‘This ad is gender neutral’, proclaimed a 2016 poster for the fashion brand Diesel; ‘I resist definitions’, announced a Calvin Klein ad in the same year, while a Louis Vuitton shoot featured Jaden Smith, son of actor Will Smith, wearing a skirt like a natural. Fashion magazines have printed countless features on the blurring of gender barriers, while brands including Yves Saint-Laurent, Gucci, Burberry, Givenchy and Dolce & Gabbana have all interpreted the concept ‘girls will be boys and boys will be girls’ in their own individual style. The previous turn of the century was as obsessed with androgyny as this one, as seen in the art of Edward Burne-Jones and Gustave Moreau, and the writings of Oscar Wilde and the mystic Joséphin Péladan. Krásný sloh a Jižní Tyroly
Vztah nástěnné a deskové malby Jižních Tyrol k malbě krásnoslohé, zvláště bohemikální, je téma v literatuře mnohokrát zmiňované, dosud však nepodrobené pečlivé analýze. Ne zcela vyjasněný zůstává i původ krásnoslohých motivů ve sledované oblasti. Kromě Prahy a odtud odcházejících umělců mohla iniciační úlohu sehrát i jiná středoevropská centra, zejména Salzburg, Vídeň či jižní Německo. Kniha je členěna do šesti hlavních kapitol. Po nastínění tématu se čtenář ve stručnosti seznamuje s politickými dějinami oblasti a jejich vztahem k zemím Koruny české. Další tři kapitoly jsou věnovány nástěnné malbě, rozdělené podle místních škol a dílen. První z nich představuje dílo mistra Václava, v pramenech označovaného mimo jiné jako „Watzlab Kunstl von Behm“, jenž s jistotou prošel školením v Čechách. Další kapitola je věnována tzv. bolzanské škole. Třetí část se zabývá nástěnnými malbami spojovanými s malíři z Brunecku (tzv. brixenská škola). Being Modern: MoMA in Paris

The Militant Muse documents what it meant to be young, ambitious and female in the context of an avant-garde movement defined by celebrated men whose educational, philosophical and literary backgrounds were often quite different from those of their younger lovers and companions. Focusing on the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, Whitney Chadwick charts five intense, far-reaching female friendships among the Surrealists to show how Surrealism, female friendship and the experiences of war, loss and trauma shaped individual women’s transitions from beloved muses to mature artists. Her vivid account includes the fascinating story of Claude Cahun and Suzanne Malherbe’s subversive activities in occupied Jersey, as well as the experiences of Lee Miller and Valentine Penrose at the frontline.
