Autoři se vyslovují v celkem 14 kapitolách ke specifikům fotografie formou teoretických esejů. Shromáždili 100 fotografií (černobílých s menším zastoupením barevných) více než 80 českých fotografů z hluboké fotografické minulosti až po současnost ke každé fotografii jeden rozbor, postřeh a charakteristika, vše ve věcné, zasvěcené, odborné a přesné rovině.
Kniha autorů Ludvíka a Alexandra Baranových Obraz jako dialog s časem nemá být a není praktickým návodem, jak zhotovit "mistrovské dílo", ale knihou, která má zájemci o fotografii ukázat mnohostranné možnosti zachycení skutečnosti a dát podněty k přemýšlení i srovnání s vlastní tvorbou.
V teoretické části autoři přijatelnou formou přibližují vztah fotografie a filozofie, uvádějí základní názory na specifiku fotografického díla. V jednotlivých kapitolách nám zprostředkovávají pohled na "obraz" od paleolitu přes první fotografii světa, klasiky české fotografie až po současné amatérské fotografy. Toto seznámení není pouze formou teoretických pojednání, ale formou charakteristik a rozborů sta fotografií. Jsou mezi nimi snímky například Rudolfa Němečka, Jana Anděla, Jiřího Havla, Miroslava Jodase, Ludmily Duškové, Miroslava Vojtěchovského, ale i Josefa Sudka, Václava Chocholy, Karla Ludwiga, Slávy Štochla a dalších devadesáti fotografů. Autorům se podařilo shromáždit základní názory na specifikum fotografického díla. Oprávněně poukazují na uměleckohistorické aspekty fotografického obrazu a fotografického umění. To je důležité zejména v současnosti, kdy jsme fotografickými obrazy doslova zaplaveni a mnohdy se dává přednost diskuzi o fotografické technice.
Skutečnost, že se v knize můžeme seznámit i s tvorbou současných fotografů a s názory autorů na jejich fotografie, nám umožňuje udělat si lepší představu o tom, jakým směrem se současná fotografie ubírá, a také obrázek o své fotografické tvorbě.

Fra Angelico and the Rise of the Florentine Renaissance
Fra Angelico and the Rise of the Florentine Renaissance investigates the beginnings of Florentine Renaissance art, with the friar painter Fra Angelico at the centre of the story. Fra Angelico is one of the great masters of Renaissance art and responsible for its early achievements in Florence alongside the painters Masaccio, Masolino, Uccello and Filippo Lippi, the sculptors Ghiberti, Donatello, and Nanni di Banco, and the architect Brunelleschi. Fra Angelico is sometimes seen as separate from his contemporaries, because of his status as a friar.
A reconsideration of the chronology of his key early works demonstrates that not only was he a full participant in the artistic culture of his times, but a key innovator: the Prado's great Annunciation Altarpiece, Fra Angelico's breakthrough work from the mid-1420s, is the first Renaissance-style altarpiece in Florence. The Altarpiece has been the subject of extensive conservation and technological research at the Prado, the results of which are presented for the first time here. This catalogue focuses around that masterpiece, as well as two other recently acquired Fra Angelico paintings: the Alba Madonna and the Funeral of Saint Anthony Abbot.
Living with Charlotte Perriand
Living with Charlotte Perriand presents a catalog of the great designer's work, object by object. Her chairs, tables and bookshelves in all their different iterations are seen here both up close and "at home," as installed in the living spaces of collectors. Photographs of both historical and contemporary settings show how Perriand's furniture stands the test of time and taste. Essays by François Laffanour and Cynthia Fleury provide a deeper insight into Perriand's work and retrace her life and collaboration with other great artists, designers and architects of her time, such as Le Corbusier and Jean Prouvé. Additionally, quotes from Perriand and the collectors who live with her designs are interpersed throughout the book.
Charlotte Perriand (1903-99) was a French architect and designer known for the playful mix of materials and styles in her furniture. In her article "L'Art de Vivre" (1981) she states, "The extension of the art of dwelling is the art of living--living in harmony with man's deepest drives and with his adopted or fabricated environment."
Visions of the Bauhaus Books
The 14 Bauhaus books, edited by Walter Gropius and László Moholy-Nagy, were published between 1925 and 1930. Their authors discussed design principles, practices, and artistic approaches from various perspectives. Johannes Rinkenburger has examined and researched the contents and key concepts of this avant-garde series of books along with their backgrounds and context and elaborates their application and importance for current design schools.
