Anjeli a svätí - Angels and Saints
Svätí – martýri, ktorí kedysi položili život za svoju vieru a presvedčenie, ale aj anjeli – dokonalí a všadeprítomní prostredníci medzi Bohom a človekom, boli zvyčajne stvárňovaní ako vznešené bytosti, trpiace (svätci) a bezpohlavné (anjeli). Sadovskej svätí a anjeli sú však napospol ľudia (v prípade anjelov len muži, i keď svoje mužstvo na obdiv nevystavujú). Sú nahí, nie vždy krásni a dokonalí, netrpia. Celkom všedne, gestom či posunkom, pohybom tela, len akoby mimochodom nám sprostredkovávajú svoju stigmu. Niektorí sa dokonca venujú vcelku pozemským činnostiam – diskutujú, ochutnávajú, počúvajú, načahujú sa, ukrývajú, žobrú... A keď sa im prizriete bližšie, možno zistíte, že viacerých dokonca poznáte.
Takže môžete začať tipovať kto je kto. Ako svätcov a anjelov Dorota zobrazila svoje priateľky a priateľov, známych i neznámych ľudí zo svojho okolia, ktorí jej boli ochotní pózovať – niekedy pravdepodobne aj bez toho, aby videli výsledné dielo. Tak teda ako je to? Poľudštila svet svätých a anjelov, alebo premenila ľudí na anjelov a svätých? Isteže, táto ideová ambivalentnosť sa opiera aj o iný – materiálny základ. Vyplýva totiž z jej pracovnej metódy, kde spája fotografiu s maľbou. Práve paradox prenosu obrazu videného cez fotoaparát do rýdzo maliarskych prostriedkov tvorí základ živého a dynamického napätia, ktoré sprevádza jej maľbu. Využíva takmer „staromajstrovské“ prostriedky – perspektívny nadhľad, vizuálnu deformáciu proporcií, farbu, svetlo, tieň, iluzívnosť, ako by sme povedali dnes, pokúša sa o trojrozmerný priestor na dvojrozmernej ploche. Znova sa posunula o krok ďalej a v najlepších prácach skoncentrovala výraz, odhodila „literárne“ barličky, prízračné bytosti sa vynárajú z neba ako sochy, ale občas na vás (možno) aj žmurknú, uhranú vás pohľadom, natiahnu k vám ruku, dotknú sa vás ako priateľky či priatelia. Bruce Davidson - Survey
Bruce Davidson is a pioneer of social documentary photography. He began taking photographs at the age of ten and continued to develop his passion at Rochester Institute of Technology and Yale University. Later called upon for military service, Davidson met Henri Cartier-Bresson in France and was introduced to Magnum Photos. In his work, Davidson prizes his relationship to the subject above all else. From his profound documentation of the civil rights movement to his in-depth study of one derelict block in Harlem, he has immersed himself fully in his projects, which have sometimes taken him several years to complete. He once wrote, I often find myself an outsider on the inside, discovering beauty and meaning in the most desperate of situations. This survey, created in conjunction with an exhibition at Fundación MAPFRE in Spain, focuses on the work that has made Davidson one of the most influential documentary photographers to this day. In addition to his civil rights series and his work in Harlem, the book includes Davidson?s well-known series Brooklyn Gang, Subway, and Central Park. The book also highlights more recent projects, such as his explorations of Paris and Los Angeles landscapes.
