A collection of 50 original posters celebrating the most compelling unmade films in the history of moviemaking
For most films, it's a long, strange road from concept to screen, and sometimes those roads lead to dead ends. In Underexposed!: The 50 Greatest Movies Never Made, 50 artists from around the globe each contribute imagined poster art for one such dead-end film-a movie that never made it into production or that changed drastically from initial concept to final film. Nike: ICONS
In 2016, sportswear manufacturer Nike and fashion designer Virgil Abloh joined forces to create a sneaker collection celebrating 10 of the Oregon-based company's most iconic shoes. With their project The Ten-which reimagines icons like Air Jordan 1, Air Max 90, Air Force 1, and Air Presto, among others-they reinvigorated sneaker culture.
Virgil Abloh's new designs offer deep insights into engineering ingenuity and burst with cultural cachet. Drawing on the genius of the original shoe using lettering, ironic labels, collage, and sculpting techniques, Abloh plays with language and sculptural elements to construct new meaning. Inspired by the wit of Dadaism, architectural theory, and avant-garde happenings, he analyzes what makes each shoe iconic and deconstructs it into an artistic assemblage, making each shoe into a piece of industrial design, a readymade sculpture, and a wearable all at once.Icons traces Abloh's investigative, creative process through documentation of the prototypes, original text messages from Abloh to Nike designers, and treasures from the Nike archives. We find Swooshes sliced away from Air Jordans and reapplied with tape or thread, Abloh's typical text fragments in quotation marks on Air Force 1, and All Stars cut into pieces. We take a look behind the scenes and witness Abloh's DIY approach, which gives each model in the Off-WhiteTM c/o Nike collection its own unique touch.
The book documents Abloh's cooperative way of working and reaffirms the power of print. For its design Nike and Abloh partnered with the acclaimed London-based design studio Zak Group. Together they conceived a two-part compendium, equal parts catalog and conceptual toolbox. The first part of the book presents a visual culture of sneakers while a lexicon in the second part defines the key people, places, objects, ideas, materials, and scenes from which the project grew. Texts by Nike's Nicholas Schonberger, writer Troy Patterson, curator and historian Glenn Adamson, and Virgil Abloh himself frame the collaborative work within fashion and design history. A foreword by Hiroshi Fujiwara places the project within the historical continuum of Nike collaborators.

Circus
In its heyday, the American circus was the largest showbiz industry the world had ever seen. From the mid-1800s to mid-1900s, traveling circuses performed for audiences of up to 14,000 per show, employed as many as 1,600 men and women, and crisscrossed the country on 20,000 miles of railroad in one season alone. Georg Baselitz
A prolific artist with a protean output, Georg Baselitz has rethought the conventions of a range of media, predominantly painting and sculpture, over the course of a career of some sixty years. Born in 1938, Baselitz was expelled from art school in East Berlin in 1956 for 'socio-political immaturity', and moved to the western half of the city. By the late 1950s, he had rejected the dominant tendencies of both sides of the country and his singular achievement was to reintroduce the figure, compromised and discredited though it was by both Nazism and Communism, into art. By drawing attention to art by 'outsiders', such as psychiatric patients, and invoking a Parisian model of existentialist art and literature, Baselitz proposed an alternative European tradition that did not eliminate the human subject.
In alluding later to movements in German painting such as Expressionism as well as to artists like Munch, he also consciously rehabilitated the kind of art that was condemned by Hitler as 'degenerate'. The book follows the development of Baselitz's unique style from his earliest work through to the most recent creations of his eighth decade. Calvocoressi's masterful construction of a chronological narrative helps us to evaluate Baselitz's work in terms of the disruptions of his life - historical upheavals witnessed alongside an astonishing career.

