Raphael (1483–1520) is considered the most important artist of the Italian High Renaissance alongside Michelangelo and Leonardo. In his short lifetime he created around one hundred paintings and numerous frescoes, including nine fresco cycles, on an unsurpassed variety of themes – from sensual female beauties, antique myths and portraits of wealthy Romans and church dignitaries to history cycles and biblical scenes. With his smooth, warm, ruddy face which radiated light in all directions, Chairman Mao Zedong was a fixture in Chinese propaganda posters produced between the birth of the People’s Republic in 1949 and the early 1980s.
Chairman Mao, portrayed as a stoic superhero (aka the Great Teacher, the Great Leader, the Great Helmsman, the Supreme Commander), appeared in all kinds of situations (inspecting factories, smoking a cigarette with peasant workers, standing by the Yangzi River in a bathrobe, presiding over the bow of a ship, or floating over a sea of red flags), flanked by strong, healthy, ageless men and “masculinized” women and children wearing baggy, sexless, drab clothing. The goal of each poster was to show the Chinese people what sort of behavior was considered morally correct and how great the future of Communist China would be if everyone followed the same path toward utopia by uniting together.

Neměla být spíše vytvořena kniha Výtvarné Brno Adolfa Kroupy? Nebo Dalibora Chatrného? Kniha „Výtvarné Brno Igora Zhoře 1957–1997“ sleduje podstatné vývojové kroky v uměleckém životě několika desetiletí a ukazuje, že to byl právě teoretik Igor Zhoř, kdo se naprosto zásadně podílel na mnoha důležitých aktivitách. Společně s tehdejším ředitelem Domu umění města Brna založil sdružení Mladí přátelé výtvarného umění, s Ivanem Rullerem a Vladimírem Preclíkem se zasloužil o vznik Fakulty výtvarných umění Vysokého učení technického v Brně, stál u zrodu Galerie mladých, byl spoluzakladatelem a prvním kurátorem Galerie Jaroslava Krále, zakládal umělecké skupiny a napsal skvělé knihy, jimiž hned několika generacím zájemců otevíral přístupové cesty k problematice aktuálního umění.

Petr Císařovský: Sedm bran / The Seven Gates
Kniha zachycující příběh pozoruhodného projektu sochaře a kováře Petra Císařovského, sestává ze dvou částí.
Iniciační projekt, nazvaný Sedm bran se odvíjí od počátku 90. let minulého století a základem se stala realizace brány sv. Františka, která symbolicky otevírá nejen františkánský areál uprostřed Prahy, ale i duchovní centrum města, založené císařem Karlem IV. Během času přibyla v protilehlém koutě zahrady brána sv. Anežky České. Vznikla tak díla výtvarně a ideově navázaná na genia loci daného místa. V průběhu let se zrodil nápad na vymezení celého prostoru zahrady. Výsledkem se stal projekt, který symbolicky navazuje na snahu Karla IV. vytvořit v daném místě novou korunovační katedrálu, ze zahrady by tak vznikl „Chrám pod širým nebem“. V první části knihy autor blíže seznamuje s realizacemi svých bran i mimo tento projekt.
Tvorba sochaře a kováře Petra Císařovského (* 1950) představuje unikátní syntézu sochařského citu a dokonale zvládnutého řemesla. V oblasti kované plastiky se řadí k našim nejvýraznějším tvůrcům; dokáže propojit tradiční postupy zpracování železa se současným pohledem na svět. Jeho díla nesou silný duchovní náboj a tichou reflexi lidského bytí.
The Seven Gates of Petr Císařovský
The present book, presenting the story of this fascinating project by sculptor and blacksmith Petr Císařovský, is composed of two parts. The initiatory project, entitled “Seven Gates” (Sedm bran) began to emerge from the start of the 1990s, originating from the realization of the St. Francis Gate – symbolically opening not only the Franciscan monastic complex in the historic core of Prague, but equally a spiritual centre of the city itself, founded by Emperor Charles IV. Later, in the opposite corner of the garden, another gate was raised, the St. Agnes of Bohemia Gate, resulting in two works that form both artistic and intellectual links to the genius loci of the given site.
Over time, the idea emerged of outlining the entire space of the garden. The result became a project making symbolic reference to the medieval plans of Charles IV to raise a new coronation cathedral on the site; the contemporary intervention, in turn, transforming the garden into a “sacred space in the open air”. In the first part of the book, the author presents in greater detail the realizations of his gates not connected to the central project.
The work of sculptor and artistic blacksmith Petr Císařovský (* 1950) represents a unique synthesis of refined sculptural sensibility with exceptional skill in craftsmanship. In the area of wrought-iron sculpture, he ranks among the most prominent Czech creators, able to combine traditional metalworking procedures with a contemporary view of the world. His artworks are the bearers of a strong spiritual charge and a quiet reflection of human existence.

