Buildings for People and Plants by WORKac is a thoughtfully curated architectural exploration by Amale Andraos and Dan Wood, the New York-based design firm's co-founders. Trees, Time, Architecture
Trees, Time, Architecture introduces living plant construction as an important tool to improve the climate in our cities. In the form of a magazine, the volume brings together a variety of views on the relationship between trees and architecture, urban spaces, modernism, politics, feminism, and cultural values. This collage of historical, research-based and creative perspectives looks at how living trees can be preserved, used, and appreciated in the Anthropocene by taking into account their temporal dimension. It highlights ancient examples of living plant architecture, such as the root bridges of the Khasi people in India, Nordic mythology with its representation of a tree as a cosmological symbol, and the architectural use of living trees in the Roman Empire.
The essays, photographs, memoirs, film reviews, and conversations in this book are supplemented with exemplary architectures, new research approaches, and current design methods. They illustrate dynamic processes in which trees play a key role as constantly changing organisms. They invite a transdisciplinary examination of relationships between people, trees, and architecture, as well as their rethinking and further development in our time of constant change and limited resources.
Koncept 10 - Fasáda
KONCEPT č. 10 sa venuje téme fasády. Architekti čoraz častejšie spájajú estetické riešenia so zodpovednosťou voči prírode a inovatívnymi materiálmi, čím vytvárajú fasády, ktoré nie sú len vizuálnym prvkom, ale aj nástrojom na komunikáciu ideí. Paláce a kostoly zdobili bohaté ornamenty, ktoré komunikovali moc alebo duchovnosť. Dnes sa však fasáda mení na médium, ktorým architektúra otvára dialóg s verejnosťou. Na stránkach Konceptu sa opäť venujeme aktuálnym projektom v oblasti Slovenska a Európy a uvedieme ich do širšieho spoločenského kontextu a rámca. Pozrieme sa na rôzne stavby od drobných, ale efektných riešení (HAUS) po rozsiahlejšie komplexy (Ilja Skoček, Juraj Hubinský + Kuklica a Smerek, Compass Architekti). Pozrieme sa aj na realizáciu využívajúcu vrstvenie hmôt ateliéru AMAA.
Moderní ruiny
Urbex, to je průzkum opuštěných a zchátralých objektů. Nejde o veřejně přístupná místa, ale naopak o objekty, do kterých se člověk běžně nepodívá. Napospas ničemu zanechané vily plné věcí a jídla dávno zemřelých obyvatel. Velké industriální kolosy, požírající samy sebe.
Zámky jako z pohádky Kráska a zvíře. Prázdné nemocniční chodby s oloupanou omítkou a čpící dezinfekcí. Mechem porostlé hotely, v nichž svůj řád obnovuje příroda. Prokleté domy, v nichž nechce nikdo žít. Minulost všech těchto budov je často stejně temná jako jejich budoucnost.
Na takováto tajemná místa se teď můžou podívat i čtenáři z bezpečí svého křesla. Stačí otevřít knihu, nechat z ní promlu vit fotografie a začíst se do příběhů tzv. moderních ruin – objektů, které se pomalu propadají do zapomnění.
Začínat od nuly
Průkopnice moderny Otti Berger, Anni Albers, Lilly Reich a Lucie Rie
Výpravná publikace představuje dílo tří významných designérek z Bauhausu – Anni Albers, Otti Berger a Lilly Reich – a rakousko britské keramičky Lucie Rie. Všechny tyto ženy, průkopnice moderny, se po nástupu nacismu potýkaly s výzvou znovu si v profesním světě vybudovat postavení. Díky své houževnatosti uspěly. Pouze kariéra Otti Berger, kterou v létě 1944 zavraždili nacisté v koncentračním táboře v Osvětimi, byla bohužel velmi krátká.
Publikace Začínat od nuly poprvé mapuje obtížné období, kterým musely tyto avantgardní umělkyně v dobách vzestupu nacismu v Evropě ve třicátých a čtyřicátých letech 20. století procházet. Přesto se nevzdaly. Znovu a znovu v osobním i profesním životě, ve světě, který se rozbil, začínaly od nuly. Jejich dílo, které je v publikaci bohatě dokumentováno, dnes bezpochyby patří k tomu nejvýraznějšímu a nejtrvalejšímu, co v oblasti moderního designu ve 20. století vzniklo.

Black Earth Rising presents works by artists of African diasporic, Latin American and Native American identity that address vital questions of land, presence, climate crisis, and social and environmental justice against the historical backdrop of European settlement of the New World. Supported by an exhibition at the Baltimore Museum of Art curated by the author, this timely publication invites us to trace and make the connections between race, the climate crisis and colonialism.
Works by 100 contemporary artists are presented in three thematic sections: Reckoning, Reimagining and Reclaiming. Complex and intertwined concepts are explored: forced migration and slavery, the environmental consequences of colonialism, the occupation of Native lands, the urban plight of Black and Brown communities, and how cultural practices and knowledge systems of indigenous peoples can change our perspectives of the natural world.
Compelling and thought-provoking, Black Earth Rising presents a discourse around climate change that situates the voices of people of colour at the active centre rather than on the passive periphery and expands our understanding of aesthetic perspectives on climate change through artworks that reach to the poetic and lyrical rather than the didactic.

Contingent Agencies is an artistic research project initiated by Alex Arteaga and Nikolaus Gansterer. It is dedicated to the dynamic relationship between human and nonhuman forces as conditions for the emergence of atmospheres. The cross-disciplinary investigation utilizes practices of notating, reflecting, showing, and sharing that are employed in different media and within different theoretical contexts such as phenomenology, enactivism, and new materialism. This book, which is supplemented by an extensive online archive, contains numerous research artifacts such as texts, drawings, photo series, diagrams, sound recordings, and video stills and is intended as an invitation to a wider community to participate in this investigation.

Prázdné domy - obytné a industriální
V již třetím díle knihy o prázdných, ale zajímavých domech se vydáme na další cestu za fascinujícími místy, která se mi podařilo navštívit a zdokumentovat. Tentokrát se zaměříme na obytné objekty, tedy vily, zámky a paláce, ale také na budovy, které dříve sloužily veřejnosti – od průmyslových staveb po kulturní centra. Příběhy těchto domů se neustále vyvíjejí, a zatímco některé z nich se stále nacházejí v dezolátním stavu, jiné už prošly rekonstrukcí a znovu ožily. Příkladem je zámek Nová Včelnice, který se prodával ve zcela zchátralé podobě – dokonce natolik, že se jeho správce propadl podlahou. V této knize naleznete unikátní fotografie zachycující proměnu těchto míst před a po rekonstrukci.
Kniha přináší zkrátka to nejlepší z databáze prázdných domů, doplněné o časové osy a bohatou fotodokumentaci.

What does Ukrainian Modernist architecture look like and why isn't it better-known in the west?
Photographer and architectural tour guide Dmytro Soloviov is fighting to preserve the disappearing modernist heritage of his native Ukraine.
These innovative buildings are an extraordinary blend of function, avant-garde aesthetics and ingenious design, but despite these qualities, they remain largely unrecognised. This is a result of several factors, including the stigma of belonging to the Soviet era, corruption, neglect, as well as the ongoing threat of destruction from both unscrupulous developers and war.
From masterpieces such as the Kyiv Crematorium and Salut Hotel, to previously undocumented examples like the Uzhhorod Airport Terminal and the Novoarkhanhelsk Police Station, Soloviov has traversed Ukraine photographing the exteriors and interiors of these important buildings and their monumental art (mosaics, stained glass and sculptures).