Originální monografie se detailně věnuje tématu, které se teprve v posledních letech dostává do hledáčku historiků umění a architektury dějinám kulturních domů. Éra jejich výstavby se počátkem devadesátých let 20. století víceméně uzavřela a význam i existence tohoto stavebního typu v podstatě přestaly být aktuální. Možná i díky tomu jim však můžeme lépe porozumět či z odstupu obdivovat jejich dosud opomíjené architektonické vlastnosti.
Významná architektonická i urbanistická role nebo ideologický obsah zajistily kulturním domům v rámci poválečné architektury výjimečné postavení. Přesto zájem o ně roste teprve poslední dobou. Postupně totiž mizí předpojatost vůči reliktům režimu a ony doslova lákají badatele, před nimiž stojí nelehký úkol zasadit toto téma do nepřehledného a vrstevnatého kontextu, který je komplikován neustálou proměnlivostí společenských i ekonomických požadavků doby. Právě proto monografie Lukáše Veverky sleduje vznik tohoto fenoménu již od počátku 20. století přes první republiku až po kapitoly o době poválečné, které jsou stěžejní. Nalezneme v nich nejen charakteristiku období se zaměřením na klíčové realizace, ale také zpracování společenské i legislativní situace, ve které domy vznikaly. Poznatky uvedené v této práci vycházejí z dobové literatury, archivních rešerší a autorovy znalosti většiny lokalit.

A kötet mögött hatalmas levéltári és egyéb forrásfeltáró munka áll. A levéltári iratanyag közelsége Fabó Beáta számára lehetővé tette eddig kevésbé vagy egyáltalán nem kutatott irategyüttesek szisztematikus átnézését. Munkájában kiemelten foglalkozik a születendő templomok tervezési hátterével, az épületek elhelyezésével, városképben elfoglalt szerepével, a tervező megválasztásával, a stílus és anyag választásának okaival, az elhúzódó döntések hátterével. A szerző egyik fő célja volt, hogy a nagyszámú terv-és képanyag egyesítve, egy helyen megtalálható legyen. A kitűzött célt sikerült elérni: a tartalmában és kivitelezésében is impozáns kötet átfogó képet ad a két világháború közötti katolikus templomépítészetről, alapmunkának fog számítani a korszak egyházi építészetének kutatásához.
Beatriz Milhazes
In her vibrant works, the Brazilian painter Beatriz Milhazes fuses two very different worldviews. Her abstract compositions, which can be seen in a line with modernist masters from Henri Matisse to Bridget Riley, are saturated with the colors and light of her native country. Her paintings are strewn with symbols of everyday life in Brazil, invoking carnival, traditional craftsmanship, and motifs from baroque to pop, all choreographed in an exuberant visual rhythm. The colorful atmosphere has an irresistible exotic allure, but as in the works of Paul Gauguin, we find a broken paradise in which darker, more melancholic tones resonate, both in the promises of tropical life and those of modernist abstraction.
In seeking this balance, Milhazes developed a special transfer technique in the late eighties, painting her motifs onto plastic sheets, gluing these to the canvas and letting them dry, and then peeling away the plastic once dry so that the paint remains on the canvas. This method allows the artist to layer surface upon surface and to achieve an iridescence somewhere between radiant aura and shimmering melancholy. Since her breakthrough in the early 1990s, Milhazes has extended the scope of her work to other media, producing screen prints, collages made of chocolate and candy wrappers, sculptures such as giant mobiles made of carnival decorations, site-specific projects that transform building facades into stained glass windows, and experiments with body and rhythm in collaboration with her sister Marcia's ballet ensemble.
This updated edition, which has been expanded to include works made as recently as 2020, explores all of the artist's creative phases, from her beginnings to the present, with over 300 of her works. The book was created in close collaboration with the artist, in both the selection of images and specially designed pages between chapters. It includes a conversation with editor Hans Werner Holzwarth in which the artist unravels her working methods and talks about the ideas and cultural background behind her work. An art historical essay by David Ebony, a poetic dictionary of Milhazes's key motifs by Adriano Pedrosa, and a detailed, updated artist biography by Luiza Interlenghi round off this comprehensive work.Also available in an Art Edition with a silkscreen print signed by Beatriz Milhazes
