The desire for beautiful gardens is as strong as ever. An own garden as a private oasis of well-being, but also as a place of prestige can be much more than lawn and flowerbed, path, and hedge. The projects by professional landscape and garden architects presented in this volume show which elements, components and structures, composed and conceived with care and sophistication, constitute stylish and convincing garden design. The interaction with the surroundings, usually the house that belongs to the particular garden, always plays an important role. This can be sometimes strictly geometrical in a near-natural environment, unpretentious in front of a luxury villa, or freely moving, loosening up minimalist architecture. The size of the presented gardens from very different climatic zones ranges from a green backyard of less than 20 square feet to park-like grounds of over 2,000.

Viennese architect Adolf Loos was influential among his fellow early modernists not only for his radical designs but for his controversial ideology and famously militant opposition to ornament. Loos approached architecture from a primarily utilitarian perspective: he believed that interiors should be designed according to function, taking full advantage of the size and space of a building.
In this definitive monograph, a true labor of love, architect Ralf Bock seeks to reveal the sensuality of Loos' interior designs, focusing on his sincere belief in the evolution of tradition. The book explores 30 existing projects from Loos' oeuvre, documented in 160 full-color images by the celebrated French photographer Phillippe Ruault. Along with materials from the Loos archive at the Albertina Museum Vienna, these photographs and Bock's commentary provide a new interpretation of Loos' work and encourage the reintroduction of his ideology into the contemporary architectural conversation. Profiles of Loos' original clients and interviews with people who currently inhabit his designs round out this unique publication.
Adolf Loos (1870-1933) was a radical figure in his time: his critique of the Vienna Secession and advocacy for utilitarian design greatly influenced the less ornamental approaches to architecture among subsequent modernist designers. He studied briefly at Dresden University of Technology and delivered his famous lecture "Ornament and Crime" at the Academic Association for Literature and Music in 1910. His most recognizable building is the multipurpose Looshaus at Michaelerplatz in Vienna, characterized by the numerous window boxes on the building's façade.

Osobnosti českých, respektive československých prezidentů, počínaje Masarykem a konče Zemanem, jsou natolik odlišné, že se snad ani nechce věřit v nějaké příbuzné genetické kořeny. Jejich politické životopisy jsou dostatečně známy, méně se však literatura věnuje tomu, jací byli v soukromí, když se nemuseli stylizovat a neviděly je oči národa. S tím samozřejmě souvisí i místa KDE žili, jaké bylo jejich rodinné zázemí. Václav Junek si získal čtenáře už předchozí publikací Slavné vily slavných. Tato kniha na ni volně navazuje jen s tím rozdílem, že vniká do soukromí československých a českých prezidentů. Činí tak s autorovou schopností vyhmátnout ze soukromého života mužů, kteří tvořili naše dějiny, to podstatné. Čtivě tak představuje prezidenty a jejich rodiny ve chvílích, kdy se nemusejí stylizovat.

A kastélyok pusztulása gyakran krimibe illő történet, amelynek pontos részleteit az idők során sem tisztázódtak. Mai napig nem tudjuk, hogyan és miért lobbant lángra, és égett porig az alcsúti, egykori Habsburg-kastély, a Pollack Mihály tervezte épület hazánk egyik legjelentősebb klasszicista magánépülete volt. A tragédia idején is találgatták, vajon ki gyújtotta fel a rédei Esterházy-kastély évszázados faszerkezetét, amelynek fazsindelyeit a barokk épület iránti tiszteletből féltő gonddal őrizte meg egykori tulajdonosa, gróf Esterházy Pál.

Existuje rozdíl mezi historickou a současnou architekturou?
