Toulouse-Lautrec and the Stars of Paris offers a guided tour of fin-de-siecle Paris at night, bringing a group of its legendary protagonists to life.
The six performers at the center of this book--Yvette Guilbert, Jane Avril, Aristide Bruant, Marcelle Lender, May Belfort and Loie Fuller--were all depicted by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and in some ways defined by his iconic renderings. Actors and actresses, comedians, cabaret singers and dancers, these figures were the stars of the new entertainments of 19th-century Paris.
This booming nightlife scene coincided with new developments in modern printmaking. Lautrec immortalized the performances and personas of the city's entertainers in colorful lithographs, elevating the advertising poster to the status of high art. Artist and performer collaborated to exploit a new culture of entertainment and mass media, creating a new kind of celebrity in the process.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) was the descendant of an old and distinguished aristocratic family from the south of France, but he found his true home in the bars and nightclubs of the Montmartre distinct in Paris. In a brief mature career of only 15 years (Lautrec died at age 36 from complications of alcoholism and syphilis), the artist was stunningly prolific, producing approximately 1,000 paintings and watercolors, nearly 5,000 drawings and more than 350 prints and posters.

Autor knihy Stano Lajda je súčasný slovenský maliar stojaci na pomyselnej hranici figurálneho realizmu a surrealizmu či fantaskného umenia. Neusiluje sa priradiť k žiadnemu konkrétnemu prúdu a vytrvalo sa venuje figurálnej maľbe. Jeho tvorbu dlhé roky sprevádza fascinácia dielom velikánov dejín výtvarného umenia, najmä však odkazom geniálneho Leonarda da Vinci. Celoživotné skúmanie jeho Poslednej večere – praktické aj teoretické – ho priviedlo k vytvoreniu vernej rekonštrukcie tohoto diela.
Práve príbeh obrazu Poslednej večere prináša autor v knihe Leonardo. Je tak určená nielen milovníkom umenia, fanúšikom renesančného človeka a umelca da Vinciho, ale aj študentom umenia a odbornej verejnosti.
Edvard Munch: love and angst
Edvard Munch (1863-1944) is best known today as a painter, but his reputation was in fact established through his prints, which were central to his creative process. His printmaking was experimental and innovative, and he continually revisited the subjects of his paintings in striking prints, in which he evoked a wide range of emotion and mood through the use of varied techniques. Munch's early life in the industrial town of Kristiania (renamed Oslo in 1925) was marked by sickness and poverty.
His first works centred on the expression of deep emotional experiences, specifically the deaths of his mother and teenage sister when he was growing up, as well as passionate yet unhappy love affairs of which his deeply religious father disapproved. Encouraged by his encounters with a Bohemian society of artists, writers and poets, he developed a visual landscape that was a radical deviation from the slick society portraits and grand Scandinavian landscapes then so much in vogue. His efforts attracted considerable attention and much criticism, and he practised with little financial success as a painter for ten years before he started to gain his reputation as a profoundly innovative printmaker.
Written by a team of acknowledged experts, and with an interview by writer Karl Ove Knausgaard, this book will shed new light on the production of some of Munch's most remarkable works.

Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) byl vůdčí osobností tzv. pont-avenské školy a jedním z nejvýznamnějších postimpresionistických malířů. Hledání nových estetických standardů jej zavedlo nejprve do Bretaně a poté až na tichomořské ostrovy, kde toužil nalézt ztracený ráj a nedotčenou přírodu. Měl klíčový vliv na rozvoj moderního malířství.

Reprezentatívna monografia predstavuje na 334 stranách tvorbu Imra Weinera-Kráľa z celého tvorivého obdobia, a to nielen olejomaľbu, ale aj akvarely a kresby. Publikácia nadväzuje na monografiu z roku 2001, ale neopakuje diela už predtým reprodukované. Na rozdiel od predchádzajúcej je rozčlenená do deviatich tematických okruhov, ktoré sú uvádzané citáciami autora a celá kniha je aj bilingválna: francúzsko-slovenská. Okrem autorky koncepcie a textu výtvarnej teoretičky Dagmar Kudoláni Srnenskej je spoluautorkou aj dcéra maliara Elise Weiner Kral, ktorá napísala krásnu a dojímavú spomienku na otca.
Zostavovateľka knihy Dagmar Kudoláni Srnenská sa zamerala na menej známe maľby a tak vybrala na reprodukovanie diela nielen z majetku desiatich slovenských galérií, ale vhodne ich doplnila prácami zo súkromných zbierok. Dôležitou súčasťou monografie je kalendárium, fotografie zo života umelca a jeho rodiny, maliarove spomienky na roky strávené doma a v zahraničí, ako aj jeho komentáre k vlastnej tvorbe a výtvarnému dianiu doby, v ktorej žil a pracoval. Jaroslav Róna není pouze autorem monumentálních soch a velkých pláten, jak jej v posledních letech vnímá veřejnost. Rád se věnuje také kresbě a ilustracím (vzpomeňme na jeho podání povídek E. A. Poea v souboru Démon zvrácenosti nebo autentický pohled do světa Orwellova románu Devatenáct set osmdesát čtyři). The Life of Leonardo da Vinci
Giorgio Vasari's Lives of the Most Famous Painters, Sculptors and Architects (1550 and 1569) is a classic of cultural history. A monumental assembly of artists' lives from Giotto to Michelangelo, it paints a vivid picture of the progress of art in the hands of individual masters. No Life is more vivid than that of Leonardo, a near-contemporary of Vasari - not even Vasari's account of Michelangelo, whom he knew and idolized.
This beautiful edition offers a literary translation that respects the 16th-century Italian, transposing Vasari's vocabulary into its modern equivalent. Martin Kemp is an eminent scholar, who has written on the vocabulary of Renaissance writings on art, and has co-translated Leonardo on Painting and Leonardo's Codex Leicester. Translated in partnership with Lucy Russell, the text will be the first to cover both the 1550 edition and the expanded version of 1568, and the first to integrate the texts of the two editions on the page.
Discreet endnotes will provide succinct comments in the light of modern knowledge of Leonardo's career.
