Vejdi do psaní celým tělem.

The Worrying Rose

Katharine Towers has long been widely acclaimed for the intricate musicality of her poems and for their almost spiritual attentiveness to the natural world. In The Worrying Rose, her fourth collection, Towers invokes the radical act of being still in a world that seems to be dizzyingly out of control. Unfolding from Samuel Barber’s Hermit Songs cycle – influenced in turn by the anonymous writings of early Irish scribes and anchorites – The Worrying Rose distils Towers’ thinking about women, creativity and solitude: nuns and female hermits sit alongside the pioneering genius of Ada Lovelace, while the voices of such writers and artists as Nan Shepherd and Maggi Hambling are harnessed to explore the creative state of being alone. Just as the speaker in one of these poems goes ‘into the woods and closes the door’, readers of Katharine Towers’ exquisitely phrased and meditative collection will find themselves in a song-filled, resonant space. The Worrying Rose exemplifies Katharine Towers’ extraordinary musical intelligence, and attests to an almost spiritual attentiveness to the natural world. ‘Katharine Towers is one of the most original and gifted poets now writing. Her brilliant book is something no other could do, “an outburst of words” so old and English and fresh’ – Conor O’Callaghan

Poems

'His writing is not about something; it is that something itself' Samuel Beckett James Joyce's towering genius as a novelist has often overshadowed his achievements as a poet, yet his verse occupies a pivotal position in his career. This new edition comprises all the poetry that was published in Joyce's lifetime, including his highly accomplished 1907 debut Chamber Music, which fused exuberant lyricism with sharp irony, and the later collection Pomes Penyeach, which confronted adultery, jealousy and betrayal. Also included here are the satirical poems 'The Holy Office' and 'Gas from a Burner', and 'Ecce Puer', written for his new-born grandson. With a new introduction and notes by Clare Hutton.

The Door-to-Door Poet

A madcap literary mission across England‘A book that knocks on doors of language, of possibility, of love and of humanity. Open your door and let this book in ... it’s as though the angel of poetry has written a knock knock joke that finds its way to your heart’ Ian McMillanWhat would you do if a stranger knocked on your door and offered to write you a poe? owan McCabe wanted to find out. In doing so, he became the world’s first Door-to-Door Poet. He banged on people’s doors and asked what was important to them. He then went away and wrote a poem about it, free of charge, which he brought back and performed on their doorstep. Rowan tried the project with his neighbours in Newcastle upon Tyne. Emboldened to find that nobody punched him in the face, he then set out on a tour of England, knocking on the doors of Moss Side in Manchester, Jaywick in Essex, the remote island of Lundy and many places in between. This book is a funny and uplifting account of that journey. It tells the stories of the residents Rowan met and is punctuated by the thoughtful and often laugh-out-loud poetry that he wrote for them. The Door-to-Door Poet is a joyful and compelling portrayal of one very unusual mission and the many and varied voices that make up a nation.

Render

Render plunges the reader into the vibrant setting of Barcelona in the second half of the twentieth century. A compelling character study, the book is presented as the collected works of a fictional poet: Alberto Cenas, the lonely scion of a wealthy Catalan family. Taken individually, Render's poems offer piercing insights into the exuberance of youth, the disillusionment of early adulthood, inherited trauma, creativity, ageing and finality. Collectively, the book delivers the immersive experience of a concept album or an existentialist film, creating a complex portrait of a strange and sympathetic figure.

The Beat the Pulse the Wave

Life comes at you in waves, sometimes they carry you to new shores, sometimes you risk drowning in the flood. Life is a pulse, a heart pumping the blood of now and the blood memories of the past and of your ancestors. Life is a beat, a dance, a festival where you watch Portishead in a field as the sun sets. Life is the rhythm of all three together, it is the beat, the pulse, the wave that brings you to this moment. Jeremy Dixon pauses to consider and celebrate that which was, that which is and that which could be.

