Lieb Ferenc. Egy rokokó festő Felső-Magyarországon
Lieb Ferenc új szereplő a 18. századi magyarországi művészet történetében: kastélyok és templomok rokokó falképeinek a közelmúltban azonosított mestere. A gazdagon illusztrált kismonográfia bemutatja az Iglóról Miskolcra, majd Leleszre vándorolt festő eddig megismert életművét, középpontban az edelényi kastély nemrég restaurált kifestésével. Lieb jelentős munkái még a monoki Andrássy-kastély, a tőketerebesi pálos rendi templom és a taktabáji református templom fal- és mennyezetképei az 1770-es, 1780-as évekből. A falképek stílusa, technikája, dokumentumértéke külön fejezetet kapott a könyvben, akárcsak az alkotó családjával, megbízatásaival kapcsolatos levéltári források közlése. Az eredeti tehetségű, vidéki festőről még korántsem tudunk mindent, ám díszítő- és mesélő kedve, jellegzetes figurái, derűs színvilága személyessé és vonzóvá teszik művészetét.
A 160 oldalas könyvet 174 kép illusztrálja, a többségük Batár Zsolt felvétele.
A szerző művészettörténész, a barokk kor kutatója. Johann Lucas Kracker bécsi születésű, Egerbe települt festőről írott monográfiáját a budapesti Enciklopédia Kiadó jelentette meg 2004-ben magyar és német nyelven.

Kniha Zuzany Dzurňákovej s názvom Úvod do novodobej emblematiky a príklady aplikovaných emblémov v Trnave sa venuje, v slovenskej umenovede, pomerne okrajovej tematike, a to emblémom, ktoré sú špecifickou umeleckou formou, nakoľko sa ich forma skladá z textovej a obrazovej časti. Sú dôležitým ikonografickým a ikonologickým prameňom, zvlášť potrebným pre poznanie dobovej barokovej kultúry. Autorka sa zameriava na pre ňu známe prostredie mesta Trnavy, kde nachádzame pomerne značné zastúpenie príkladov aplikovaných emblémov, čo viac-menej súviselo s faktom existencie historickej Trnavskej univerzity a jej tlačiarne, vďaka čomu boli prítomné aj knihy emblémov, slúžiace pre ich následnú aplikáciu na freskách a obrazoch. Práve tie sa pokúsila autorka analyzovať a interpretovať v širšom výtvarnom a kultúrno-historickom kontexte a poukázať na ich výnimočné postavenie v dejinách barokového umenia.

Basquiat
The legend of Jean-Michel Basquiat is as strong as ever. Synonymous with New York in the 1980s, the artist first appeared in the late 1970s under the tag name SAMO, spraying caustic comments and fragmented poems on the walls of the city. He appeared as part of a thriving underground scene of visual arts and graffiti, hip hop, post-punk, and DIY filmmaking, which met in a booming art world.
As a painter with a strong personal voice, Basquiat soon broke into the established milieu, exhibiting in galleries around the world.Basquiat's expressive style was based on raw figures and integrated words and phrases. His work is inspired by a pantheon of luminaries from jazz, boxing, and basketball, with references to arcane history and the politics of street life-so when asked about his subject matter, Basquiat answered "royalty, heroism and the streets." In 1983 he started collaborating with the most famous of art stars, Andy Warhol, and in 1985 was on the cover of The New York Times Magazine. Menné a vecné encyklopedické heslá nám odkrývajú cenné informácie zo všetkých oblastí tanečného umenia ľudového, klasického tanca a baletu, moderného i súčasného tanca.

Prostory zjevnosti
Předkládané stati tvoří sice soubor samostatných studií, přesto jsou alespoň trochu provázané – pokoušejí se z fenomenologického hlediska prozkoumat způsob, jak může skrze výtvarné dílo vyvstat zjevnost jsoucího. Sborníček vznikl na laskavý popud vydavatele, jehož si velmi vážím. Obsahuje texty, které už byly publikovány (podrobnější údaje nalezne čtenář v ediční poznámce). Protože však šlo o publikace v německém jazyce nebo v méně dostupných edicích, bude snad mít jejich nové sebrání pro čtenáře přece nějaký další užitek.

