Japanese Woodblock Prints
From Edouard Manet’s portrait of naturalist writer Émile Zola sitting among his Japanese art finds to Van Gogh’s meticulous copies of the Hiroshige prints he devotedly collected, 19th-century pioneers of European modernism made no secret of their love of Japanese art. In all its sensuality, freedom, and effervescence, the woodblock print is single-handedly credited with the wave of japonaiserie that first enthralled France and, later, all of Europe?but often remains misunderstood as an “exotic” artifact that helped inspire Western creativity.
The fact is that the Japanese woodblock print is a phenomenon of which there exists no Western equivalent. Some of the most disruptive ideas in modern art?including, as Karl Marx put it, that “all that is solid melts into air”?were invented in Japan in the 1700s and expressed like never before in the designs of such masters as Hokusai, Utamaro, and Hiroshige in the early 19th century.

Zborník príspevkov z konferencie Divadlo a tridsať rokov samostatnej Slovenskej republiky – Ako sme sa hľadali, ktorá sa konala 15. a 16. novembra 2023 v Divadelnom ústave.
Autorom úvodu nazvanom Nejubilejné poznámky je historik Ivan Kamenec. Okrem iného v ňom píše: „Možno, že je to paradox, no zatiaľ viac informácií o okolnostiach a súvislostiach vzniku dnešnej Slovenskej republiky prináša nie odborná historická spisba, ale memoárová literatúra, individuálne spomienky (hoci nie vždy vierohodné) aktívnych alebo iba pasívnych súčasníkov daných udalostí. Dôležitým, hoci historikmi dosť zanedbávaným alebo podceneným prameňom sú aj umelecké diela spisovateľov, filmárov, divadelníkov. Pravdaže, v takýchto prípadoch treba rešpektovať prípustnú mieru umeleckej licencie a tolerancie, ktorá nám historikom niekedy chýba. Nemožno totiž požadovať od umeleckého diela, aby opakovalo či nahrádzalo odbornú historickú publikáciu ani učebnicu dejepisu. Je to úplne iný literárny žáner so svojím špecifickým, no mimoriadne dôležitým poslaním, ktorý viditeľne prevyšuje vplyv odbornej historiografie na širšiu verejnosť.“

Rozsáhlá publikace Jaroslava Riedela Česká rocková alba 2 – Nahrávky z let 1968–1986 přináší podrobné komentáře ke čtyřem desítkám původních rockových alb a více než dvaceti kompilacím singlových, rozhlasových či koncertních nahrávek, které vyšly v uplynulých desetiletích. Jsou zde zastoupena zásadní jména rockové historie: Michal Prokop a Framus Five, Blue Effect, Flamengo, Vladimír Mišík a Etc…, Jiří Schelinger, Katapult, Progress Organization i méně často zmiňované, ale rovněž důležité soubory Bluesmen, Rebels, Blues Band, Čundrgrund.
