New Surrealism
New Surrealism: The Uncanny in Contemporary Painting by Robert Zeller offers a sweeping exposition of both historical Surrealism and its legacy in the world of contemporary art. It demonstrates the many ways in which the most significant art movement of the last century continues to be relevant today, featuring an international selection of contemporary artists whose compositions and studio practice reveal its influence. There are many modalities of historical Surrealism that still maintain contemporary currency: presenting the familiar as unfamiliar and uncanny, the juxtaposition of seemingly unrelated imagery, the use of absurdity to critique political or social issues, and the use of erotic imagery in an irrational, non-linear context.
Not all the artists brought together in this book self-identify as Surrealist, per se, but each uses some variation of Surrealism in a personal manner. The book begins with a study of the origins, leadership, participating artists, and major milestones of historical Surrealism. Zeller chronicles the movement starting at the end of World War I and the birth of Dada.
The most important players and events emerge throughout the timeline of events-including World War II, and such notable artists as Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Leonora Carrington, and many others-up until the death of its leader Andre Breton in 1966. Zeller then explores how elements of New Surrealism are being put into practice in the contemporary art world. Section Two offers a survey of 29 contemporary artists who engage in New Surrealism's seemingly unlimited variations of the movement's original themes, including Rosa Loy, Glenn Brown, and Arghavan Khosravi.

Člověk člověku: Karel Koch a Dušan Jurkovič
Snahou publikace Člověk člověku je přiblížit čtenáři profesní a přátelské protnutí lékaře Karla Kocha (1890–1981) a architekta Dušana Jurkoviče (1868–1947), které vyústilo ve společnou realizaci Kochova sanatoria s unikátní zahradou v Bratislavě. Název knihy Člověk člověku odkazuje na ústřední motiv Kochova myšlení: nejvyšším posláním člověka je lidskost, která má být naplňována v bezpodmínečně lidském jednání a službě druhému člověku. Úsloví připomínají Goethova slova, na něž se Karel Koch ve svých textech opakovaně odvolává: „Sám považuji za možné, že lidskost konečně zvítězí, jen se obávám, že pak bude svět velikánským lazaretem, v němž bude člověk člověku lidským ošetřovatelem!“ Jinými slovy, než si lidstvo uvědomí smysl této nejvyšší hodnoty, napáchané škody mohou být nedozírné. V tento moment pak bude lidskost jediným lékem. Toho byli Karel Koch i Dušan Jurkovič svědky i aktivními aktéry během obou světových válek i doby poválečné. Toho jsme svědky také v současnosti. Tento projekt vznikl v rámci výzkumného projektu Průmysl a umění: Opomíjené regionální osobnosti podnikatelů coby hybatelů hospodářského pokroku Československa, jejich význam a spolupráce s umělci, architekty a designéry (reg. č. projektu DG20P02OVV011), financovaného z Programu na podporu aplikovaného výzkumu a experimentálního vývoje národní a kulturní identity na léta 2016–2022 (NAKI II) Ministerstva kultury České republiky.

Cult of kitsch. The art and history of the Tiki phenomenon. Tiki culture at its height was a manifestation of exotic visions of island culture inspired by the tales of American soldiers stationed in the South Pacific during World War II: trees loaded with exotic fruits, sleepy lagoons, white-sand beaches, and gorgeous people wearing grass skirts as they danced half-naked during all-night orgies of food and music. Americans embraced these visions and incorporated fantasy into reality: mid-century fashion, popular music, eating and drinking, and even architecture were influenced by the Tiki trend. With unfettered enthusiasm - ignoring scholarly authenticity and political correctness - American artisans molded the Tiki into their own image, creating a mid-century pop culture genre that was forgotten until the 2000s, when urban archaeologist Sven Kirsten wrested the figure of the Tiki from obscurity with his pioneering TASCHEN books The Book of Tiki and Tiki Modern. A mostani válogatás, a ,,Fent és lent" a legreprezentatívabb budapesti lépcsőházakat és előcsarnokokat mutatja be 1835-től 1945-ig - az egyszerű bérházakétól a pompás palotákéig. El-elhaladva egy-egy épület előtt sokszor nem is sejtjük, hogy már a kapun belépve milyen lenyűgöző látványban lehet részünk. Ezeknek a gyönyörű belső tereknek a világába nyújt bepillantást a kötet, ugyanabban a szubjektív hangnemben, mint a szerző előző kötetei. Texty a koláže z šedesátých let
Nejznámější písňové texty Jiřího Suchého ze zlaté éry Divadla Semafor doprovázejí naopak dosud málo známé tehdejší koláže grafika Vladimíra Suchánka, v té době čerstvého absolventa Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze.
