Reformace zásadně proměnila raně novověkou Evropu, když narušila monopol římské církve a přinesla nové pojetí vztahu člověka k Bohu. Následný proces konfesionalizace dovršil rozkol západního křesťanství. Vznik konfesí a jejich vzájemné vymezování vstoupily do mnoha oblastí života včetně politiky, což v evropském měřítku vyústilo třicetiletou válkou. Kniha se zaměřuje na průběh reformace a konfesionalizace v královském městě Jihlavě v době od příchodu prvního luteránského kazatele až do prvních let po bitvě na Bílé hoře. Raně novověké město představovalo svébytné prostředí, které bylo formováno hodnotovým systémem měšťanů, sociální strukturou a činností aktérů, kteří ve městě žili, ale i těch, kteří jeho chod ovlivňovali na dálku. Autorka si kladla otázku, kdo ve městě patřil k hlavním aktérům reformačního příběhu, jak spolu vzájemně komunikovali a ve kterých oblastech zdejšího života hrála konfese podstatnou roli. Díky bohaté pramenné základně, která nabídla úřední i narativní dokumenty, rekonstruuje obraz městského církevního společenství v postupně se zneklidňujícím čase.

Těch je nejspíš nejvíc, protože okolo každé historické události a osobnosti najdete řadu drobných i větších skutečností, kterým lze dát nálepku PARADOX! Tak například křižácké výpravy měly být nejdůležitějším prvkem středověké válečné a náboženské doktríny pro boj s bezvěrci, ale vedly k zániku vrcholně kulturní a vznešené byzantské kultury. Dětská křižácká výprava měla být v očích křesťanů něčím výjimečným, ale stala se pogromem.
Gutenbergův objev knihtisku měl vést ke zlepší vzdělání lidí, ale skončil dnešním bulvárem.
Revoluce ve Francii měla vést k rovnoprávnosti a svržení monarchie, ale ve skutečnosti způsobila nástup jednoho z největších tyranů moderní historie – Napoleona Bonaparte.
Hitler miloval umění, ale stal se jedním z největších likvidátorů uměleckých děl v historii světa.

Rudý katecheta
Revoluce 1848 přinesla svobodu a možnosti, o kterých se současníkům nesnilo. Debaty o právní, politické a sociální rovnosti otevřely cestu ke vzniku občanské společnosti. Diskuse o dalším soužití malých středoevropských národů a jejich vztahu ke sjednocenému Německu nastolily bolestivá dilemata této části Evropy. Hrdiny dne se stali nově zvolení poslanci, kteří měli změny prosadit. Jičínský poslanec říšského sněmu Jan M. Sidon v celé šíři těchto otázek představuje ideálního zástupce lidu. Radikálně demokratickými a přitom centralisticky laděnými názory a postoji se ovšem vymykal z tábora českých poslanců a vyvolával jejich negativní reakce. Jičínské měšťany popuzoval bezskrupulózními praktikami politického boje, kdy neváhal použít předvolebních manipulací a nátlaku. Jeho charakterové vlastnosti zase dráždily kněžské souputníky a církevní nadřízené. Jako přední demokrat se nakonec stal jednou z prvních obětí tzv. Bachova absolutismu. Nepřátelství ze všech stran jej nakonec odsoudilo k zapomenutí. Na základě dosud nevyužitých pramenů se však podařilo nejen zrekonstruovat životní osudy této opomíjené osobnosti, ale i ducha pozoruhodné epochy dějin.
Půlnoc v Černobylu
Události, které se odehrály v Černobylu 25. dubna 1986, znamenaly zvrat v dějinách. Atomová katastrofa nezměnila jen celosvětové vnímání jaderné energetiky a vědy, ale také náš postoj k ekologii. Opuštěné domy a dětská hřiště za ostnatým drátem třicetikilometrové vyloučené zóny, vrakoviště kontaminovaných vozidel a helikoptér, orná půda pod přívaly černého deště, to vše nám bude navždy připomínat nebezpečí neviditelného zabijáka – radiace. br Černobylská havárie představovala také klíčový faktor při kolapsu Sovětského svazu a jeho porážce ve studené válce. Pro Moskvu to byla nejen environmentální a vědecká katastrofa, ale zejména politická a finanční. Celkové náklady se vyšplhaly na 18 miliard rublů – dobový ekvivalent 18 miliard dolarů – a Černobyl jimi dorazil ekonomiku, která byla i bez něj na pokraji zhroucení.
Havárie a její následky naplno ukázaly, že sovětský stát je kolos stojící na prohnilých nohou lží. br Celou pravdu o tom, co v tu noc začalo v reaktorovně 4. bloku Atomové elektrárny V. I. Lenina, až dosud nikdo nevyprávěl. Novinář Adam Higginbotham obětoval dvě desetiletí života rozhovorem se svědky a práci s archivními materiály, aby nám předložil toto drama v celém rozsahu. Začteme se do vzpomínek obyvatel ztraceného světa vnitrostátních pasů, tajné policie, dlouhých řad na potraviny a hrdinského sebeobětování za vlast.
Vysoce ceněná Půlnoc v Černobylu je špičková literatura faktu, která popisuje zkázu impéria, hrdinství jednotlivců a zoufale důmyslné improvizace, kterými se společně snažili bojovat proti novému nepříteli.

Ruská bílá emigrace v Československu
Po revoluci v roce 1917 a následné občanské válce emigrovaly z území bývalé Ruské říše statisíce lidí. Přibližně třicet tisíc žilo i v meziválečném Československu. Zvláštní skupinu této emigrace tvořila ruská vědecká a kulturní elita. V Československu tak působily stovky profesorů, pracovníků vysokých škol a vědců z nejrůznějších oborů. Své odborné práce emigranti vydávali v českém i slovenském jazyce, publikovali v českém a slovenském periodickém tisku a zapojovali se do zdejšího vědeckého života. Badatelé věnující se tématu ruské emigrace se dosud zaměřovali především na představitele humanitních či uměleckých oborů. Činnost představitelů technických, přírodních a zemědělských věd zatím není podrobněji zdokumentována. V populárně-naučných publikacích a odborných článcích jsou zmiňováni pouze jednotlivci v souvislosti s výsledky své práce. Monografie Ruská bílá emigrace v Československu je tak prvním pokusem zmapovat činnost těchto techniků a přírodovědců během jejich pobytu v Československu. Uplatnili se zde jako pedagogové, v praxi i ve výzkumu a ve svých oborech mnohdy patřili ke špičkovým odborníkům. Předkládaná publikace z velké části vychází z dobového tisku, nekrologů, archivních materiálů, rodinných archivů a databáze udělených patentů. Citované dokumenty rovněž podávají svědectví o životě v emigraci a těžkostech, s nimiž se emigranti museli v běžném životě vyrovnávat.