Sparrow on the Rooftop

Rachel Long’s vivid new collection is a study of toxic love, crisis and recovery, at once moving and whip-smart, from one of our brightest stars in poetry. 'At first you eat less because you’re happy, / so fricking happy, the way you are in high summer / when you just can’t because of the sun.' Sparrow on the Rooftop tells a story of new love: the summer-like giddiness of it, the ferocity of obsession, and the stark hollowing of absence. Alongside this affair, and unleashed by its intensity, unfolds another story, half-buried, about our young narrator’s uneasy relationship with her body: ‘Black girls// don’t get/ eating disorders./ That’s a white girl/ thing.’ Desire, indulgence, denial, and transformation are some of the themes that animate this engrossing, at times frighteningly intimate, narrative collection. With fierce wit and uncommon insight, Sparrow interrogates the self and other, and the experience of self as other. These remarkable, penetrating, headlong poems chart disorder and desire, break-up and breakdown, and the hard path towards recovery, confirming Rachel Long as one of the most gifted poets of her generation.

Killing Spree

Jorie Graham has long used her remarkably self-renewing gifts to confront the threats posed to the planet and to our humanity. Her recent work – collected in [To]The Last [Be] Human – followed by the acclaimed To 2040 – constitute a wake-up call regarding the ecological, technological, spiritual and political risks we face in the ‘new world’ we are creating. Graham now speaks to that world in 2026, with particular focus on the forces of destruction we have unleashed across the globe. Urgent and unflinching, these poems test how the human spirit might endure under conditions set to undo it. Killing Spree is a book of vigilance and resistance, insisting that imagination and love remain forces of survival. Here, at the height of her powers, Graham offers not consolation but clarity, guiding us through catastrophe toward what cannot be taken from us. One of the most celebrated living American poets – winner of the Forward Prize 2012 and Pulitzer Prize for Poetry 1996 – presents a poetry against numbness, insisting on the need to understand, respond to and act upon political reality in her new collection, as confrontationally titled as it is scrupulously crafted.

The Coffin Path

The poems in this volume were mostly written about a remote valley to the far west of Cornwall, in the area of West Penwith, which forms a granite near-island at the very tip of the country. The poet meditates on the continuity of memory in a landscape scarred by past industry and changing habitat, where the layers of history and geology are randomly strewn across its rugged topography and mortality is embodied in megaliths, walls and rocks of its ancient landscape. “West Penwith is a granite bastion jutting out into the Atlantic, ringed by seaswept high cliffs. The coastline is irregular and complex, indented by many small, intimate coves and narrow inlets known locally as ‘zawns’. The higher ground is predominantly moorland and rough pasture with a rugged and remote character. It has a simple land use pattern of wind-swept, rock-strewn heaths, ancient field systems and settlements, with frequent remains of a bygone mining industry clearly evident. The settlements have an austere and simple architecture which make good use of the hard local stone and slate. The coast dominates this landscape and provides the background and influence for many of the activities. This higher northern section of the plateau is dominated by a north-facing heath-covered ridge sloping down through a farmed coastal plain and a narrow strip of coastal heath to steep cliffs that plunge into the Atlantic. The landscape is criss-crossed by narrow lanes and tracks. The high granite cliffs rise up in great columnar steps and blocks. These are considered to be some of the most magnificent cliffs in Britain.”

Thinking Through Shakespeare

How Shakespeare’s exploration of central human questions—about identity, politics, religion and right and wrong—explains his lasting power, popularity and relevanceIn the eighteenth century, Samuel Johnson famously argued that Shakespeare is enduringly popular because he “is above all writers, at least above all modern writers, the poet of nature; the poet that holds up to his readers a faithful mirror of manners and of life.” Johnson’s view largely prevailed until the late twentieth century, when it was challenged by a growing scepticism about the existence of a general human nature. In Thinking Through Shakespeare, eminent literary critic David Womersley pushes back against this change by exploring how Shakespeare’s plays think through—and invite us to think through—deep human questions of lasting importance. Thinking Through Shakespeare explores four perennial human problems: personal identity, the distinction between civilization and barbarism, the relation between political power and religious authority and the tension between means and ends. It examines the history of these problems, from antiquity to today, and traces how Shakespeare engages with them in the great tragedies—Othello, Hamlet, Macbeth and King Lear—but also in his other plays. Without arguing that human nature is universal or unchanging, or that Shakespeare has some special access to timeless wisdom, the book makes the case that his drama is powerful because it serves as a forensic tool, probing rival perspectives on questions that have preoccupied many people in many societies over many centuries. By revealing in new ways how Shakespeare’s plays are animated and driven by central human problems, and why he should again be viewed as the great poet of human nature, Thinking Through Shakespeare opens up a richer understanding and appreciation of his work.

