První knižní vydání výběru z dosavadní tvorby Václava Podestáta, předního českého dokumentárního fotografa, absolventa katedry fotografie na FAMU v Praze a pedagoga Institutu tvůrčí fotografie Slezské univerzity v Opavě. Publikace „S andělem uprostřed davu“ představuje výběr z jeho děl z posledního čtvrtstoletí. Přestože mnohé snímky často ukazují osamělé jedince vydělující se z okolního hlučícího davu velkoměst a ponořující se do svého nitra, v obecné rovině odkazují k úvodnímu citátu knihy od Antoine de Saint-Exupéryho: „Člověk vnímá jen ten svět, který nosí v sobě.“ Podestátovi nejde o zeměpisný či sociologický dokument z konkrétního prostředí, ale všude vyhledává obdobné metaforické vyjádření vlastních pocitů a vizuálních zážitků. Spoléhá přitom hodně na diváka. Na jeho ochotu vciťovat se do nálady snímků, spolupracovat při dešifrování symbolických významů fotografií, všímat si drobných detailů, objevovat kontrasty i analogie různých motivů. Fotografie akcentují neotřelou obrazovou stránku, vzdálenou tradičním kompozičním schématům, hlavní význam bývá ukryt v podtextu otevřeném různým interpretacím. Novou dimenzi v posledních letech do Podestátovy tvorby vnáší promyšlené využití barvy, které se ještě více vzdaluje of tradičního dokumentu, autor zároveň usiluje i o vizuální hru s imaginací diváků. ‘This ad is gender neutral’, proclaimed a 2016 poster for the fashion brand Diesel; ‘I resist definitions’, announced a Calvin Klein ad in the same year, while a Louis Vuitton shoot featured Jaden Smith, son of actor Will Smith, wearing a skirt like a natural. Fashion magazines have printed countless features on the blurring of gender barriers, while brands including Yves Saint-Laurent, Gucci, Burberry, Givenchy and Dolce & Gabbana have all interpreted the concept ‘girls will be boys and boys will be girls’ in their own individual style. The previous turn of the century was as obsessed with androgyny as this one, as seen in the art of Edward Burne-Jones and Gustave Moreau, and the writings of Oscar Wilde and the mystic Joséphin Péladan. Krásný sloh a Jižní Tyroly
Vztah nástěnné a deskové malby Jižních Tyrol k malbě krásnoslohé, zvláště bohemikální, je téma v literatuře mnohokrát zmiňované, dosud však nepodrobené pečlivé analýze. Ne zcela vyjasněný zůstává i původ krásnoslohých motivů ve sledované oblasti. Kromě Prahy a odtud odcházejících umělců mohla iniciační úlohu sehrát i jiná středoevropská centra, zejména Salzburg, Vídeň či jižní Německo. Kniha je členěna do šesti hlavních kapitol. Po nastínění tématu se čtenář ve stručnosti seznamuje s politickými dějinami oblasti a jejich vztahem k zemím Koruny české. Další tři kapitoly jsou věnovány nástěnné malbě, rozdělené podle místních škol a dílen. První z nich představuje dílo mistra Václava, v pramenech označovaného mimo jiné jako „Watzlab Kunstl von Behm“, jenž s jistotou prošel školením v Čechách. Being Modern: MoMA in Paris
