HRANICA MEDZI NÁDEJOU A SEBAKLAMOM SLOVENSKÉHO KLASIKA
Nemýlia sa tí, ktorí v básnikovi Miroslavovi Válkovi (1927 – 1991) vidia deziluzívneho analytika ľudskej situácie. Ako analytik preukazoval zmysel nielen pre veci skryté, ale aj pre tie skrývané, ktoré ľudia nechcú ukazovať pred inými. Možno preto, lebo sa to nesluší, ale určite tiež preto, že by tým odhalili svoje zraniteľné miesta. A hoci Válek začínal očarený krásou a duchovnosťou sveta, pribúdajúcimi skúsenosťami sa z ilúzií o láske, dobre či spravodlivosti nedobrovoľne vyliečil...
Ján Gavura
Miroslav Válek (1927 – 1991) vydal básnické zbierky Dotyky (1959), Príťažlivosť (1961), Nepokoj (1963) a Milovanie v husej koži (1965), ku ktorým neskôr pribudla poéma Slovo (1976). Ďalšia Válkova bibliografia odráža paradoxnosť doby a výnimočnosť autorovho postavenia v slovenskej literatúre a kultúre. Jeho tvorba sa stala predmetom početných reedícií a výberov, do ktorých boli doplnené básne z autorových začiatkov (známe tiež ako výber Domáca úloha a cyklus Zápalky), ako aj dva rozsiahle cykly zo záveru básnikovej tvorby (Obrazáreň a Z vody). Aktuálne vydanie v Luxusnej knižnici vychádza z edície Miroslav Válek Básnické dielo (Kalligram – Ústav slovenskej literatúry SAV, Bratislava, 2005, ed. Valér Mikula) a Miroslav Válek Domáca úloha (FACE – Fórum alternatívnej kultúry a vzdelávania, 2018, ed. Peter Tollarovič).
Looting Hummingbirds
In the first quarter of the 20th century, Daniel Thaly of Dominica, then a British Caribbean colony, was one of France’s most celebrated poets. He was educated in Martinique and then at medical school in France before returning to Dominica. His illustrious reputation crumbled when radicals in the emerging anti-colonial Negritude movement criticised his work. From then on he wrote little. Here for the first time in English (and French) we can read a selection of his lyrical and passionate poems - many about Dominica - alongside an introduction that pieces together what little is known of his life.

V poradí druhá básnická kniha slovensko-americkej poetky Oľgy Urminskej, ktorá po emigrácii žila v amerických alternatívnych, hippie komunitách je výberom jej básní z archívu zo 70. a 80. rokov v preklade Samuela Vahovského. Poézia z tohto obdobia, časť ktorej bola publikovaná v amerických časopisoch a zborníkoch, reflektuje jej rebelský, nonkonformný a nezávislý život v týchto komunitách. Ale predovšetkým skúsenosť materstva, afirmáciu ženského tela, akými to aktuálne robila americká druhá vlna feminizmu či beat poézia – návratom k vytesneným formám rytmu, zariekavania či opakovania. Druhá časť knihy pod názvom „Jeden deň v živote umelkyne“ predstavuje civilnejšie ladené básne, ktoré ukazujú na jej neskoršie snahy popísať jedinečnosť umeleckého procesu, zachytávajú ju ako poetku aj maliarku.
Unrest in the Nebulae
In unrest in the nebulae, Gitan Djeli wields prose poetry to archive five hundred years of exploitative colonization, ecocide, extinction, militarization and deportation, slavery, indenture, negotiated nationhood, postcolonial plantation structures, and apologist histories. Writing in a queer anticolonial poetics, and using lines of Kreol, Gitan Djeli mines the tension that emerges between colonialism and language, disarticulating the myth-making aesthetics of the colonial world. She tells the story of the ‘other slavery’ in the Indian Ocean and its histories of enslavement and indenture through a subversive, fragmented poetics, and often from the perspective its geologic witnesses – a misnamed ocean or the range of mountains within it or the volcanic idea of islands. In a charge of resistance to the catastrophe of modernity, unrest in the nebulae takes seriously Sylvia Wynter’s invitation to engage “a new science of the word.”
