Manitoba
Třetí sbírka Davida Vody (nar. 1976), básníka a historika umění, je jako spirála, která se napíná, smršťuje, roste. Jeho poezie pulzuje od hmotného k duchovnímu a zpět. Lze jí propadnout jako papírovým dnem. Vidět ji v barevných kostkách poskládaných na holé zemi. Slyšet ji v altu hortenzií. Dotýkat se jí, když kráčíš po dně vrásky kolem milovaných úst. David Voda ve své Manitobě tvoří vše nové. Z nápisů tužkou po bílé stěně, z ladění zvonů, bzukotu pump, bobulí pámelníku, ze světla, v němž žijeme. His father was a leather merchant, and their existence was comfortable, in spite of the widespread persecution of Jews in turn-of-the-century Russia. Mandelshtam travelled in Europe and attended university, but abandoned his studies early to devote himself to writing. His first collection, Stone, published when he was only twenty-two, immediately established him as one of Russia's foremost poets. The revolution and the Soviet rule that followed created immense difficulties for Mandelshtam. Unwilling to bend his art to political ends, and increasingly critical of Stalin's leadership, he was imprisoned, tortured, exiled and generally persecuted. He continued to write, releasing another major collection, Tristia, and entrusting poems to his wife Nadezhda and his literary friends, who kept many of his works hidden from the authorities. Once more arrested, on his way to a prison camp, Mandelshtam died of heart failure, according to officials, in 1938.James Greene was born in Berlin in 1938. He studied French and Russian at Oxford. A poet himself, and a prize-winning translator, he worked on several major writers in addition to Mandelshtam, including Fernando Pessoa and Afanasy Fet. He died in 2023.

Kniha představuje nový, první ucelený překlad Charmsovy poezie do češtiny (260 z celkem 283 básní). Z oněch 23 nepřeložených básní některé nebyly ruskými editory průkazně rekonstruovány, u dalších byla důvodem nezařazení jejich nepřesaditelnost do českého jazykového i kulturního prostředí. Všechny překlady byly pořízeny z prvních verzí básní, a to s ohledem na skutečnost, že autorovy pozdější úpravy nejsou vždy dobře doložené. Zachovány zůstaly i všechny gramatické zvláštnosti a odchylky.
Charmsova poezie je v pravém slova smyslu nonkonformní, nepodbízející se, často groteskní, ironická, sarkastická.

August, September, October is a deep, vulnerable meditation on fatherhood, time passing, and survival in a world reshaped by crisis. In two long, diaristic poems and a constellation of lyrical reflections that accrue into a day book of sorts, this collection traces the daily experiences of a poet—someone very much, though not exactly, like Craig Morgan Teicher—through the emotional and existential terrain of caregiving during the COVID-19 lockdown. In the title poem, “August September October,” the speaker tends to his medically fragile son during a harrowing stretch of illness and hospitalization while pondering the deathbed book of Irish poet Ciaran Carson. Pomona’s Orchard, Adrian Blamires’ third collection, is dedicated to the arts of peace.
