Jméno německého fotografa Heinricha Hoffmanna je úzce spjato s Adolfem Hitlerem. Původně uvažoval o dráze malíře, ale už za první světové války se prosadil jako uznávaný fotograf. Již v roce 1920 vstoupil do NSDAP a brzy se stal nejen osobním Hitlerovým fotografem, ale také jeho průvodcem a přítelem.
Je autorem více než dvou milionů Hitlerových snímků, které pořídil v letech 1920–1945. Z těchto fotografií sestavil řadu prvoplánově propagandistických publikací, jejichž jediným účelem bylo „vůdce“ nekriticky glorifikovat jako moudrého otce a spasitele německého národa. S Napoleonem i proti němu
Oberwachtmeister Benedikt Peter (1785–1863) patří k těm účastníkům napoleonských válek, o nichž máme k dispozici jen značně neúplné informace a z velké části jsme odkázáni na to, co o sobě napsal on sám. Příběh nadstrážmistra Benedikta Petera je velice osobní, vůbec ne rozmarný a málokdy sledující velkolepé souvislosti, přesto je ale hluboce pravdivý, až působí jako zpověď. Léta Páně 1809 vytáhl Peter jako čtyřiadvacetiletý jízdní myslivec do svojí první války, v níž zažil bitvy u bavorského Abensbergu a Eggmühlu i rakouského Lince. O tři roky později táhl do Ruska, kde jej čekala jatka v bitvě u Borodina a po nich ústup ruskou zimou se slavně neslavnou bitvou na řece Berezině. V roce 1813, druhý den bitvy u Lipska, přešli württemberští jezdci na stranu protinapoleonské koalice a Petera i jeho druhy čekaly ještě tři roky, kdy měl bojovat proti císaři Francouzů.
Paměti jsou úžasný, životem napsaný příběh, který udivuje stylem, kompozicí i sevřeností, jaké by nikdo nečekal u muže, který se číst a psát učil jako samouk po svém prvním povýšení. Peterovo vyprávění plyne jak voda a je v něm tolik silných míst, že to občas bere dech. Peterův příběh rozhodně patří k tomu nejlepšímu, co v široké škále vzpomínek a pamětí na napoleonské války vzniklo. Kromě toho je jedním z mála německy psaných pramenů, které jsou k dispozici v českém překladu.

Bemutatja a konfliktus előzményeit, a magyar-horvát viszony alakulását 1848 márciusától szeptemberig, különös tekintettel az 1848. március 23-án horvát bánná kinevezett Jellačić szerepére, illetve a magyar kormány megbékélési törekvéseire és a birodalmi kormányzat Jellačićhoz fűzött reményeire. Foglalkozik a Batthyány-kormány hadseregszervező és honvédelmi intézkedéseivel, amelyek révén lehetővé vált a horvát támadás kivédése.
Ezt követi az 1848. szeptember 11. és október 30. közötti mintegy másfél hónap hadműveleteinek bemutatása. Ezek során a frissen szervezett magyar honvédsereg először megállította Jellačić támadó hadseregét a Dunántúlon, majd az 1848. október 6-i bécsi forradalmat követően kiűzte azt az országból. A hadműveletek eredményeként október második hetének végére a Dunántúlon már nem állomásoztak ellenséges csapatok, mert vagy kiűzték őket, mint Jellačić támadó seregét, vagy elfogták őket, mint a székesfehérvári horvát helyőrséget vagy a Szlavóniából betört Roth-hadosztályt.
Külön fejezet szól Jellačić üldözéséről és arról, hogy a bánt üldöző magyar hadsereg miért torpant meg a Lajtánál, és miért nem sietett a forradalmi Bécs felmentésére. Az utolsó fejezet az október végén Bécs megsegítésére indított támadást, illetve az azt lezáró schwechati csatát mutatja be. Összességében a magyar hadsereg ezekben a hadműveletekben szerezte meg azt a tapasztalatot, amelynek révén az 1848-1849. téli hadjáratban képes volt kivédeni a cs. kir. hadsereg Magyarország elleni összpontosított támadását.
A könyvben gazdag szövegközi képanyag, valamint térképek és színes képmelléklet segítenek abban, hogy átfogó képet kaphassunk ennek a Magyarország történelmében oly nagy szerepet játszott eseménysornak a menetéről és szereplőiről.
