A photographic exploration of the Soviet monotowns (urban settlements erected around single industries in the hinterlands of the former USSR) - some thriving, others struggling to survive, still others partially abandoned. Through 9 chapters with over 130 photographs taken by Russian photographer Alexander Veryovkin, Monotowns captures the post-industrial landscapes and Soviet era architecture of the monogorods, extending from the Arctic Circle to the Russian Far East, such as Vorkuta, Norilsk, Mirny, Kirovsk, Tolyatti, Cherepovets, Magnitogorsk, Monchegorsk and Nikel, and the daily lives of their inhabitants. Includes informative texts providing a valuable insight into the urban development of the featured cities and a foreword by the architectural historian Konstantin Budarin.
Soviet Playgrounds
A photographic survey of Soviet-era playgrounds found in former members of the USSR, such as Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Through five chapters containing more than 150 photographs, the book documents the mass-produced, yet diverse play equipment installed in the communal spaces of socialist-era housing estates, such as rocket slides and earth-shaped climbers, spaceships and animal-themed ladders, cosmic roundabouts and bizarre objects that would probably raise safety concerns nowadays.
From Riga to Dushanbe and all the way from Kyiv to Vladivostok, children dreamt of becoming cosmonauts, and enjoyed the many space-themed playscapes which had proliferated since the onset of the Cold War era. While some are still in use, others are slowly disappearing to make way for modern equipment, or, more recently, being destroyed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, becoming only a faint memory of a Soviet childhood.
Includes a foreword by the Ukrainian urban planner Mykola Gorokhov and informative maps of the playgrounds featured in every chapter. Pictures were taken by Zupagrafika, with contributions by local photographers.

Velká říjnová revoluce, to nebyl jen razantní přelom v ruské politice. V očích revolucionářů se utvářela celá nová společnost, nový svět a nový člověk. Jedním z projevů této nové epochy lidských dějin mělo být i umění: to staré, buržoazní a tradiční bylo zavrženo ve jménu umění moderního a progresivního. V čele Sovětského svazu proto vedle bolševiků stanuli i avantgardní umělci. Dříve odmítaní tvůrci jako Kazimir Malevič, Marc Chagall, Vasilij Kandinskij nebo Vladimir Tatlin byli pověřeni úkolem provést socialistickou estetickou transformaci: reformovaly se pedagogické systémy, v zapadlých obcích se budovaly galerie, města zaplavilo avantgardní umění. Trvalo to však jen pár let, než tato umělecká svobodomyslnost začala být Sovětskému svazu, komunistickému politbyru a jeho regulím na obtíž. Triumf umění skončil lidskou tragédií. Avantgardisté jsou velkolepým příběhem několika umělců, kteří chtěli změnit svět, portrétem doby bolševické revoluce a teroru i strhujícím vyznáním modernímu umění.

Snít rozhlasem
Publikace představuje nový a originální pohled na média rozhlas a film: zkoumá, jak se ovlivňují a inspirují a jak to obohacuje umělecký účinek obou médií. Vychází ze zevrubných analýz rozhlasové tvorby filmových režisérů Woodyho Allena, Ingmara Bergmana a Federica Felliniho a zamýšlí se nad vztahem jejich rozhlasového a filmového díla. Druhou část práce tvoří komparace původních rozhlasových her Sorry, Wrong Number od Lucille Fletcher, Under Milk Wood od Dylana Thomase a Der gute Gott von Manhattan od Ingeborg Bachmann s jejich filmovými adaptacemi. Problematika je nahlížena především z pozice rozhlasového média – autorka v práci zúročuje zkušenosti z vlastní tvorby pro rozhlas i z pedagogického působení na Divadelní fakultě JAMU, v jehož rámci vede též studentské audio projekty. Navazuje na východiska rozhlasových teoretiků Josefa Branžovského, Paula Deharma, Lance Sievekinga a dalších, kteří zdůrazňovali schopnost zvukového média podněcovat fantazii posluchače. Odhaluje, v čem spočívá podstata a kouzlo zvukového umění, a dochází k závěru, že i v současném mediálním světě má rozhlasová hra své nezastupitelné místo.

Hra v polohách a tudíž i orientace na hmatníku kytary je samozřejmostí, se kterou se každý instrumentalista hrající na strunné nástroje musí co nejdříve seznámit. Ve vyšších polohách kytarového hmatníku se prsty levé ruky namáhají méně než v poloze I. - rozumějme zatím hru bez použití „barré"". Toto jest třeba využít a orientovat prstoklad do zdánlivě složitějších oblastí. Radostí je zjištění, že i kvalita tónu (menší použití prázdných strun, možnost vibráta) se mění v ušlechtilý projev. Před každou skladbičkou uvádím oněch několik tónů hraných v té které poloze. Prstoklad uvedený u jednotlivých not zůstává vždy stejný, a tak stačí usadit prsty do správné polohy a respektovat jej.
