Obrazy Jaroslav Valečky jsou často inspirovány různými příběhy, které se vztahují ke krajině malířova dětství stráveného v českém pohraničí, zle zasaženého odsunem a sovětskou okupací. Většina obrazů je postavena na konkrétním příběhu, který je výtvarně zpracován. Některé příběhy jsou strašidelné, třeba když jako kluci na místním zcela zdevastovaném německém hřbitově marně hledali zlaté zuby a toužili ukrutně zbohatnout. Jiné jsou poetické, například když se nad Máchovým jezerem nečekaně objevila velmi silná polární záře, která ovšem nebyla přírodním jevem, ale hořícím palivem vypuštěným z vážně poškozené sovětské stíhačky přistávajícím na nedalekém letišti.
Jean-Michel Basquiat: Engadin
An exploration of Jean-Michel Basquiat's connection with Switzerland and the Engadin region, and its influence on his trailblazing work.
Though most often associated with New York, Jean-Michel Basquiat had a strong connection to Switzerland, which began in 1982 with his first exhibition at Galerie Bruno Bischofberger in Zurich. Throughout the 1980s, he returned several times, travelling to St. Moritz and the Engadin region.
This new book examines the artist's relationship with the country and is published on the occasion of the exhibition 'Basquiat Engadin' at Hauser & Wirth St. Moritz. It was in Switzerland that Basquiat, Andy Warhol, and Francesco Clemente began to work on their collaborations, marking a significant turning point in Basquiat's artistic practice.
Featuring an essay by curator Dr. Dieter Buchhart, this publication documents a unique body of work that captures the artist's impressions of the Swiss Alpine landscape and culture through the lens of his iconic visual language.

New TikTok trend: What would you advise your younger self? Jak vypadá dívka? Jak má vypadat žena? A jak se to pozná? Vizuální umělkyně Magdaléna Kašparová pracuje se zápisky ze svého dospívání podobně jako s obrazovými kolážemi. Primárně nejde o psaní, ale o shromáždění stop určité fáze života. Deníkové záznamy, „dopísky“ nebo esemesky vylovené z paměti starého mobilu nás od pubertální zkratkovitosti, naivity či kýčovitosti vedou k prožité bolesti. Hlavním tématem je anorexie. Magdaléna Kašparová (nar. 1993) je multimediální umělkyně, absolventka Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze. Ve své tvorbě se obrací k osobní paměti, s níž pracuje prostřednictvím (kompulzivně shromažďovaných) dobových artefaktů, popkulturních trendů, ale také dobově příznačných komunikačních kanálů (SMS, MMS, facebook, snapchat). Využívá přitom prostředků remediace a mediální archeologie. V autorských videích jako My 00’s Diary (2020) nebo Storytime (2021) přejímá konvence vlogu; projekt Osobní archeologie prezentovala formou site-specific instalace i webové stránky. V připravované knize Hlavně se těším na sny se prostřednictvím textových záznamů a obrazových koláží vrací ke své zkušenosti s poruchou příjmu potravy, kvůli níž byla hospitalizována v nemocnici v Motole.
László Lakner
Obrazová publikace uceleně zpracovává, prezentuje a kontextualizuje malířskou tvorbu László Laknera jako jedné ze zásadních osobností středoevropského umění posledních padesáti let, přičemž navazuje na výstavu László Lakner. Infinitum konanou v Muzeu umění Olomouc v roce 2024.
Paralelně s tím nabízí možnost nahlédnout vlastní problematiku piktoriálního realismu a figurativní malby uvedeného období až po současnost.
Kniha je součástí nově vznikající edice, odborně garantované Muzeem umění Olomouc-Středoevropským fórem, která má za cíl výjimečné autory lokálního původu přirozeně spojovat s těmi nadregionálními, respektive je chápat jako součást obecného světa umění. Jaroslav J. Králík
Ač malíř a grafik Jaroslav Králík (1924–1999) vládl osobitým a inovativním stylem, přesto jeho dílo doposud zůstává širší veřejnosti spíše neznámé. Symbolickou splátkou toho dluhu je výpravná publikace, kterou připravil umělcův syn a která je důstojným potvrzením pevného Králíkova postavení v rámci umění druhé poloviny 20. století. K jeho spolužákům z ateliéru Emila Filly patřili například Čestmír Kafka a sestry Válovy, přátelské vztahy později navázal s Františkem Tichým či Kamilem Lhotákem. Oblast jeho tvůrčího zájmu byla široká, od monumentálních realizací do architektury a veřejného prostoru (gobelíny, art protis, vitráže) až po intimní kresby, grafiky či koláže, v nichž zejména rozvíjel citace obrazů starých mistrů, nejčastěji Hieronyma Bosche, Matthiase Grünewalda, Pietera Bruegela, Albrechta Dürera, Piera della Francesco či Sandra Botticelliho, fascinovala jej též estetika rukopisného písma nebo tištěného textu. Králíkova originální výtvarná řeč s ozvuky metafyzické malby, surrealismu a symbolismu otevírá široký prostor pro hlubší kosmologické otázky i úvahy o okolním světě a roli člověka v něm.