Dream Logic

Last night I dreamt I was Emily BronteI was hanging linen on the line, washed the old-fashioned way ... Lost moments and memories provide a window onto a time before the present, a place where the past is full and vivid yet never quite within reach. This is a search for something missing but unknown, a farewell without being certain it is goodbye. Satya Bosman sets out on a journey through myth and relationships, interior lives and everyday moments, carrying an alluring feeling of connection that lingers on the edge of the senses as we ask - is this where I belong? Full of longing, Dream Logic opens the space between loss and renewal, where the idea of what might have been weaves through real memory, and becomes just as powerful. *Praise for Satya Bosman* ‘[Satya Bosman] brings to this debutthe assurance of a poet attuned to nuance and silence … Lyrical yetgrounded, Dream Logic invites readers to linger in the spaces betweenthings — where absence hums with meaning, and where the boundaries between thereal and the remembered dissolve into something tender, uncertain, and true’ – The Madrid Review  'Funny and odd and charming ... This felt alive, it carried me along and left me wanting more' - Ella Frears, judge of the Kent & Sussex Poetry Society Annual Folio Competition 2025 on her prize-winning entry About the Author:Satya Bosman is the founder and co-editor of the Black Cat Poetry Press. Yiewsley

A spirited and stirring return to the poet's boyhood and the town that made himThis autobiographical collection candidly explores Daljit Nagra's experiences growing up from the sixties to the eighties in the predominantly white working-class town of Yiewsley, close to Heathrow airport in Outer London. As Britain transitions from a post-war manufacturing economy to the Thatcher years and the computer age, we see a young boy navigating childhood friendships and mishaps. The poems bring to life a bustling house filled with relatives from India, who had arrived, legally or otherwise, in the UK: 'devout realists already, and always, knuckled into work'. They also offer powerful insight into the makings of the writer: the 'messy English' at home fusing with Bollywood ballads, Top of the Pops and hymns at school, to develop a voice entirely his own. '[Nagra's poems] do that rare thing in poetry of stretching language, making it do things it hasn't done before. It's multiculturalism at its most complex, individual and real.' Scotland on Sunday'A book of guts and heart, an honest, often polemical collection that posits worn-on-the-sleeve, personal and public questions without implying simple answers.' Against Gravity

Against Gravity: the title alludes to our struggle with mortality as we age and, by contrast, the pleasures of play, imagination, creativity. Robert Saxton’s latest poetry book is dedicated to a friend whose heart gave out on a Scottish mountain. But in counterpoint to the elegaic, it offers humour too, often with dark overtones. The subject matter is wide-ranging – from the late Queen to the pitfalls of indexing, from Nero’s theatre to trouser suits for modern brides, from a bat roost in a Portuguese library to the Hollywood Sign. The book concludes with a visit to Vita Sackvillle-West’s garden at Sissinghurst, exploring intergenerational friendship as well as Vita’s visionary genius and unconventional love life. Wherever his focus falls, Saxton shows accomplished craftsmanship and an eye for telling detail, with surprises on every page.

Mer de Glace

In 2021, Malgorzata Lebda ran the entire length of the longest river in Poland, the Vistula, from its source in the Beskid Mountains to its mouth at the Baltic Sea – a distance of 1,113 kilometres. She set out to run as a poet, not as an athlete, to use the rhythms of her own body as a means of understanding and connecting to the rhythms of the river’s body of water, under threat of environmental ruin. Mer de Glace, which won the Szymborska Award, is the introduction to her remarkable journey. A profound meditation on the porosity, reactivity and receptivity of both the body and the natural world, the collection reveals their deep interdependence.
