The Glass Ark
Tracing Murano glass art through the glass animal collection of Pierre Rosenberg, former Director of the Louvre
This publication traces the history of 20th-century Murano glass art through the motif of the glass animal. Taken from the collection of Pierre Rosenberg, art historian and former Director of the Louvre, over 750 glass animals are presented here. Some of the more famous series included are the pulegosi (bubble glass) pieces by Napoleone Martinuzzi, the birds by Tyra Lundgren and Toni Zuccheri, the Zebrati (zebra-striped) series by Barovier & Toso, and the aquariums by Alfredo Barbini.
The volume also features a vast sampling of animals made by lesser-known but equally interesting glassworks, focusing on the aspect of technical and design experimentation in 20th-century Murano glass production. The catalog also showcases sculptures by living artists such as Cristiano Bianchin, Isabelle Poilprez, Maria Grazia Rosin and Giorgio Vigna, which demonstrate the inexhaustible source of inspiration offered by the form of the glass animal.

Swiss artist HR Giger (1940-2014) is most famous for his creation of the space monster in Ridley Scott's 1979 horror sci-fi film Alien, which earned him an Oscar. Yet this was just one of the most popular expressions of Giger's biomechanical arsenal of creatures, which consistently merged hybrids of human and machine into images of haunting power and dark psychedelia. The visions drew on demons of the past, as well as evoking mythologies for the future. Above all, they gave expression to the collective fears and fantasies of his age: fear of the atom, of pollution and wasted resources, and of a future in which our bodies depend on machines for survival.
Following the SUMO-sized monograph which was begun shortly before the artist's unexpected death, this affordable anniversay edition pays homage to Giger's unique vision. The book shows the complete story of Giger's life and art, his sculptures, film design, and iconic album covers as well as the heritage he left us in his own artist's museum and self-designed bar in the Swiss Alps. Maria Bartuszová - monografia
Prvá monografia sochárky Marie Bartuszovej predstavuje dielo našej najvýznamnejšej umelkyne, ktoré je objavené a zhodnotené v medzinárodnom kontexte. Očakávanou je aj pripravovaná výstava autorky v Tate Modern v Londýne v roku 2022.
Maria Bartuszová (1936 – 1996) sa narodila v Prahe vo vtedajšom Československu, študovala v ateliéri keramiky a porcelánu na VŠUP, ale väčšinu svojho života prežila v Košiciach. Monografia v štyroch chronologicky členených kapitolách prináša komplexný prehľad jej sochárskej tvorby, autorských techník a metód, tém a myšlienok, ktoré boli dlhý čas neznáme. Súčasťou knihy sú aj eseje významných zahraničných autorov.
Zvláštnosťou prístupu Marie Bartuszovej je koncentrácia na intímne prežívanie umenia, ktoré vníma kreativitu prírody a je napojené na princípy fungovania univerza. Poznatky z prírodných vied, kombinované s holistickým prístupom, ale aj schopnosť intuitívneho vedenia či hry ako tvorivej imaginatívnej činnosti, používala ako konceptuálnu metódu pri experimentovaní s materiálmi a remeselnými možnosťami sochárstva. Jej morfologické myslenie hľadalo tvarovú dokonalosť a haptickú príťažlivosť, ktorá nabáda človeka na dotyk – na vnútorné priblíženie a intímne prežívanie, vychádzajúce z telesného a duševného zážitku. Vyžaruje z neho fascinácia životom, ale aj pokora k nemu, obe sú hnacou silou jej tvorenia.

Ve druhém svazku monografie pokračuje autor v mapování skladatelova života a tvorby od roku 1914 do roku 1928, kdy Leoš Janáček umírá.
John Tyrrell se detailně věnuje skladatelovu vrcholnému tvůrčímu období. Akademický sochař a restaurátor Jan Bradna (*1943) má za sebou půl století tvůrčí práce, která pomohla navrátit zašlou krásu velké řadě památek na našem území včetně těch úplně zničených.
