820, when Britain was convulsed by popular agitation for the reform of Parliament and stifled by repressive laws against free speech. Among its other contents are The Cenci, an indictment of tyranny, domestic and political, probably the most actable of Romantic dramas; The Mask of Anarchy, the "greatest poem of political protest ever written in English" (too inflammatory to be published at the time); Peter Bell the Third, a brilliant satire on Wordsworth; the fiery sonnet "England in 1819"; an eclogue for women's voices (Rosalind and Helen); playful, sophisticated songs ("Love's Philosophy") and sad verses ("Stanzas, Written in dejection"). Shelley's publications received slashing reviews from politically motivated critics, who attacked his character and principles but acknowledged his poetic gifts. He broadened his scope and composed the most politically engaged poems of his maturity. To quote a Victorian editor, he "ceased to be a subject of Time, and became a citizen of Eternity."As in previous volumes, meticulously edited texts are accompanied by discussions of the poems' composition, the influences they reflect, their publication, reception, and critical history, and detailed records of textual variants. Appendixes range from Mary Shelley's editorial notes to jottings by Shelley drawn from a hitherto unrecognized source for The Cenci. Readers will find in volume four original research, fresh readings, new contexts, and discoveries—hallmarks of this acclaimed edition. Volumes 5, 6, and 8 are in preparation.

Tance traumy & márnosti (Diabolské litánie)
Gerbocova báseň je drsná alúzia na takmer zabudnutú knihu Sebastiana Drosteho a Barbary Berberovej z roku 1923 a na postavy týchto prorockých berlínskych kabaretných performerov. Alúzia plná mystifikácií a proklamatívnych vyhlásení, drzá, neúctivá a krutá… a zvláštne pôsobivá. Táto takmer 60-stranová báseň začína poznámkou: „Celý text musíš prečítať na jedenkrát bez prestávky bez možnosti nádychu rýchlo a nervne neusporiadano drzo cynicky s vybitým zubom s hrdzavou podliatinou po náhlej facke a na tvári maska-úsmev!” Gerboc ju písal medzi rokmi 2009 a 2025 ako spektakulárne inscenované predstavenie, ako báseň nerešpektujúcu vlastné hranice, báseň ako teroristický útok, báseň ignorujúcu očakávanú štruktúru básne, báseň s fotografickým sprievodom, notovými partitúrami a filozofickými poznámkami skúmajúcimi možnosti reči. Nemožnosť nádychu, politika tela, sex a tma, spektákel premeny tiel a bizarný scenár natáčania klipu pre dospelých obklopeného hrôzou lágrov a intimitou súkromných honosných sídel. Je to báseň, ktorá kašle na nepripraveného čitateľa. A hlavne žiadny oddych! Tak dýchaj, kým máš kedy. (Báseň vychádza v noci z 31. decembra 2025 na 1. januára 2026.)

Immár huszonötödik éve jelenik meg népszerű antológiánk, amely alapkötete a Költészet Napján, április 11-én megrendezésre kerülő, rendkívül sikeres Versmaratonnak. Az év versei - Az év novellái című kötettel együtt - a magyar irodalmi élet színe-javát tárja az olvasók elé. Ahogy a borász válogatja szemenként a szőlőt, azzal a gonddal és szeretettel készül ez a reprezentatív gyűjtemény. Hagyományainkhoz híven a kötet mintegy negyven magyarországi és határon túli magyar folyóirat közlése alapján az elmúlt év legjobb verseiből nyújt színvonalas, sokoldalú válogatást. A kötetben idén 94 költő szerepel, a legidősebb a 95 éves Czigány György, a legfiatalabb pedig a 25 éves Usier Tamara.
In Flaming Letters
A treasury of poetry and prose from an unsung trailblazer of Black literature Lucia M. Pitts ( 1904-1973) was an African American writer and Army veteran whose story has never been told. Her poetry, including love lyrics of striking sensuality and honesty, was admired by Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, and Dorothy West. Her work first appeared during the Harlem Renaissance, influenced by Harriet Monroe's Poetry magazine and blues singers Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith. A native of Chicago's Bronzeville, Pitts challenged discrimination and segregation throughout her remarkable life, both as a member of President Franklin Roosevelt's 'Black Cabinet' and as the first African American woman employed at the War Department. Then, in 1943, Pitts joined the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the Army's only all-Black, all-female battalion, which later received the Congressional Gold Medal. Pitts's own account of her service with the Six Triple Eight, however, has remained unpublished until now. This volume brings together a biography of Pitts, her complete military memoir, and one hundred of her finest poems.
Útek nádeje / The Flight of Hope (obojstranná kniha)
Básnická poéma v štyroch jazykových mutáciách, ktorej súčasťou je zvukový záznam na CD, je venovaná Ondrejovi Čaneckému z dediny Skalité pri poľsko-slovenských hraniciach. Pred vyše osemdesiatimi rokmi Ondrej Čanecký prvý na území Slovenska pomohol dvom mladým Židom Alfrédovi Wetzlerovi a Rudolfovi Vrbovi pri úteku z nemeckého koncentračného tábora v Osvienčime-Brezinke. Jeho zásluhou sa dostali do Žiliny a vydali svedectvo, vďaka ktorému sa zachránilo vyše 200 tisíc Židov. Príbeh Wetzlera a Vrbu bol viac razy spracovaný vedecky, filmovo a formou literatúry faktu. Doteraz ale nebol stvárnený poeticky, o to je poéma Jozefa Leikerta vzácnejšia.

Autorova najnovšia básnická zbierka je čiastočne rekapitulácia, čiastočne ironický pohľad básnika na jeho osobnú ako aj na všeobecnú prítomnosť. Štrasser, ako to býva v poslednom čase jeho zvykom, vyjadruje svoj postoj k realite účinnou básnickou skratkou. Aj vďaka tomu je vtipný, niekedy až briskný. Je to typický Štrasser ako ho máme radi: rozosmeje, ale zároveň nastaví také zrkadlo, v ktorom sa nevidíme veľmi radi. Na obálku sme použili obraz Mira Cipára, dizajn a zalomenie Matúš Chalupa.

Drawn to Hammershoi''s paintings of the empty rooms of his apartment, the speaker recognises a familiar space of art''s insistence.
