Baroque 1600 - 1780
The baroque period spanned the whole of Europe from 1600 to 1780. Beginning with Italian artists who brought drama to painting through dynamic compositions and pronounced contrasts between light and dark, the baroque was later exported by countless artists to their own countries, where the new style developed in different ways. With its monumental historical paintings and magnificent portraits, catering to sovereign desires for splendor and demonstrations of both secular and religious power, the baroque rose to become the style of European court art. Bosch

Hľadanie identity: Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan (1898 1944) je predstaviteľom slovenského netradičného žánrového maliarstva medzivojnového obdobia. Jeho tvorba sa formovala na základe expresionistickej maľby a motivicky vychádzala predovšetkým zo slovenskej reality Oravy, Liptova a Turca. Jeho život sprevádzal neustály vnútorný nepokoj, ktorý sa prejavil v neprestajnom hľadaní vlastnej identity. Do jeho života výrazne zasiahli historické udalosti prvej polovice 20. storočia, ktoré do veľkej miery spečatili aj jeho osud.

Hudba absolutna
Významný malíř české moderny 20.století. Jeho tvorba reflektuje nejen tradice českého malířství, ale i důležité proudy světového výtvarného umění, vždy jim však dodává vlastní nezaměnitelný obsah i formu. Přes značnou rozmanitost stylů se jedná o dílo mimořádné kontinuity, což je však možné doložit pouze obsáhlou a systematickou prezentací i důkladnou analýzou díla, s ohledem na jeho vnitřní logiku. Vzhledem k těmto skutečnostem by bylo vhodné, kdyby bylo možno zkoordinovat vydání publikace s již zminěnou prezentací - nejlépe formou retrospektivní výstavy, představující všechna období umělcovy tvorby a zohledňující jejich vývojové souvislosti. Bělocvětov byl členem skupiny Máj a znal se s většinou významných malířů poválečné generace (Medek, Fremund, Piesen, Veržakovskij, Vysušil, Wichterlová....), ale také s mnoha hudebníky a hudebními teoretiky. Zcela zvláštní roli v jeho životě i tvorbě hraje významný fotograf Josef Sudek, který byl jeho celoživotním přítelem, obdivovatelem i mecenášem, měl rozsáhlou sbírku jeho obrazů.(tomuto vztahu by bylo vhodné věnovat zvláštní kapitolu, doplněnou obrazovým materiálem).

Oldřich Hamera
Oldřich Hamera (1944) je bez vší pochyby jedním z nejoriginálnějších umělců, spojujících ve své osobě hned několik talentů. Vedle výtvarného, je nezpochybnitelně i literární, pedagogický a rétorický. Přesto zůstal ve stínu. Za komunismu nedobrovolně a posléze z vlastního rozhodnutí, nechtěje se podílet na komercionalizaci kulturního provozu. Kniha přináší vůbec poprvé přehled vývoje Hamerova grafického díla od šedesátých let do současnosti. Přestavuje nejen netradiční techniky objevené v polovině padesátých let jeho učitelem a našim předním grafikem Vladimírem Boudníkem, jež Hamera upravuje a dodnes rozvíjí, ale i vlastní monotypické postupy a poodhaluje tajemství své tvorby. Hamerovo dílo je ukázkou stírání hranic mezi uměleckou tvorbou a jednotlivými vědními obory, kterým se umělec po celý život s vášní věnuje mineralogie, paleontologie a geologie. V textové části knihy Hamera vypráví o svém přátelství s Vladimírem Boudníkem, Bohumilem Hrabalem, se kterým prožil více než třicet let, i o setkáních s dalšími osobnostmi kulturního života. Kniha se věnuje také Hamerově neoficiální vydavatelské činnosti sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let.

Fiala se k sochařské práci dostal ve svých sedmatřiceti letech a jaksi skokem. O tom, že socha dokáže změnit život je několik textů, které knihu provázejí. Dnes patří Václav Fiala k nepřehlédnutelným osobnostem současné domácí sochařské scény. Patří k nejvšestrannějším tvůrcům své doby s výrazným monumentálním cítěním a schopností pro silné kontextuální působení soch v konkrétním prostředí. Dopracoval k osobitému výrazu, který jej charakterizuje a jasně vymezuje. Jeho dílo se v čase proměňuje, protože rád experimentuje. Má dokonalý cit pro materiál a občas, pro sochaře netradičně, zapojuje do konečného výrazu, s razancí a přímočarostí, i barvu.
Ve jménu moudrosti
Barokní knihovny patří k nejkrásnějším a také nejzajímavějším interiérům, které se z období baroka zachovaly. Jejich umělecká výzdoba vyniká především nástěnnými malbami, jejichž ikonografie je mnohdy zcela jedinečná. Náměty fresek obvykle navrhovali představení klášterů či vzdělaní členové klášterní komunity a jejich tematika byla vždy spojena s oslavou Boží moudrosti. Tento základní námětový okruh byl různě variován a v mnoha případech zahrnoval unikátní motivy, jejichž interpretace je dnes velmi obtížná. Porozumět těmto výjimečným malbám umožňuje studium dobové ikonologie a kulturního kontextu, v němž tyto malby vznikaly. Kniha je první monografií věnovanou umělecké výzdobě barokních klášterních knihoven v 18. století na Moravě. Je zaměřena zejména na rekonstrukci ikonografických programů nástěnných maleb v knihovnách, ale zabývá se také formálně-stylovou stránkou fresek a jejich autorstvím. Všímá si i další umělecké výzdoby knihovních sálů, zejména sochařské, a je-li to možné, zapojuje výzdobu knihoven do ikonologické koncepce daných objektů.

The authors
Frank Zöllnerwrote his doctoral thesis on motifs originating from Antiquity in the history of art and architecture of the Medieval and Renaissance periods (1987). He is also the author of a postdoctoral treatise on motion and expression in the art of Leonardo da Vinci, published in 2010. He has published numerous works on Renaissance art and art theory, and on 20th-century art. Since 1996 he has been Professor of Medieval and Modern Art at the University of Leipzig. For TASCHEN he has authored the XL monographs on Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
Johannes Nathanstudied art history at New York University and the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1995 with a dissertation on the working methods of Leonardo da Vinci. He is the author of numerous art publications, director of Nathan Fine Art (Berlin and Zürich) and teaches art history at the Technische Universität, Berlin.