Baselitz. A Life In Print

Celebrating six decades of print making, A Life In Print is the first comprehensive book on an important part of Georg Baselitz’ artistic practice.
Considered to be one of the greatest painters alive and credited to have revived Figuration in a time when Abstraction ruled the art world, the German artist started to explore different print techniques beginning in 1964, and never stopped to see them as an integral part of his work. While his contemporaries used new offset and screen-print techniques to create what amounted to reproductions in often high editions, Baselitz rejected the Zeitgeist and explored century old techniques like dry point etchings, aquatinta, wood and linocuts, while tirelessly pushing his own artistic limits.
The book brings together more than 245 prints and introduces the reader to all major themes and motives of Baselitz career, from the so-called Heroes of the mid-60ies to his iconic images of Eagles to the manyfold portraits of his wife Elke. The book forcefully makes the point that no other artist since Picasso has done more for and in that genre than Baselitz.
Edited by Cornelius Tittel in close collaboration with the Baselitz Archive in Munich, the book features an anthology of the quintessential historic texts on Baselitz’ printmaking – amongst others by himself, fellow artist Per Kirkeby and art historians like Michael Semff and Reiner Michael Mason. Pavel Tasovský
Monografie Jaroslava Maliny a dalších autorů (mezi nimi herec Boleslav Polívka nebo architekt David Vávra) věnovaná životu a dílu uměleckého kováře, sochaře, kreslíře a fotografa Pavla Tasovského sleduje dráhu umělce od let jeho mladosti. Pavel Tasovský se narodil 22. listopadu 1960 v Brně. Při volbě životní dráhy byl ovlivněn svým otcem, který byl malířem, restaurátorem a vůbec všestranným výtvarníkem. Přirozený talent rozvíjel důkladným řemeslným a uměleckým školením. Pronikal do tajů tradičních kovářských metod a díky své zručnosti a kreativitě se podílel na realizaci významných zakázek pro důležité objekty moravské architektury (například Malovaný dům v Třebíči, hrad Špilberk, Moravské zemské muzeum, poutní kostel ve Křtinách). Záhy se také prosadil svými originálními artefakty na výstavách a kovářských sympoziích Hefaiston. Tyto úspěchy a ohlasy jej v roce 1989 přivedly k založení umělecké kovářské dílny a ateliéru v Náměšti nad Oslavou. V průběhu doby zde vznikla řada znamenitých děl do historických objektů i současné architektury, která krášlí naše i zahraniční lokality (Belgie, Itálie, Německo, Rakousko, Švýcarsko, USA aj.). Ateliér se stal také školicím pracovištěm pro adepty uměleckého kovářství a sochařství, z nichž se mnozí stali významnými představiteli oboru. Přitom se stále intenzivněji a úspěšněji věnoval volné tvorbě, kterou prezentoval na uměleckých sympoziích, výstavách a stážích u nás a v zahraničí.
Jako osobnost uznávaná a respektovaná předními českými i zahraničními uměleckými kováři i historiky a kritiky umění, se podílí na organizaci uměleckého a společenského života. Od roku 2003 pořádá společně s kastelánem náměšťského zámku Markem Bušem výstavy Setkání v zámku, zámeckém parku a v Galerii 12, kterou vede "jeho Charis", manželka Ludmila Tasovská.
Volnou tvorbu Pavla Tasovského charakterizuje invence při volbě témat (mytologických, antropomorfních, zoomorfních...), originalita jejich ztvárnění a dokonalé zpracování užitých materiálů (corten, nerez, ocel, roxor a další tvárné kovy, kámen, sklo). Od počátku dává průchod svému laskavě humornému pohledu na svět. Jeho artefakty a monumenty, ztvárňované až s dadaistickou hravostí a groteskností, jsou prosyceny hlubokou imaginací a bezbřehou, téměř surrealistickou fantazií. V proudu času se však stále více oprošťoval od kultivovaných ladných linií virtuózně opracovaných materiálů a směřoval k zjednodušení formy a využití přirozenosti materiálu, až archetypálního vyznění. Neznamená to však, že by autor na svůj původní styl rezignoval, i v současné době volí ten z přístupů, který si daný námět vyžaduje. Tvorbě v konečném materiálu předchází brilantní přípravná kresba, obvykle v tužkové skice. K jeho emblematickým tématům patří "zvěrokruh"; ztvárnil jej v několika cyklech, jež v roce 2023 vyvrcholily monumentálním souborem, který je jako "naučná cesta" instalován v Náměšti nad Oslavou. Tasovského dílo se vyznačuje vyzrálou řemeslnou zručností a nespoutanou uměleckou kreativitou; to ho řadí mezi nejvýznamnější představitele oboru uměleckého kovářství a sochařství v kovu ve světovém měřítku.

His sketchbooks and paintings reject secondhand, slipshod versions of nature, instead subjecting the land, its people, and industry to intense scrutiny; developing a new kind of painting to fit the landscape he saw with his farmer's eye and felt beneath the soles of his boots.
