Kniha prináša čitateľovi fakty o dejinách rímskokatolíckej cirkvi v Martine a to zhruba v dvoch dejových líniách. Prvá hovorí o cirkevných stavbách, ktoré predchádzali dnešnému kostolu a potom sa venuje vzniku a vývoju dnes existujúceho chrámu. Zároveň prináša doteraz neznáme fakty o architektonických vzťahoch a rozmerovú analýzu stavby, pričom popisuje aj historický vývoj interiéru. Druhá sa venuje dejinám cirkvi v meste i farnosti a informuje o cirkevnom školstve i kňazoch tu pôsobiacich. Zároveň sa čitateľ dozvie aj o farnostiach a cirkevných stavbách, ktoré kedysi patrili, alebo v priebehu rokov boli včlenené do dnešnej organizácie martinskej cirkvi.
Římská plátová zbroj
Na Trajánově sloupu, který dodnes stojí uprostřed Říma, jsou vyobrazeni legionáři ve velmi působivé plátové zbroji. Renesanční historikové, kteří se zajímali o antické památky, ji pojmenovali lorica segmentata. Věděli, že ji v arénách používali i gladiátoři, ale to bylo na dlouhou dobu vše. Více světla na tuto součást vojenské výstroje vrhly až archeologické nálezy z druhé poloviny 20. století, které nám umožnily pochopit, jak se vyráběla, jak fungovala a jak dlouho se používala. K nejslavnějšímu nálezu římské plátové zbroje došlo v anglickém Corbridge v roce 1964, další fragmenty se našly jinde ve Velké Británii a ve Španělsku, téměř kompletní sada pak byla objevena v roce 2018 v německém Kalkreise. Díky vědeckým metodám dnes již dobře známe technologii výroby této zbroje, máme k dispozici chronologií jejího užívání a zásluhou různých skupin reenaktorů i dostatek informací o jejím praktickém použití, silných stránkách i slabinách. Kniha předního odborníka na tuto problematiku představí nenovější pohled i na další součásti římské zbroje: tzv. svalové kyrysy, chrániče paží, holenice a zbroj pro koně. Nákresy v knize jsou vyhotoveny podle nejnovějších poznatků a archeologických nálezů. Pro lepší představu jsou zařazena i umělecká ztvárnění použití plátové zbroje ve scénách z každodenního života římských vojáků.

Nekončící příběh
Zrod samostatného československého státu na podzim 1918 byl od počátku vnímán jako jeden z vůbec nejdůležitějších milníků národních dějin. Podrobnému líčení a interpretaci této události se proto intenzívně věnovali nejen zainteresovaní aktéři, ale i publicisté a hlavně historici. Publikace analyzuje způsob, jakým byl v českém a slovenském dějepisectví reflektován složitý proces vzniku Československa, a to s důrazem na klíčové období první světové války (1914–1918). Pozornost se zaměřuje nejen na rozbor výkladových schémat a narativů, ale i představení osobnostních a kariérních profilů jednotlivých historiků. Autoři tímto způsobem postupně sledují formování příběhu československé revoluce za první republiky, různé negativistické či revizionistické výklady či marxisticky orientované interpretace dominující v domácí historiografii po roce 1948. Stranou ovšem nezůstává ani exilová či zahraniční produkce, stejně jako období let 1990–1993, kdy docházelo k prolínání a koexistenci hned několika historiografických přístupů k problematice vzniku Československa. Závěrečné oddíly jsou věnovány vybraným paralelám a komparativním přesahům, které bylo možné zachytit v případě historiografie vzniku Jugoslávie a Polska.
