Grónsko je hranicou nášho sveta, za ktorou už nič nie je. Je miestom konfliktu záujmov, hodnôt a veľmocí. Nikde inde na svete pritom nežije trvale na takom veľkom území tak málo ľudí. Nikde inde sa schopnosť ľudí prežiť v drsných podmienkach nepreveruje tak dôkladne a po taký dlhý čas. Príbeh Grónska od ľadovej doby po súčasnosť sa nepodobá ničomu, na čo sme z historických rozprávaní zvyknutí. Nie je súvislý, ale prerušovaný. Na najväčšom ostrove sveta občas zmizlo osídlenie a nežil tam vôbec nikto. Inokedy tam ľudia síce žili, ale akoby sa zastavil čas – všetko sa prestalo vyvíjať a meniť. Naopak, zhruba od začiatku druhej svetovej vojny tam zase bežia dejiny zbesilejšie než kdekoľvek inde, akoby chceli dohnať stáročia stagnácie.
Petr Koubský už vo svojich dvoch predošlých textoch (Stručné dejiny Ukrajiny a Stručné dejiny Ruska) ukázal svoje jedinečné nadanie zasadiť do kontextu a zrozumiteľne vysvetliť dejinné súvislosti, ktoré vedú k často nepochopiteľnej súčasnosti. 2008-ig a második világháború 1944-1945. évi magyarországi harcainak volt egy olyan eseménysora, amelyet a hadtörténetírás addig nem dolgozott fel kellő alapossággal. A magyar szakemberek a területet az 1945 utáni helyzetből kiindulva Csehszlovákia részének tekintették, és miután az arcvonal átlépte az 1938 előtti magyar határt, a tolluk legtöbbször megtorpant.
A kötet szerkezete az előző kiadáshoz képest lényegében nem változott, ám a korábbi kézirat bővítése során olyan mennyiségű új adatot sikerült feltárni, hogy ezek közreadásával lényegében egy új könyv született, messze meghaladva az eredeti terjedelmet.
Elsőként az úgynevezett ipolysági átjáró birtoklásáért vívott 1944. decemberi harcok páncélosalkalmazásával, majd a második fejezetben annak az 1945. január 6–22. között megvívott komáromi páncélosütközetnek a történetével ismerkedhet meg az Olvasó, amely az első fejezet témájának szerves folytatása, mind kronológiai, mind hadműveleti szempontból. A harmadik fejezet témája az 1945. februári „Südwind” hadművelet számos új adattal; ez volt a német csapatok egyik utolsó győztes hadművelete a végső vereség előtt. A kötetet az 1945. március végi harcok összefoglalása zárja le, különös tekintettel a harcoló felek páncélosokkal rendelkező alakulataira, benne egyebek mellett a román 2. harckocsiezred harctevékenységével.
A szöveget egy nagyméretű, kivehető térkép, számos harcvázlat és hadrendi ábra, valamint a tárgyalt időszakban készült fényképek egészítik ki.
