Constellation is born to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Michael Kenna’s artistic career. The publication comprises a curated selection of geographical subjects, a collection of photographic gems drawn from the artist’s extensive oeuvre, which has taken him across the globe over the course of his career. The artist’s current body of work encompasses approximately 3,700 photographs, captured in 43 countries, and Constellation exhibits 122 of these, spanning the years from 1973 to 2024.

Autory textové části jsou Petr Vaňous a Pavel Dvořák, kteří se též podíleli na koncepci celé publikace. Součástí knihy je rozhovor Karla Halouna s Ondřejem Přibylem a místo doslovu text Kamila Nábělka. Název publikace odkazuje nejen k diagnóze, kdy postižený z různých příčin přichází o periferní vidění a je schopen se soustředit pouze na parciální jevy, ale především je metaforou, pomocí níž se autor snaží pojmenovat skutečnost, že naše vnímání je vždy omezeno na pouhý výsek v prostoru a čase, na skutečnost, že není možné nahlédnout svět cele a naráz. A právě fotografii s jejím automatickým zrodem, nevyhnutelnou kauzalitou a časovostí považuje Přibyl za mimořádně vhodný nástroj pro ilustraci těchto úvah. Kniha vychází česko-anglicky. How much do we need to know what we see in order to truly see it? How much do we need to imagine what we see, and how certain can we be of what we see and what we know? The visual part of the book Tunnel Vision consists of photographs, photograms, and daguerreotypes by Ondřej Přibyl and is divided into three chapters (Mechanical Viewer, Tunnel Vision, and Models and Constants), supplemented by quotations and the author's comments. The authors of the text section are Petr Vaňous and Pavel Dvořák, who also contributed to the concept of the entire publication. The book includes an interview with Ondřej Přibyl by Karel Haloun, and instead of an afterword, there is a text by Kamil Nábělek. The title of the publication refers not only to the diagnosis, when the affected person loses peripheral vision for various reasons and is only able to focus on partial phenomena, but above all it is a metaphor through which the author attempts to name the fact that our perception is always limited to a mere slice of space and time, to the fact that it is not possible to see the world as a whole and all at once. And it is precisely photography, with its automatic birth, inevitable causality, and temporality, that Přibyl considers an extremely suitable tool for illustrating these reflections.

Man’s Best Friend The world’s most beloved pet photographer turns his lens on our canine companions The world appears to be divided into cat and dog lovers, but fortunately Walter Chandoha, the 20th century’s greatest pet photographer found himself happily in the middle. He loved these intriguing creatures equally for their unique beauty and individualism, and as subjects to photograph in a career spanning over 70 years. While working on his critically acclaimed TASCHEN book Cats, Chandoha handpicked his favorite dog photos for a potential follow-up title, putting into carefully marked boxes hundreds of contact sheets, prints, and color transparencies. Chandoha sadly passed away in 2019 at the age of 98, but his legacy lives on in this dashing sequel dedicated to man’s best friend. “Walter Chandoha’s photographs of dogs are compelling not just because dogs have an inherent charm, but because the person behind the camera was a master of his craft,” writes the photography critic Jean Dykstra in the book’s introduction.
