Čtveřice textů v žánrovém rozpětí od krátkého článku po knižní studii nabízí pohled na Alexandra Sticha mj. jako na teoretika textologie, propojované vždy s dalšími disciplínami - s lingvistikou, stylistikou, historií aj. Texty souboru jsou zaměřené autorsky ke Karlu Sabinovi a skrze něj k dalším autorům, zejména ke K. Havlíčkovi Borovskému, B. Němcové a J. E. Sojkovi. Tyto materiálové studie tvoří v rámci Stichova díla samostatný celek, v mnoha ohledech odlišný od autorových prací zařazených do výboru Od Karla Havlíčka k Františku Halasovi z r. 1996.
Alexandr Stich (1934-2003) - lingvista, literární vědec a historik, znalec baroka a literatury 19. století, proslul zejména svým lingvoliterárním přístupem k uměleckým a publicistickým textům, v němž se podnětným způsobem kombinuje několik vědních oborů. Ve větší části svého díla se rovněž zabýval textologií, kterou vnímal jako způsob práce s textově ukotveným historickým faktem a možnost nacházení jeho autentické podoby. Připravil řadu edic publicistiky a beletrie (např. J. K. Tyl: Pražský posel 1848, 1966; M. Z. Polák: Cesta do Itálie, 1979; výbor z publicistiky K. Havlíčka Borovského, 1986; J. Kořínek: Staré paměti kutnohorské, 2000). Teoretickou rovinu textologie reflektoval v řadě svých prací, nejdůsažněji patrně v souboru sabinovských statí, publikovaných v tomto svazku.

Kniha literárního vědce a jazykovědce Josefa Štochla Svět díla Jiřího Ortena je ve světovém měřítku dosud nejpronikavějším, nejucelenějším a nejrozsáhlejším dílem o tvorbě "básníka, jemuž i Pánbůh závidí" (I. Diviš). Autor zkoumá Ortenovo dílo z hlediska celistvě poetologického i speciálně versologického. Zasazuje jej do kontextu (nejen) české literatury. Vyrovnává se s veškerou ortenovskou literaturou (odhaluje přitom plagiáty), ze značné části cizojazyčnou, prostudoval i závěrečné vysokoškolské práce. Štochl metodologicky navazuje, mnohdy polemicky, zejména na svého učitele, mezinárodně renomovaného vědce Miroslava Červenku, největšího československého literárněvědného strukturalistu po prvním pokolení, jenž už o Štochlově práci Verš Ortenovy Čítanky jaro napsal, že "[…] systematičnost těchto analýz sotva má nějakou obdobu", a oceňoval mj. způsob, jímž Štochl ve svých poetologických bádáních aplikuje jazykovědný aparát. Kniha reflektuje i práci poetologů a versologů, kteří jsou v porovnání s jejím autorem přibližně o půl generace až generaci mladší. J. Štochl předkládá rovněž nové teoretické přístupy a poznatky. Pro většinu čtenářů bude patrně novinkou, že německý literární vědec Glaser již v 60. letech zařadil Ortenovo dílo do světové literatury. Kniha přináší též překvapivé zjištění, odkud se v Ortenově přednarozeninové a zároveň předsmrtné básni "Stromy let" vzala její poslední dvě slova "lety dvaadvacíti".

Téma monografie čtyř autorů z Ústavu české literatury a literární vědy Filozofické fakulty UK by šlo shrnout jako "implicitní polemiku" s tradovaným výrokem Theodora W.