Jan Vermeer
Jan Vermeer was a Dutch artist who created paintings that are among the most beloved and revered images in the history of art.
Vermeer began his career in the early 1650s by painting large-scale biblical and mythological scenes, but most of his later paintings—the ones for which he is most famous—depict scenes of daily life in interior settings. These works are remarkable for their purity of light and form, qualities that convey a serene, timeless sense of dignity. Vermeer also painted cityscapes and allegorical scenes.
James Tissot
Jacques Joseph or James Tissot, lived a splendid life between Paris and London during the Belle Epoque. He cannot be assigned to either the English or the French tradition. The first name James - which he adopted in 1859 - and his years in London (1871-1882) made him an artist between both worlds. The difficulty of categorizing Tissot is also reflected in his work. A continuity between his glamorous social portraits and the biblical illustrations - between the dandy and the businessman, the "ingenious merchant", as the painter John Singer Sargent called him - is difficult to establish.
Gustave Courbet
Best known as an innovator in Realism, Courbet was a painter of figurative compositions, landscapes and seascapes. He also worked with social issues, and addressed peasantry and the grave working conditions of the poor. His work belonged neither to the predominant Romantic nor Neoclassical schools. Courbet believed the Realist artist's mission was the pursuit of truth.
Arcimboldo
Amusement, astonishment, irritation, even indignation: the composite heads of Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526/7-1593) may prompt a whole range of emotions, but no one can remain indifferent to them. Combining the impact of surprise with the aesthetics of the bizarre, his art - reflecting the religious and political upheavals that shook Europe in the second half of the sixteenth century - invites ambivalent responses. For Arcimboldo, aesthetics took precedence over reality, and invenzione was more important than being true to life. A master in the art of sensory deception and an artist of virtuoso technical and conceptual skills, he created an oeuvre whose fascination is as much visual as intellectual.
Ingres
Despite an admiration for his mentors that never wavered, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867) forged his own unique style, a combination of virtuoso realism and strange distortions that was to make him one of the greatest painters of his century. Both highly praised and heavily criticized, this pupil of David and lover of the italian Renaissance, classical art and ideal beauty, was hugely admired as the saviour of traditional painting from the vagaries of the Romantics. But his work's fascination lay in his portraits and odalisques rather than his history paintings, and it is these that inspired some of the most avant-garde artists of t twentieth century.
Hokusai's Method
An omnibus edition collecting 15 volumes of Hokusai’s dedicated drawing manuals, ‘e-tehon’. Of the 300 or so printed books Hokusai created in his lifetime, a huge proportion of these were dedicated drawing manuals, known as e-tehon (drawing models). They show not only Hokusai’s great proficiency as a draughtsman, but also his wealth of ideas, and his sense of humour.
This omnibus edition collects 15 volumes of Hokusai's e-tehon, which feature over 800 illustrations of instructions from 1812 to 1848. With every page faithfully reproduced against the original works, the book shows Hokusai's playful approach to drawing with amusing songs, pictures comprised of letterforms (a forerunner to today’s emoji), modern designs for craftsmen, and, yes, dance moves. This all-encompassing endeavour also includes a valuable work that he published just before his death.

Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Drawings

The distinguished art historian Christopher Lloyd examines the drawings of twenty of the leading Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists, highlighting an aspect of French avant-garde art that remains relatively unexplored and was of immense importance for the art movements that followed.
Camille Corot
Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot was one of the greatest painters of human representations. His work is known all over the world, but has so far remained rather hidden from the general public. Above all, he is regarded as the most important modern landscape painter in France. Born at the time of the emerging classicism, he experienced the development of the great styles in lath century painting - but never felt a part of only one. The art critics at the beginning of the loth century nevertheless described him as the „pioneer of Impressionism". The artist cared little about such discussions. He loved to travel. He was constantly searching for the optimal light and new impressions, which he took with him into his studio to paint.
