Water to Water
In 2009, prompted by the Israeli siege of Gaza, Palestinian American poet Deema Shehabi and Jewish American poet Marilyn Hacker started a correspondence. It took the form of responding to each other''s poems. They resumed their poetic dialogue by email after Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023. Their project involved an alternating call and response between them in the tradition of the Japanese renga form, each poet picking up a word, phrase, or image from the poem preceding. The result is a fascinating poetic conversation. The two poetic voices are beautifully meshed together, so that it actually reads as one long poem. The poetry is rich in vivid imagery, leaving lasting impressions along with the emotions it evokes-such as the feelings unrest and exile. While television and social media present images of the world''s reaction to this genocide on the surface, this book offers an intimate glimpse into the thoughts of these two poets wrangling with the devastation and fallout. WATER TO WATER: Gaza Renga is a dignified celebration of humanity in and among atrocities. Although triggered by events in Gaza, it weaves in other conflicts past and present. Kniha Svedomie rieky vychádza ako pozoruhodná rekonštrukcia rukopisu Lýdie Vadkerti-Gavorníkovej, ktorý vznikol v polovici osemdesiatych rokov minulého storočia. Epigrams of Oscar Wilde
There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about', said Oscar Wilde more than a hundred years ago. But this remark seems perhaps even more relevant to our present world where so many seek publicity at any cost. Wilde's well-turned phrases and spontaneous insults still cause much amusement and admiration. Most of us miss the opportunities for bon mots, finding them long after the moments have passed, but Wilde seems never to have been short of suitable words - flattering, witty and on occasions savagely cruel. Many of the quotes in this book are taken from Wilde's plays, novels and essays which were also packed with witticisms amounting to an outrageous philosophy. Wilde's extravagance and unconventional behaviour earned him loyal friends but also bitter enemies and in 1895 after a series of unfortunate events and court cases he was gaoled for two years with hard labour for indecent behaviour. Though from prison came a few last brilliant works, Wilde was never to recover his health or standing in society. He died in Paris bankrupt, broken and alone. He is buried at Cimetiere du Pere Lachaise - one of Paris's finest cemeteries - where today many pilgrims from all parts of the world come to pay their respects and leave tokens in recognition of his genius.

Príbeh „havrany anny“, ktorá sa „vracia k pravému menu, bez masky“, ktorá túži „byť nahá a krvavá ako v prvú noc“. „Pôvodný jazyk“ tej, ktorá „sa pohla k frontovej línii“, „prežila smrť matky“. „Ne/skutočnosť spoza snového / rehoľného javiska“, kde sa „deje začínajú vstupom do zrejúcej / zimy, do krvavého, do oka“.
Ak sa však napriek autorkiným „začernetým, horkým“ víziám videným cez desivý „priezor do zajtrajška“, napriek všetkej krvi, ktorou sú verše omývané, ponoríme do textu dostatočne hlboko, lyrickú hrdinku v ňom uvidíme „čistú ako odokrytú lonovú kosť“.
Pre niekoho nezmyselné, pre iného uchu lahodiace. Také je básnické umenie.
