Vízben égni, tűzbe fulladni
„vannak emberek, akik soha nem őrülnek meg. milyen borzalmas életük lehet.” Charles Bukowski (1920-1994) mára az amerikai és a világirodalom egyik legismertebb, legtöbbet idézett, leginkább ünnepelt, de egyben - nyers, szókimondó stílusa és züllött életmódja miatt - az egyik legvitatottabb alakja is.
A világ kedvenc Vén Kujonja nemcsak zseniális író és novellista, hanem egyedülálló és gyomorbavágóan jó költő is. Bukowski Amerikában költőként vált először ismertté, versfelolvasó estjei mára legendásak. 1954-ben kezdett verseket írni (miután kiengedték a kórházból, ahol vérző gyomorfekéllyel kezelték, amibe majdnem belehalt), és mi most annak a kitüntetett pillanatnak lehetünk részesei, hogy végre kézbe vehetjük első verseskötetét magyar nyelven – húsz évvel azután, hogy elindult itthon a Bukowski-életműsorozat.
A Vízben égni, tűzbe fulladni című kötet első három részében szereplő versek az 1955 és 1968 közötti évekből származnak, míg az utolsó rész az 1972–1973-as munkákat tartalmazza, így egészen átfogó képet kaphatunk arról, hogyan vált Bukowski költővé, és látni fogjuk, hogy – mint általában a műveiben – ebben a kötetben is az igazat, csakis az igazat mondja az életről, közben földbe döngöl, felemel, szórakoztat, elgondolkodtat, megnevettet, szembesít, meghökkent, megsemmisít, gyomorba vág, aztán talpra állít és leporol minket. Autor se v ní nebojí otevírat ty nejintimnější zákoutí lidských emocí. Pamatujte, že někdy ty nejmenší maličkosti mají největší sílu. Vždyť život sám je někdy takovou bezbrannou maličkostí.

Mahútove verše sú úprimné, autentické, priamo z autorovho vnútra, sú teda veľmiemocionálne. V zbierke sú obsiahnuté tak nerýmované a čiastočne rýmované básne, ako i básne rýmované, a niektoré autor aj zhudobnil. Matúš Mahút je rozhodne zaujímavý a výrazný hlas v slovenskej poézii.

Sbírka přináší znovu hlas mladého autora, jenž kdysi, v časech dospívání, hledal slova pro odpor, smích i tichou útěchu. Verše psané na přelomu šedesátých let nesou stopy školních absurdit, generačního vzdoru i intimních krajinných nálad. Jsou syrové, občas hravě sarkastické, jindy bolestně citlivé – vždy však prodchnuté touhou pojmenovat pravdu, i kdyby měla mít podobu ironického gesta. Poezie zde není jen literárním autorským experimentem, ale i bytostným záznamem doby, kdy psané slovo bylo únikem i zbraní.

Souhrnná edice výrazné osobnosti české poezie devadesátých let minulého století
Svazek přinese v relativní úplnosti básnické a prozaické dílo Karla Jana Čapka. V čele edice budou přetištěny dvě autorovy knihy poezie — Menuet s krejčovskou pannou a Karel je nemocný a předčítá. Obě sbírky představují Čapka jako básníka eruptivní poetiky, jejíž kořeny byly často hledány v surrealismu a undergroundu, básníka neortodoxně pracujícího se strukturou strofy a verše, básníka imaginativního, hledajícího neotřelý výraz s pro něj typickými sémantickými zkratkami a segmentací textu. Zatímco Čapkova poezie byla v devadesátých letech zčásti příznivě přijímána a jindy naopak příkře odmítána, prozaické dílo zůstává dodnes nezpřístupněno. Proto edice vůbec poprvé přinese v úplnosti rozsáhlejší prózu Novelka (1997, nedokončeno). Závěrečná část souboru nabídne průřez z básnické a prozaické tvorby otištěné časopisecky nebo dochované v pozůstalosti.