Psychoanalyst Meets Marina Abramovic
In summer 2015, performance artist Marina Abramovic and psychoanalyst Jeannette Fischer spent four days together at Abramovic's house in the Hudson Valley. Associating freely, they explored - from a psychoanalytical perspective - Abramovic's biography and art and what connects them.
A better understanding of herself, her personality and her work, was Abramovic's objective. She claims that conversations with artists abound, with one curator saying this and another saying that. Yet there is no book in which psychoanalysis puts her life and artistic work in context.
This new book aims to fill this gap. Yet it is not a therapist's report, nor a record of Fischer's analysis of Abramovic. It records the dialogue between artist and analyst attempting an interpretation of Abramovic's extraordinary violent performances that sometimes reach the brink of faint, even death. The two search for an understanding of the underlying structures and dynamics. Abramovic performs relationships, and she performs violence, yet she remains on her own in facing the pain and fear about it.
The book is arranged in a sequence of dialogues, separated by Fischer's comments on and images of four of Abramovic's performances to which the psychoanalyst refers.
Misere
The coming of the Industrial Revolution in the early 19th century witnessed unprecedented changes in society: rapid economic progress went hand-in-hand with appalling working conditions, displacement, squalor and destitution for those at the bottom of the social scale. These new circumstances presented a challenge to contemporary image-makers, who wished to capture the effects of hunger, poverty and alienation in Britain, Ireland and France in the era before documentary photography. In this groundbreaking book, the eminent art historian Linda Nochlin examines the styles and expressive strategies that were used by artists and illustrators to capture this misere, roughly characterized as poverty that afflicts both body and soul. She investigates images of the Irish Famine in the period 1846–51; the gendered representation of misery, particularly of poor women and prostitutes; and the work of three very different artists: Théodore Géricault, Gustave Courbet and the less wellknown Fernand Pelez. The artists’ desire to depict the poor and the outcast accurately and convincingly is still a pertinent issue, though now, as Nochlin observes, the question has a moral and ethical dimension – does the documentary style belittle its subjects and degrade their condition?

Dějiny umění Latinské Ameriky vznikly v dílně Střediska iberoamerických studií Univerzity Karlovy na základě přednášek autorek knihy. Cílem publikace je poskytnout zájemcům z řad studentů i veřejnosti základní přehled o dějinách umění tohoto regionu. Představit jim odbornou literaturu vztahující se k tématu, jakož i významné muzejní a galerijní instituce, seznámit je se vztahy mezi Českou republikou a Latinskou Amerikou na poli kultury a umění, a nasměrovat je tak v jejich dalším studiu. Výklad je doplněn o vysvětlení pojmů a doprovází jej bohatá obrazová příloha. Jedná se o první takový titul na českém knižním trhu.

The monthly journal’s continued appeal is due in large part to its diverse contributors, many of whom bring contrasting and often unexpected opinions to conversations about art and aesthetics. Since its inception, cofounder and artistic director Phong Bui and the Rail’s contributors have interviewed over 400 artists for The Brooklyn Rail. The Militant Muse documents what it meant to be young, ambitious and female in the context of an avant-garde movement defined by celebrated men whose educational, philosophical and literary backgrounds were often quite different from those of their younger lovers and companions. Focusing on the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, Whitney Chadwick charts five intense, far-reaching female friendships among the Surrealists to show how Surrealism, female friendship and the experiences of war, loss and trauma shaped individual women’s transitions from beloved muses to mature artists. Her vivid account includes the fascinating story of Claude Cahun and Suzanne Malherbe’s subversive activities in occupied Jersey, as well as the experiences of Lee Miller and Valentine Penrose at the frontline. Chadwick draws on personal correspondence between women, including the extraordinary letters between Leonora Carrington and Leonor Fini during the months following the arrest and imprisonment of Carrington’s lover Max Ernst at the beginning of World War Two, and the letter Frida Kahlo shared with her friend and lover Jacqueline Lamba years after it was written in the late 1930s during a difficult stay in Paris, marred by her intense dislike of Breton.
Thoroughly engrossing, this history brings a new perspective to the political context of Surrealism, as well as fresh insights on the vital importance of female friendship to its artistic and intellectual flowering.

Rozmluvy s Pierrem Cabannem
Kniha je nejrozsáhlejším Duchampovým mluvený komentářem, jehož kouzlo spočívá v jednoduchosti, s jakou svůj komplexní přístup k práci, životu a umění tlumočí. S citáty z této knihy se setkáme jak v učebnici pro základní školu, uvádějící děti do problematiky moderního umění, tak v komplikovaných textech o filozofii umění, estetice a dějinách umění dvacátého století. Duchampovy postoje nabízejí zcela nový pohled na dějiny zobrazování, funkci umění a jsou nutnou četbou pro ty, kdo si chtějí vytvořit názor na bouřlivý vývoj umění ve 20. a 21. století.
Přelomový význam Duchampova díla zpochybňujícího vývoj umělecké reprezentace, začíná být v širším kontextu uznáván až díky umělcům a teoretikům konceptuálního umění, minimalistického umění a popartu na počátku šedesátých let. V nemalé míře k tomuto přesunu těžiště od sítnicového k mozkovému, jež bylo pro druhou polovinu 20. století příznačné, přispěla tato kniha.
Kromě rozmluv kniha obsahuje předmluvy Pierra Cabanna ke třem historickým vydáním z let 1966, 1976 a 1995. Spíše než Duchampovy práce se tyto předmluvy relevantně dotýkají přijetí rozmluv a zprostředkovávají nám dobové reakce, jež vyvolaly.
