Umění a emancipace
Kniha Umění a emancipace je v českém prostředí prvním uceleným pokusem vyrovnat se s odkazem významného polského intelektuála, jehož myšlenky zůstávají podnětné nejen na poli dějin moderního a současného umění. Piotr Piotrowski (1952—2015) se stal celosvětově uznávaným teoretikem díky své koncepci horizontálních – tedy nehierarchicky pojatých – dějin umění, inspirovaných marxistickou a feministickou tradicí. Předkládaný výbor obsahuje texty z let 1998 až 2013; jde jak o samostatně publikované studie, tak o kapitoly z několika Piotrowského knih. Autor v nich tematizuje mocenské, zejména geopolitické vztahy, v nichž umění vzniká a v nichž se píší i jeho dějiny. Odmítá nekritické přejímání západní perspektivy, ať již ve vztahu k bývalému sovětskému bloku, nebo dalším světovým periferiím a marginalizovaným kulturám. V té souvislosti se věnuje také otázkám postkoloniálních studií a zpochybňuje jejich aplikaci na situaci postkomunistických zemí. Dalším tématem knihy je idea kritického muzea, kterou Piotrowski důsledně zastával i ve svém veřejném působení, kde narážela na požadavky konzervativní politiky. Výbor je doplněn dvěma rozhovory a úvodem od Agaty Jakubowske a Magdaleny Radomske, které dnes v díle svého učitele pokračují.

Tete a tete o francúzskom umení (I) do roku 1789
Francúzske umenie prešlo do roku 1789 zložitým vývojom. Špecifický charakter nadobudlo v stredoveku, keď sa medzi múrmi kláštorov zrodila gotika. Nasledovala Škola Fontainebleau (16. storočie) sformovaná na kráľovskom dvore a Francúzska škola (17. a 18. storočie), rozvíjaná v prostredí Kráľovskej akadémie. Francúzske transfery sa uskutočňovali vojenskými a cirkevnými cestami. Nové myšlienky podnietili kultúrnu výmenu v rámci Európy. Svedčia o tom diela v Svätom Antone, Spišskej Kapitule, na Krásnej Hôrke, Červenom Kameni, v Slovenskej národnej galérii v Bratislave či Východoslovenskej galérii v Košiciach. Kniha je bedekrom francúzskeho umenia na Slovensku.
Historička umenia PhDr. Marta Herucová, Ph.D. pochádza zo starej bratislavskej rodiny. Študovala na univerzitách v Bratislave a v Olomouci. Pracuje na Ústave dejín umenia Centra vied o umení Slovenskej akadémie vied. Publikovala desiatky prác zameraných na identifikačné, ikonografické a interpretačné problémy, napr. o buste Cecílie Gonzagy v Levoči (Paríž 2021), Fantacchiottiho soche anjela v Stupave (Florencia 2021), orientálnych obrazoch v Topoľčiankach (Oxford 2020), umení okolo roku 1800 na Slovensku (Opava 2019) a ďalších. Knižní studie se věnuje tématu kaligrafických inspirací v kontextu světových a českých dějin umění. Inspirace v oblasti čínské nebo japonské kaligrafie totiž výraznou měrou přispěly k rozvoji mezioborových přístupů, zejména v souvislosti s hledáním společných východisek malířské a básnické tvorby, ale také v prolínání výtvarného umění s hudební, taneční nebo filmovou oblastí. A Tom of Finland sketchbook, with preparatory drawings that reveal his painstaking craftsmanship
Positioned at something of an angle to art history, Tom of Finland (1920-91) nonetheless counts among the popular artists of the latter 20th century. Through his iconic images, he almost singlehandedly changed the way gay men were perceived by society, and, more importantly, how gay men perceived themselves. The massive oeuvre that he produced over the course of a career spanning nearly six decades is devoted almost entirely to this one topic: men, their bodies and their eroticism. This extraordinary consistency in subject matter was matched by a lifelong passion for the discipline of drawing. And Tom most likely drew every day of his life.

But what about the ones who remained in Germany? Under what social and economic conditions did they focus on their art and what options for activity were open to them?
For artists who did not conform to the system, the years of National Socialism were an era of standstill and isolation. They are the fruit of the traditional yet highly successful collaboration between artist, publisher, block-cutter and printer. It is not so much in their subject matter as their visual language that shin hanga prints set themselves apart from their traditional precursors. Where the classically depicted women were stylized and idealized, their more recent counterparts are based on real models, individually recognizable and full of emotion. The modern landscapes, meanwhile, are impressionistic rather than figurative, using a range of color nuances to achieve highly atmospheric results. This book offers a unique selection with which to explore 20th-century Japanese printmaking. The prints it reproduces are mostly drawn from two large private collections, and, by way of great exception, items from the family collection of the publisher Watanabe, the man who started it all.
