Kniha geopolitického analytika a bývalého zpravodajce Jacquesa Bauda přináší podrobnou strategickou a vojensko-politickou analýzu války na Ukrajině se zvláštním důrazem na rok 2023, kdy se po neúspěšné letní protiofenzívě podle autora konflikt pro Ukrajinu fakticky uzavřel jako strategická porážka. Baud neusiluje o morální hodnocení stran, ale o vysvětlení jejich jednání, cílů a omezení. Sleduje vývoj konfliktu od roku 2014, rozebírá roli Ukrajiny v americké strategii oslabování Ruska i selhání diplomatických řešení. Tvrdí, že ruská operace byla od počátku zaměřena především na Donbas, nikoli na dobytí Kyjeva, a že západní média i političtí experti opakovaně chybně interpretovali klíčové vojenské kroky. Ústřední tezí knihy je, že Západ konflikt systematicky dezinterpretuje, protože promítá vlastní způsob uvažování do ruské strategie a podceňuje její operační logiku. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována informační válce, propagandě a pojmu „těžiště“, na němž autor ukazuje rozdíly mezi ruským a ukrajinským (resp. západním) pojetím vedení války. Dochází k závěru, že právě iluze, sankční politika a eskalační přístup Západu přispěly k tomu, že Ukrajina nese hlavní tíhu strategického neúspěchu.

No one understood this more clearly than George Minden, the head of a covert intelligence operation known as the 'CIA books programme', which aimed to win the Cold War with literature.
From its Manhattan headquarters, Minden's global CIA 'book club' would infiltrate millions of banned titles into the Eastern Bloc, written by a vast and eclectic list of authors, including Hannah Arendt and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, George Orwell and Agatha Christie. Volumes were smuggled on trucks and aboard yachts, dropped from balloons, and hidden in the luggage of hundreds of thousands of individual travellers. Once inside Soviet bloc, each book would circulate secretly among dozens of like-minded readers, quietly turning them into dissidents. Latterly, underground print shops began to reproduce the books, too. By the late 1980s, illicit literature in Poland was so pervasive that the system of communist censorship broke down, and the Iron Curtain soon followed.

Táto kniha je vzácnym, v našich podmienkach ojedinelým vedeckým počinom. Začal som zo zvedavosti a postupne som nadobúdal presvedčenie, že môže byť veľmi užitočná nielen pre kresťanov, ale mnohých ľudí súčasnej doby. Viac ako tridsať rokov počúvam v spovednici i mimo nej, ako sa ľudia boria s psychickými problémami, ktoré je ťažké pochopiť a ešte ťažšie riešiť. Kniha nás celkom prístupnou formou a príkladmi oboznamuje s problémom. A nielen to, ale ukazuje aj cestu východiska. Autor preskúmal životy viacerých veľkých náboženských osobností z minulosti, ktorí zápasili s obsesiou, úzkosťami, škrupuľami. Na príklade troch osobností Martina Luthera, Johna Bunyana a svätej Terézie z Lisieux ukázal, ako zvládli obsesívne boje vďaka viere (hoci viera každého mala odlišnú povahu). Spoločným menovateľom ich viery je však dôvera v Boha. Pripomeniem, že následkom prvotného hriechu človeka je predovšetkým strata dôvery v Boha ako Otca. S týmto zápasíme stále a z tohto pramení aj mnoho strachu, úzkostí a chorôb. Neprichádzame k Bohu z bodu A, teda že sme stvorení na jeho obraz a podobu, že sme darom a obdarovaní, milovaní, chcení, ale prichádzame z bodu B, že sme hriešni, špinaví, nehodní lásky a dôvery, preto sa sami usilujeme zarobiť na lásku, na nebo, zaslúžiť si ho. To je náš problém. P. Michal Zamkovský CSsR, misionár milosrdenstva IAN OSBORN, MD, je psychiater, ktorý vykonáva odbornú prax v Novom Mexiku v Behavioral Health Institute a prednáša psychiatriu na Štátnej pensylvánskej univerzite a Univerzite v Novom Mexiku. V istej fáze svojho života mal sám problémy s OCD, a dokázal ich prekonať. V súčasnosti prednáša o tomto ochorení a patrí v tejto oblasti k uznávaným odborníkom. Od textu ke knize a knižní kultuře
Výbor mapuje cestu od literární vědy druhé poloviny 20. století přes bibliografii až k vědě o knižní kultuře, dnes studované dle možností a potřeb nového tisíciletí. Statě psané pro odborná periodika doplňují dva osobní apely ke studiu knižní kultury a tři tematicky odlišné rozhovory s Janem Linkou, Lucií Storchovou a Jiřím Trávníčkem. Dramaturgie přibližuje nejen širšímu publiku, ale i kolegům z humanitních věd aspoň část potenciálu, který nový obor o knižní kultuře skýtá. Poté, co v ediční řadě Knižní kultura vyšla roku 2021 antologie zahraničních textů nazvaná Co jsou dějiny knihy?, může uceleně koncipovaný výbor naznačit specifika domácího bádání a přiblížit shody a rozdíly mezi cizí a tuzemskou vědou o knize.
Když se řekne komunitní práce
Komunitní práce je úzce spojena se sociální prací, která má v českém prostředí bohatou historii. Soudobá sociální práce na lokální úrovni – v komunitách – prošla v poslední dekádě rozšířením modelů komunitní práce i praktických přístupů a postupů, které jsou vhodné pro řešení místních problémů. Publikace tak reaguje na potřeby sociálních pracovníků, kteří často komunitní práci nevykonávají jako svoji hlavní specializaci, avšak využívají prvků komunitní práce pro efektivní působení v různých organizacích a institucích.

