A wide-ranging look at surrealist and postsurrealist engagements with the culture and imagery of childhood
We all have memories of the object-world of childhood. For many of us, playthings and images from those days continue to resonate. Rereading a swathe of modern and contemporary artistic production through the lens of its engagement with childhood, this book blends in-depth art historical analysis with sustained theoretical exploration of topics such as surrealist temporality, toys, play, nostalgia, memory, and 20th-century constructions of the child. The result is an entirely new approach to the surrealist tradition via its engagement with "childish things." Providing what the author describes as a "long history of surrealism," this book plots a trajectory from surrealism itself to the art of the 1980s and 1990s, through to the present day. Derek Sayer ve své monumentální knize Praha, hlavní město dvacátého století skládá střípky kulturních dějin Prahy a Československa mezi dvěma světovými válkami, aby ukázal, jak zapadají do mozaiky evropských dějin. V jednom fragmentu dějin umění se často zrcadlí celá meziválečná situace. Události v Sayerově Praze se jeví jako úryvky z prorockých snů předznamenávajících události evropského či světového významu. Sny avantgardy se v tomto prostoru snadno překlápějí do těch nejhorších nočních můr dvacátého století, a naopak, kruté žerty dějin se z odstupu jeví jako příklady černého humoru doprovázené osvobozujícím smíchem. V Sayerově knize čtenář prochází tkanivem meziválečné Prahy, tak jako spáč ve snu prochází noční krajinou, v níž se mu objevují fragmenty jeho vlastních dějin, jeho zklamání i touhy.
Praha byla ve dvacátém století svědkem revolucí a invazí, národního osvobození a etnických čistek, holocaustu, soudních procesů a snů o socialismu s lidská tvář. V době, kdy Praha byla hlavním městem nejvýchodnější parlamentní demokracie v Evropě, byla také ohniskem umělecké a architektonické moderny a centrem surrealismu hned za Paříží.
Se zaměřením na tyto roky zkoumá Sayer pražské velkolepé moderní budovy, památky, obrazy, knihy, filmy, opery, výstavy a mnoho dalšího. Praha byla místem, kde se utopické fantazie století opakovaně rozplývaly, a jako taková byla šitá na míru surrealistickému černému humoru André Bretona. Sayer hovoří o tom, jak město produkovalo bezkonkurenční znalce ponuré komedie, od Franze Kafky a Jaroslava Haška po Milana Kunderu a Václava Havla.

Kniha na viac ako 150 stranách približuje dielo významného maďarského pamiatkara a reštaurátora Istvána Gróha (1867 – 1936), ktorý koncom 19. a začiatkom 20. storočia odkryl viaceré významné nástenné maľby v stredovekých chrámoch vtedajšieho Uhorska, vrátane Koceľoviec, Ochtinej, Štítnika, Rimavskej Bane či Šivetíc.
Veľký význam pre odborníkov majú jeho dokumentačné kópie odkrytých fresiek, ktoré patria dodnes medzi základné pramene umeleckohistorického výskumu. Knižná novinka z pera P. Budaya prináša veľkú časť z nich v rozsiahlejj obrazovej prílohe.
Liturgický textil a způsoby jeho prezentace
Metodika přímo navazuje na předchozí metodiku s názvem Liturgické textilie a jejich památková ochrana, přičemž se zaměřuje na specifika prezentace textilií v památkově chráněných objektech (např. zámeckých kaplích) včetně zdůraznění jejich liturgické funkce (druhová skladba, církevní slavnosti). U parament s druhotně využitými světskými textiliemi jde o identifikaci jejich původní funkce a zařazení do širších kulturních souvislostí a doplnění o obrazovou dokumentaci (např. analogické vzory na šlechtických portrétech) a o zdůraznění didaktické funkce prezentace vůči návštěvníkům. Součástí metodiky jsou také shrnující kapitoly o dějinách muzejní prezentace. Další kapitoly se věnují praktickým otázkám (světelná intenzita, vlhkost, různé způsoby prezentace a jejich specifika, výhody a nevýhody, včetně přímé konfrontace se zahraničními přístupy).

Cennino Cennini (1360 - 1427) bol renesančný taliansky maliar, do dnešných dní je známy hlavne ako autor literárneho diela "Kniha o umení" (Il libro dell`arte), ktorú napísal niekedy koncom 14. storočia a je to kniha o dobovej tehnológii maľby. Obsahuje informácie a výrobné postupy o pigmentoch, štetcoch, kresliacich potrebách, maľbe obrazov a umenia fresky.
Cennini vytvoril praktický manuál pre dobového adepta umenia, plný dobrých rád a praktických technologických návodov a odporúčaní. Cenniniho kniha je ojedinelým svedectvom o stredovekom umení, na pomedzí stredoveku a rodiacej sa renesancie. O technológii maľby, žiarlivo stráženej v každej maliarskej dielni, každého majstra, ktorá sa odovzdávala učňom po kvapkách, počas dlhých rokov učňovskej výuky. Kniha je výnimočná nielen morálnymi ponaučeniami, ale hlavne praktickými technologickými radami, popisom materiálov a miestami aj vtipnými postrehmi.
