Čtenář je průběžně seznámen s principy a historií sociální práce, včetně jejího ovlivňování sociální politikou, osobností sociálního pracovníka, stávajícími i novými paradigmaty v sociální práci. Další velká část publikace je věnovaná teoriím sociální práce, které jsou obohaceny východisky a případně i historickým kontextem s přesahem do současnosti. Závěrečná část knihy je spíše praktická. Je zaměřena na práci s jednotlivcem, rodinou, skupinou a komunitou. Samozřejmě se zabýváme i supervizí a nestandardní evaluací v sociální práci.