Publikace zdůrazňuje těsné spojení komunitní práce s oblastí komunitního rozvoje, které zásadním způsobem přispívá ke kvalitě života v lokalitách: komunitní vzdělávání, komunitní plánování a podpora zapojování lidí do veřejného života, vytváření sociálního kapitálu komunit. Publikace je doplněna o kapitolu zabývající se specifiky komunitně orientovaného výzkumu, jenž kromě souboru uznávaných kvalitativních a kvantitativních technik umožňuje využití i dalších postupů.
V závěru jsou kladeny otázky spojené s trendy a směry komunitní práce současné společnosti a jsou zvažovány možnosti, které posilují kvalitu života v lokalitách.

Kolektivní monografie je výsledkem výzkumné práce autorského týmu katedry sociální práce Filozofické fakulty UK. Reaguje na všeobecné přesvědčení, že kvalitu života seniorů pozitivně ovlivňuje aktivita ve stáří. Zkoumá, zda a jak současná sociální politika vlády, občanská společnost a aktuální systémy sociálních služeb aktivity a samostatnost stárnoucí populace skutečně podporují. Working For Each Other
The way we work is radically changing, due to advancements in technology, shifting work norms, changes to the landscape of labour policy, and unprecedented global events, like the Covid-19 pandemic. As the changes have played out with increasing speed and intensity, in public and in private spheres, many have questioned whether work is something we need to do at all. After all, much work has become bad. Many forms of it are physically dangerous, psychologically harmful, dehumanizing, unfulfilling, or just plain bullshit. Much of it is underpaid and unfairly compensated. Many toil for much of their lives in jobs they dislike with little or nothing to show for it. The anti-work view argues – persuasively so – that humanity would be better off in a world without work. But while some forms of work can be very bad, there is much evidence to suggest that it can also be very good – perhaps even an essential component of people’s happiness and well-being. A person’s work can be the thing that gets them out of bed in the morning, fills them with a sense of purpose, and provides them with a social community, all while meeting their material and financial needs. Above all, work is a social activity: one that we do together with others, in response to their needs and our own, in the context of the institutions and structures that give shape to our social world. Working For Each Other challenges the anti-work narrative by proposing an alternative view: that work is not an individual necessity, but a social one.
